I think PH has picked a side with the opposition and the conditions in mind, something he doesn't often do. Two big strikers to contend in both boxes. Hatton better in the air than Biggers IMO, Paddy more defensive minded than Scotty Neils. Strong team though with a strong bench. UTM

Yep, Coolie was a handful that day and very unlucky not to keep his place in the next game.  When he came on as sub against Tamworth though he really looked up for it and I was chuffed when he got the 4th.  He needs to get a run of games to get his confidence up.

Conditions no doubt are not helping, but for the past couple of months why do we struggle for the first 20 minutes or so?

A lot of Town players first touch doesn't seem to good today, the pitch will not be helping.  Hope against the wind we play the ball on the deck and up our tempo.

When you play with the wind the tendency seems to be to use the long ball.

I just think disley goes missing and doesn't push up often enough considering he's supposed to be the more attacking midfielder of the two, kerr's really effective in what he does but when he has a bad game or is out the entire midfield crumbles. I thought if there was a lesson from last season it would have been two nivens would be better than one. And on Mclaughin, the only times i've seen him do well seems to be when he's on the wings doing berbatov skills to get past defenders (probably like two or three times this season), think he's got his position wrong.

Wasn't bothered about going to wembley, but our form recently is just getting a bit worrying, as good as winning away at cambridge was, its going to be useless if we're not in good form for every other game. Next game I want to see a bit of a change in gameplan, tonkoura starting, and a team that can actually do counterattacks, quickly, not just pass it sideways until the other team has got all 11 back behind the ball.

I don't want people to think im making a scapegoat of him for today, but definately think disley needs a few games out, just seems unfair that even when he's scored in games he's never really stood out for me this season in most games, not a good enough leader to be captain, bit like tom cleverly not sure what he does do alot of the time, just makes alot of sideways passes, seems unfair that mclaughin and thanoj can only get one game as an opportunity never a run, how can you judge them that way, all 3 seem like the type to partner kerr not to replace him, so disley should be the one to get left out.

McKeown makes another save. Their goalkeeper has caught a tame, deflected shot and a few crosses. How uninspiring.

Sometimes systems don't work but it's unfathomable that so many players can be so sh1t on an individual level. JT is a doom-monger but everything is 'poor' this, 'hopeless' that...not good enough!

Let Chris ask the questions as to why we've failed to turn up for what's one of our biggest games so far this season

Any more performances like this and we won't have any more big games at all

Back in the tie now despite a terrible performance, got to be much better next week - a game at wembley is at stake.

Taking the positives out of it at least we kept going to the very end.

The thing is, a team should evolve through the season, no players position in the team should be safe unless they're doing consistantly well, but paul hurst (and rob scott aswell) don't seem to have the balance of rotation and there never seems to be any adapting of gameplans as to what where up against. Some players don't seem to be allowed a real chance and some players seem to be guarantee'd a place in the team no matter what. Often changes that positvely affect the team only come by accident through an injury to one of the favoured players. The fact is we do have a quality team (though short in depth) and have often had to use that quality to battle through games where our gameplan is wrong. Often if the other team has any kind of quality, and our tactics aren't right for the game, its just game over, nothing will change throughout, as seen today. One of our main problems for over 3 seasons has been the slow pace of our counter attacks. How can the manager(s) have sat back and watched us fail to do, what so many teams do so succesfully to us. And thats have players up and ready, for when we get the ball out, to run up the other end, and create a chance, swiftly and aggressively. This season started with them seeming to miss the philosophy of the idea of a 4-3-3, but sticking with it way after everyone else could see it wasn't working, with no positives really anywhere to be seen. I really have respected the players we've signed in the last few years and definately beleive paul hurst has a great eye for qualities in players, but tactically we just seem fairly inept and I can only remember ONE real tactical change halfway through a game, and one that worked and that was in the FA trophy final last season.

Also whats with making subs so late on all the time?

Prefer PH "Soft manager" to shouty and angry Scott.  At the end of the day on our good run of form the players looked completely behind him, poor form atm perhaps but he is not the kind of man to get excited when we are on good form or down when we are struglling, that kind of stability is good imo!

Even if not deserved, the team have a reasonable chance of getting to Wembley.    The main aim though is to get to the play-offs in anything like decent form.   The opposition is likely to be easier than last year.

So we have played well in one league game a home this season then ?
This does not fill me with confidence ,I know I'm sounding negative but I seem to have a six sense when it comes to Town.
I had a feeling we'd be shite today the same as last week ,When i saw the team news I knew we'd lose and I expect so did many others on here.
Maybe its just years of Grimsby being excrement has knocked any optimism out of me  ;)

But two good performances and we're back at Wembley.....as favourites to win too.

A no brainer for me...Hurst wants us to win the trophy but set up a side today that was much too cautious and it came back to bite us

Still Shop's goal gives us a lifeline to show what we can really do IF we take the game to them

We're not going to win the league so to get the trophy win under our belt and then push on to win promotion via the play offs has to be the aim

Having seen the line-up I'd have taken 2-1; thought we'd lose by at least 2 and so nearly did. Gives us a shout but we've been so poor at home recently, hopefully the significance of the match renders those performances irrelevant; the players certainly need to forget about them and conjure the spirit of the Kidderminster and Huddersfield games.

I hope so mate, and tbh he has to say that he wants to win it. I'd love us to truly conquer the conference, Fa Trophy and a play-off final win. Two days out, both at wembley (if play-offs are at wembley this year) i feel another wembley double coming on... Reminiscences of '98 ;) UTM

If we dont go up I just hope we dont lose the core of the team

McKeown
Thomas
Kerr
Disley (he just needs a rest but has scored a few)

We could end up losing

McKeown
Thomas
Hatton (he will go)
McDonald
Doig
Kerr
Disley
McLaughlin
Rodman
Neilson
Hannah
LJL
Cook
Hearn

we could end up building a new team due to cost cutting then end up mid table.  :(
