More than happy with that team defence back together strong midfield and no tinkering with the strikers, anybody want to criticise the selection then do it now not after the game if we lose.

Like the look of the squad, the danger is we're constantly changing things. Hopefully a win tonight will cement some of these players places.

Pearson is the key man, I expect a good defensive display tonight, normal service resumed.

Looking at subs bench id have had Wood for Thanoj.  Suppose though Naylor can be moved to defence and supply cover there.

I thought Marshall lost the ball to which they countered us and the other 2 were counters when we had a corner?

Think he's trying to 1) take pressure off the players, 2) trying to avoid a negative vibe looming over the club if we do lose.

Thanoj flighted a pass towards Colbeck for the first giving up possession and after the Marshall break down Thanoj for me should have been more committed around the half way line to halt the counter.
Overall dont think he contributed well enough with the ball and we were wide open on the counter with him in there.

Harsh maybe but the pro Thanoj brigade have been quiet since Saturday as have the anti Niven quarter....

Thanks moosey

I think Thanoj is a work in progress as is Southwell there both still young and can only get better.  But maybe were expecting too much from them too soon.

Well, without good results quickly it's playoffs for us, which are a lottery, but I'm fairly confident we've got a chance.
At half time I said our missed chances would come back to bite us, and they have.
Nevertheless, faint hope of a title are still there, and we've still got a massive chance of promotion.

Yep.

Plus, I'd add, we've paid the price for having too many players who are performing at below par - Devitt, Colbeck, the strikers generally. Hard to take, espcially for that absolutely magnificent away following but that's football and that's Town for you.

And when it's in vital games like the last 2 if we scored first like we should have things could've been a lot different . Calm down dear. Deep breaths. Get some fresh air, have a stiff drink and stop being such a big drama queen.

We've lost to the division's in form team away from home in a game we could've won.

We're all disappointed but what's the point in slagging off Wembley and claiming we're never going to escape this league. That's a preposterous statement!

Sounded like a decent, industrious effort by town tonight but ran out of gas and ideas as Mansfield got their goals. It's a shame because that S&H hunger and application seems to be there but their belief has dissipated in such a short space of time. S&H really have work to do to get them going again.

Agree chaos33.  We have been pushing our luck over the last 20 games, getting results but masking a number of players under-performing. Don't know why. And the slow starts to matches.   Very hard to take. Other teams are more consistent.

Kidderminster and Mansfield found ways to go on long winning runs.

We have hit a blip which happens when you get to Wembley, we are fading again like we did last season now Forest Green have won their 3 points behind us but we have 3 games in hand with some winable games coming up.

March was always going to be tough the League hasen't done us any favours with us playing 5 games in 12 days in April, Wrexham could play their game against Dartford but we couden't play Macclesfield unfair the League has been to us.

The top four have all got each to play yet. We have Newport at home plus nine more winable games, its not over yet, even if its the play offs, no one will be queueing up to play us. I fancy us over anyone over two legs.

Calm down!!! Gutted?? Yes. Still optimistic for getting promoted via play-offs?? Yes  :)

No probs providing we don't have to play Mansfield or Kidderminster...

I feel that swapping and changing things around have not served us too well. I have never understood squad rotation particularly at this level as I think you should play your best team and also your best striker partnership ( Cook & Hannah).

I realise we have played well tonight but there does seem to be something missing at the moment. On Saturday and in many games we seem to be very vulnerable to be hit on the break. We must now beat Cambridge this Saturday. Finally, we miss Niven big time

the League hasen't done us any favours with us playing 5 games in 12 days in April, Wrexham could play their game against Dartford but we couden't play Macclesfield unfair the League has been to us.

It might be for you sunbeam! I'm sixty two fuckingyears old - I can't wait much bloody longer!

and as for losing a game we could have won - do we get any points for that at all?

62? Really? I thought you were a stroppy teenager.

In all seriousness I'm drunk off we've lost our last two games on the trot and may be there is some truth in some players having one eye on Wembley...but Christ on a bike! Let's enjoy our game at Wembley and keep backing the players and the club. We can still go up!

Let's not return to the doom and gloom of a few seasons ago.

Remember negativity is infectious.

No you've taken "We can't win them all" in the wrong context, im talking about the g ames coming up till the end of the season, you think im saying "well we can't win them all" because of this match

I think i would off stayed with Bradley Wood for most of the games he's had enough rest, he could carry on playing we need someone who going to get stuck in. Which other players will respond i feel Sam Hatton is only in the team on the chance of a free kick, he should take more pot shots at goal but he dosen't.

