yes thats right we have a game tonight and its not at wembley, what are people going to do?  :K)

Anyway no official news yet but JT reckons Cook and Hannah up front, Naylor in for Miller, and Devitt on bench

edit: appears JT was wrong thankfully, Miller starts, so does Devitt and Naylor is on bench.

Yes for Cook and Hannah but Naylor will play in midfield in place of Niven.

I hope this is wrong. I really want Devitt to start, and what has Ian Miller done? This better work out if this speculation is correct as it looks a bit puzzling. JT also says that Wood will keep his place at LB instead of Thomas.

Desperately dissapointed that Naylor has waltzed into a side into a center back position that has been so brilliantly held by Miller. Another example of S&H struggling to cope with lots of good players imo.

Massive plus seeing Cookie & Hannah together again, Cook thrives with Hannah imo.

Alarmingly regular odd decisons in the team sheets lately, Wood in for Thomas. Yes, that is the right footed defender who has looked a liability far too often this season, in for prehaps the best left back in the league. Just when it looked a perfect team sheet.

You have to take them or leave them.

You have to appreciate with Scott and Hurst that one bad game and you're OUT. That's the case with anyone. He had a shocker at Braintree so he's lost his shirt - it's that simple. Okay, yeah, it's a bit frustrating but it's the way they work and their ruthlessness will get us promoted imo. It'd go against their whole philosophy to let certain individuals get their names on the teamsheet regardless of performance. It'd also have a detrimental impact on said player long term as well imo.

Aswad has has a fantastic season but it's his first year as a full time, first teamer. He'll be back in the side soon enough and will come back absolutely chomping at the bit to not lose that shirt again.

In the same respect i'd stick my house on Cooky and Hannah bagging tonight...

Thomas has looked knackered, he could also be carrying a knock that we don't know about.

But... YEEEEEESSS for Hannah and Cookie back together

Didn't the same happen with Hearn last season. Took around 10 games for him to score his first, then we all know what happened after that. Hopefully Cook can carry on his recent form for the rest of the season. Good to see Hannah having good influence on the game tonight after getting his starting place back. Goal for him would be good!  8)

I agree. However, we DO have it in us to win the play offs. And even if we don't, two Wembley appearances will have raised enough money to keep us going long enough to get out of this division sooner or later.

I'm afraid I think you're right unfortunately. They have several more games at home than away whilst we have several more away than home and with our relatively poor away form it doesn't bode well. However, I fancy US to do anyone over 2 legs so I'm thinking we could have another double Wembley year!  8)

Before tonight you wouldn't have expected any of the rivals to lose tonight, and more to win than draw. We just had false hopes with the way things were going for 70 or 80 minutes.

Important thing is we won and improved our GD, albeit slightly.

Now all focus on the Macc game Friday.

If you look at our rivals fixtures they could be tricky ties considering their opposition are fighting for their lives.

Wrexham vs Alfreton, Alfreton won 5-1 tonight and trying to make sure they don't get sucked into the relegation fight

Kiddy vs Ebbsfleet, Ebbsfleet gave us a good game and I'm sure they will end kiddys lovely run

Mansfield vs Telford, another team fighting for their status and won't be an easy fixture especially when they seem to raise their game against the better teams

Hyde vs Newport, Hyde lost tonight and won't be an easy game that's for sure

Macclesfield vs Town, a must win game I don't think we have a good record against Macclesfield I think we might just come out on top.

Forthcoming fixtures:

Wrexham: Alfreton (H), Ebsfleet (H), Dartford (A), Lincoln (A)
Kiddy: Ebbsfleet (H), Gateshead (A), Grimsby (A)
Newport: Hyde (A), Hereford (A), Ebbsfleet (H)
Mansfield: Telford (H), Woking (A), Stockport (H), Grimsby (H)
Grimsby: Macclesfield (A), Forest Green (A), Kidderminster (H), Mansfield (A)

Ours look the hardest on paper, and Wrexham's look the easiest.

Well said.

I personally think we will end up in the play offs, solely because we don't pick up enough away points. With our home record and match up against the top 6 sides, we would be way out in front now if we could pick up more wins away. Only 5 so far which is on a par with teams middle to bottom of the league. Three of our rivals got that vital goal tonight away from home.

