The Tonk and LJL up front and Thomas back.
Posted by: Chrisblor, February 18, 2014, 7:11pm; Reply: 2
Thoughts: Disley is very lucky to retain his place and Thanoj is unlucky to miss out. Disley seems to be undroppable for some odd reason. Also quite surprised Rodman has retained his place. Hopefully LJL and Tounkara will link up like they did against Tamworth.

Amazed Rodman starts again. Disley has the armband which I think is the only thing keeping him in the team at the minute. Hoping Tank and LJL pick up where they left off. Come on Town!

The worrying thing is, after a dreadful performance in the last game, the very least you would expect would be an energetic and explosive response from the off, but it's the same old tortoises on tranquilizers.  :o

I accept we can't really expect to win every game but to lose without putting up any kind of fight is unacceptable

Hurst needs to tear into them during half time and tell them all to get their fingers out

If our players can't @rsed to put in a good shift then PH needs to question himself...we've got plenty of ability no doubt but its the application of it giving problems

No excuses now - we need the next 45 minutes to be full of passion from our lads and if they go down fighting so be it. At least they'll have tried to turn it around
Posted by: bluebottle, February 18, 2014, 8:45pm; Reply: 85

I accept that they squander a few chances, but definately feel they don't get given alot in the way of opportunities due to the team playing to deep all the time, lack of good balls into the box, and lack of quick counter attacks to stretch the opposition defences. Our attacking tactic consists of passing it around infront of 11 men until we either lose it and have to run back or get a scrap into the box. How many of our goals have come from corners or set peices this season?

You know, keep Barnet guessing!
Surely to god you take off a defensive player when you are a goal down with 5 minutes left d'ont you?
I've said for ages that  IMO Hurst is doing a decent job, but has little idea on attacking play and we badly  need an attack minded coach.

We're only 4 points off with 5 games in hand on Salisbury & Nuneaton....not difficult to make that up provided we can win a couple.

Given current form though it's hard to call whether we've got those wins in us?

18 games to go...at this rate if we carry on with this stop start stuttering form it might be a big ask  :-/

Definately like i've just said above, attacking tactics have been poor both seasons, said in another thread should bring in an experienced assistant manager whos been part of a succesful coaching team before, agree with what you said should have an attacking bias

Can't keep a clean sheet and the strikers can't score when we are on top. Another blank from the front four tonight.

Pretty poor all round. 1 point off the play offs now becomes 4 points off the play offs. I know we have games in hand, but they have to be won or at least drawn to keep pace.

Its sounds simple from watching and commentaries, we are totally fixed into compartments till we are chasing the game. Its almost like we play 4-2-2-2. when we put the ball in the box in open play we only seem to have one player in there which means crosses have to be inch perfect. This sitting off and letting teams have the ball where they cant hurt us always seems to hurt us, we should push 5 players on every time they get possesion. Wer are not playing against Messi and co. Most defenders in this league panic when put under pressure.  :o

Its like the game where kidderminster were 3-0 up in 16 minutes against us, in the second half when we got 2 back, we were FINALLY doing what they were d oing to us, and pushing players up, and getting the ball up the pitch faster, and their defence started having a nightmare! until we petered out later in the game, but it just proved me right in what I always harp on about under these managers, but sadly they didn't see it and we havn't really done that since.

After the first half showing I'd challenge anyone to be cheerful tonight mate

I did say at half time if we went down fighting I'd give them some credit....well they seemed to want it in the 2nd half but just when we finally get on top of the game (after an hour!!) we let it slip at the end

In the scheme of things I guess this is a defeat that we can say was to a team who are up there rather than from the wrong end of the table who just set out to stop us playing but why only show for half of the game (again)

If we'd gone into the game with the attitude we showed after half time maybe we'd have had some reward tonight and been that bit cheerier?

Please forgive all of us who are drunk off when we lose in such a predictable manner.

Tonight's result may not mean much if we still make the play offs, which we should, but the performances don't suggest we have the capability to win through in the play offs, when we can't score and can't defend.

Our strikers have returns that suggest a relegation side, not a promotion winning side. If people are happy with that, then fine.

I'm struggling to understand why the players are so F@#king slow to start and get stuck into games from the off.  I think that the 2nd leg against Cambridge was more on the players mind tonight than the bread and butter game we needed the points from.

We have proven fire power at this level, the problem is midfield, no balance and no midfield general / play maker.  To many players getting an automatic start when they are either off form or not good enough.  I just hope that the play off's don't slip through our fingers, sadly on this form it will.

The worse thing I heard tonight was from my lad who was at the game, he said that this side looked like the Town of recent seasons, clueless, 2nd to the ball and not good enough, we should have been out of the game by half time.

I don't understand your definition of "sustained". Exactly three weeks ago as of last night our "poor" team played Cambridge off the park in, if what we are led to believe on here is true,  the ONLY important competition we play in.
Four days after Cambridge we thumped Tamworth 4-1- a mere 17 days ago.
I wasn't there last night and am loathe to read too much into the commentary of a game I didn't see but we apparently had much the better of the second half.

So from the available evidence it would appear the sustained run is two admittedly poor results sandwiched between the same number of good performances and a game where we appeared to be worth a draw.

Why not invoke the current "in-phrase" and call it an unprecedented run of bad results-who knows Cameron, Miliband, Clegg and Farage may turn up in their wellies to offer sympathy and "support".

The reaction from some on here is bordering on hysteria...