Does anyone think Ross Hannah has got that 30,000 price tag on his mind, i think he was unhappy Bradford wanting a fee for him. And that missed pen at Welling has knocked his confidence well back.

Not at all I think you were attempting to make the point that having to play 4 games in 8 days was a reason we might not win the title but you phrased it wrongly

Its going to be the toughest Play offs with all 5 teams being good Forest Green not out either, i feel Newport made some good signing with Christian Jolley and Robbie Willmott. Anthony Malbon took over from Jamille Matt for Kidderminster, Mansfield hit form again at the right time, Wrexham was their last season.

I feel as drained as listening to any Town game.  Also feel like that despondent Milan fan in his Milan shirt in with the Barca fans when they were celebrating another goal.

Some defeats hurt more than others.  Especially to main rivals when we actually started the better team and on their patch.

Well losing to two teams around us for two matches in a row when we have a chance to show we mean buisness to me is not great is it?

We bottled it last year to get in the playoffs.

All those fans thinking of going to Wembley....don't bother. All those fans who've foolishly already bought tickets for Wembley should just rip them up.

Now stop flirting with me Ipswin I've got to tear up my Wembley ticket

I dont just mean tonight i mean when we have to step up we never really do.

We always seem to come short and thats why i say we bottle it.

we get so close then just dont really end up delivering for the past couple seasons.

We've just lost to two of thr form sides in the league - one of whom has just set a club record for consequtive wins. Whilst this has undobtedly been a reality check for us supporterss, it was still two very hard fixtures that were always going to be hard games to get anything out of. Seems to me that today, especially, we played well. We lost, again, but take a look at the legue table, we are hardly out of the race for automatic qualification. Do you really  think that Wrexham, Newport and Mansfield are THAT good that they will win all of their games? I don't. And the dip in results that we have suffered is very likely to affect each of them too.

What the management at BP need to focus on is getting us believing again. Clearly we are good enough to beat anybody in this league on our day - we just need to start actually doing it again. I hope that the negativity on here doesn't spread to the supporters at the grounds - Town need the fans to believe too.

We can still put a good run of results together - sure we need to see the sides above us falter, but I bet every one of them does - we just need to be there to take advantage when they do.

Keep the faith fellow Mariners. A bad result (but by the sounds of it a good game and a decent performance) but let's get over it and look to the next game (at least when they come this thick and fast there isn't time to dwell on the last one)

I agree, we do. Is that about guts or commitment or concentration though, or is it about something else? I'd say it's more about quality.

To me you were unlucky. You deserved at least a point. I said to my mates a half time I'd be happy with a point against these they are a tidy side, you were the better side 1st half. We just have something going that'll take some stopping now.

Sometimes, a team goes on a run and the results just keep on coming, regardless of the performances.

We were like that a bit earlier in the season. Hopefully we'll get back there before too long!

We have a game on saturday, monday, wednesday, saturday how is that an excuse to not win the title

A fairly good one.
But bear in mind we might not be playing the same players in every game but keeping them fresh.

Let's face it, if we're gonna win the title playing so many games, we're gonna need almost everyone to chip in.
Say what you want about "squad rotation" but as long as everyone who plays does a good job (is that ever guaranteed anyway ?) as they have done, you're far stronger.

Ok you might argue chopping and changing doesn't help but where's the real evidence or proof ?
Wasn't so long ago, we were rotating players (e.g. Brodie, Colbeck, Neilson) all over the shop and still banging in the goals top of the league.

The real sodomist I fear is losing key players like Niven - but that's 0 to do with "squad rotation".
Thankfully we've actually got this safety net of sorts as backup where others (most fit through playing) can come in.

Won't we be "chopping and changing" by bringing Hearn in ?
tbh I would seriously consider giving Hearn a fair old stint in the Trophy final (if he's up to it physically) and resting others for Gateshead.
But also fully respect what S&H say about players having to earn their places in advance and it not being fair on Liam (or anyone else) to say anyone's guaranteed anything before it happens.

If there's a problem then let's address it.
But think sometimes you've got to just accept you've been unlucky.

That said, there's always a good case for finding a best formula (especially v Cambridge !)
To me, Cook and Hannah for me looks the safest bet.
I've seen or read no reason yet to believe Hannah's mini goal drought is down to "confidence" issues.
Yes he was "trying too hard" when he returned but guess since, it's just been bad fortune and the goals will just return whenever they do.
Good to hear he had his best game tonight (shame he missed the chance !  :-/)
But it proves it's not ALL about goals (if others can help score them) but a good contribution to the team.