This is not negativity, it is fact, backed up by the league table.

Newports game with us is at Ebbsfleet, not at Newport. I think we will do you a favour in that one, although I dont see us getting much from the games at Wrexham & Kiddy, but we can but hope!

I have mixed feelings about Grimsby going up though - you're supporters really seem a decent bunch and despite your League history, haven't adopted the smug Big Time Charlie approach of some (and one in particular) of the other ex League clubs. So from that perspective I'd like to be playing you guys again next season. But on the other hand, with the same thing in mind, you supporters would deserve promotion. We had a decent game with you at our place, played in a really good spirit. You are definitely one of the better teams, if not the best (only Macclesfield spring to mind as matching you and we gave them a major helping hand with a dreadful performance that night) so again from that aspect, you would, in my book, deserve promotion.

All the best for the rest of the season (especially when playing our relegation rivals!)

I think that is because we spent many years being the underdog at championship level. There was nothing better than taking apart a team who just expected to turn up and win.

One memory is of Bryan Robson, when manager of Middleboro, saying that they should be beating the likes of Grimsby, just before we absolutely played them off the pitch. Think the game ended 1-1 and i still can't fathom why as we played some staggeringly good football that game.

I hope we go up soon though as the "football" played in this league is an eye opener after some of the stuff we got used to when we were actually any good.

Newports game with us is at Ebbsfleet, not at Newport. I think we will do you a favour in that one, although I dont see us getting much from the games at Wrexham & Kiddy, but we can but hope!

To be honest Alan a fair few of our number did have that attitude for the first season or so. But we've all learned.

Enjoy the rest of the season. And if we play again next season.....make sure your bar orders more beer for us thirsty northersners.  :)

Thats what I mean about you guys - genuine banter - on certain other boards, I'd probably get told to clear off in no uncertain terms!

We used to be the proverbial under dog and our ground, club and fans were looked down on from the bigger clubs, we were a thorn in their sides.  We loved that and we got used to a standard of football and believed it was our right to be in the Championship.  The venture into non league has been a hard one but it has grounded us and hopefully we can get back into the league.

I have more respect now for teams like Ebbsfleet regardless of how many fans make the trip.  Genuine football fans who love their club and go were ever it takes them.  I hope you stay in this league because on tonights showing you deserve to be.

Now sodomist off and eat some jellied eels you soft shandy drinking southerner  ;)

We won 2-1 that day. Two up in the first 10 minutes and Middlesbrough simply couldn't hold us...

Thanks for that Barra. I thought we won that game but my brother insisted it was 1-1 and my mind was playing tricks on me.

He usually has a better memory for that sort of thing, so i believed him.

Wrexham: Alfreton (H), Ebsfleet (H), Dartford (A), Lincoln (A)
Kiddy: Ebbsfleet (H), Gateshead (A), Grimsby (A)
Newport: Hyde (A), Hereford (A), Ebbsfleet (H)
Mansfield: Telford (H), Woking (A), Stockport (H), Grimsby (H)
Grimsby: Macclesfield (A), Forest Green (A), Kidderminster (H), Mansfield (A)

So if we beat FGR that's their automatic promotion dream in tatters, so must get 5 points from the other three games

Forthcoming fixtures:

Wrexham: Alfreton (H), Ebsfleet (H), Dartford (A), Lincoln (A)
Kiddy: Ebbsfleet (H), Gateshead (A), Grimsby (A)
Newport: Hyde (A), Hereford (A), Ebbsfleet (H)
Mansfield: Telford (H), Woking (A), Stockport (H), Grimsby (H)
Grimsby: Macclesfield (A), Forest Green (A), Kidderminster (H), Mansfield (A)

The good thing about our run in is we have the chance to force ourselves above the teams we play. If we want to finish top we simply have to be the best and beat the better teams..... we can do it!!

In some ways I think playing our rivals will bring the best out of us.

It will have to oldun otherwise it's playoffs for us, Laceby Andy is right too, We have to play these teams who are in the top 5 so it's in our hands to take points of these teams.
