Deluded? I don't think so pal, maybe you can't see for the rose tinted specs.  One person is the reason we are playing in this tinpot league and his name is John Fenty.

Like the look of us going forward, with Hannah and Paddy running at them and Lenny playing simple passes to bring others into play.  Want us to go for the third though as I don't fancy getting to 75 mins and then retreating to our own 18 yd line!

Quick half time report from the ground. Town have looked really good in the first half and in reckon we could have had another goal to be honest. There have been occasional spells where we seem to switch off but then wake up and really turn it on again. Macca has made a couple of good saves too and to be honest was very unlucky to let the Alfreton goal in.. He got to it but it rolled off his glove and into the net.

On the strength of how we are playing so far I would hope this one should be ours.

I rarely see Town play due to location but I've been impressed with that first half, especially off the ball they're giving Alfreton very little opportunity to do anything.  Fingers crossed they've finally found their best starting line-up in time for the play offs.

Posted by: immariner, April 18, 2014, 5:22pm; Reply: 79
Could've had 4 or 5, Thanoj had to score and Boyce had a couple of good chances! Hannah has 2 goals but you've got to say a big stroke of luck for both. The first is a great run but the shot is saved 99/100 (the percentage shot is the lob) and for the second he's looking along the line but given the linesman the opportunity to raise his flag. Will take them though and should give him plenty of confidence. Some good movement causing them problems.

Come on Town!

So if Fenty suddenly said, "intercourse all you, I`m off !!",  and left the Club taking whatever money / shares was due him.
Town would be well and truly fooked and up excrement creek, and probably out of business.

Why is Kempson still on the pitch. Should have been booked first half, should have had a red second half and again should be booked for the penalty.

Started to think my half-serious suggestion of Paddy as a steady left back might be a great idea. Thomas is becoming a liability, stupid unnecessary header to set their goal up,  and a last minute handball not spotted by a rubbish ref.
We're constantly held back by poor ref decisions, bad luck and a lack of cohesion when we need to play keep ball. Won't get far in the playoffs with all those things happening.

I can take positives from that. That's the best attacking display I've seen from us this season. Midfield look loads more creative without Disley, Thanoj, Nielson, LJL & Hannah all combined superbly.

Unfortunately our defence have thrown all the positives away with a shite display. It's shocking that from our position at Xmas we've still not crossed the line with 2 to go. IF we do make them, we cannot change this side about now, let's get a run going with this 11 (Rodman in ahead of Paddy)

And that ladies and gents is why we fail. Drew a game we should have won at a canter. They had about 6 attacks and scored from 3. We had numerous chances to put them away and yet again we didn't.

Thank fook we have Hyde at home. Couldn't wish for a better fixture but i'm not at all confident now. It'll go down to the last game and that shoudn't be the case.

A highly entertaining game for those more interested in entertainment than results, and I know there are a couple on here who feel that way. 3 points against Hyde will probably be enough I suspect, depending on the other results of course.

I can't see both Gateshead and Braintree winning tough away fixtures on Monday, albeit against teams with nothing to play for. That would be pretty unfortunate for us. And if we win (and) by a few goals, which is possible, it might not guarantee a play off place but it will make it very difficult for Gateshead if they only get a point, with Cambridge to play on the last day.

So pi$$ed off with that! We were clearly that better team against a hardworking Alfreton team. 3 goals scored, a header off the bar and another off the line. How the hell did Kempson stay on the pitch after he hauled down Pearson for the penalty? Clear second yellow!!!
Having said that we gifted them two goals! Poor defending by Pearson for the penalty when their man was going away from goal, and seriously WTF was Thomas thinking?!!!

Oh, and really expected Tonka to come on today and run, twist and turn against Kempson to finally earn the red he should have had. But forget that he had a great game last Tuesday, which drops you to the bench as an unused sub.

Town played really well going forward today. The game should have been wrapped up long before Alfreton got back in the  match. Midfield functioned well - LJL and Hannah played well. Considering the match preparation, it was encouraging going forward to the play offs.

They did tend to lose the ball by trying to be clever on the edge of their own penalty box, too many times. Eliminate some of that and this team should be played for the rest of the games (barring injuries)

Not tough at all if you look at the form table, and Barnet will be playing a few squad players, they have already said that.  Cambridge will be resting key players ahead of the playoffs.

Unlike us, our rivals win key games against also rans when they need to

So the most likely outcome is that we will need a point at Braintree to get into the playoffs.  As things stand I don't see us getting it. :B

Feels like a defeat in some ways when really should be enjoying a satisfying win and appreciating some good forward play by us

Why did Kempson only get one yellow?

Clattered LJL in the first half but no booking (yet LJL got himself a booking for standing still waiting for one of their players to jump on him :-/ )

Stopped Hannah running through when last man and got a booking only

Brought down Pearson for the penalty but no card whereas Pearson got a yellow when he gave his away

Surely he shouldn't have been on the pitch for the last 20 minutes giving us more time and space to get a possible two goal cushion

Then again, if only the ref had sent Aswad off for being a liability we might have got something more than a draw

When he's going  forward I quite like him but his own publicity of being the best left back outside of the FL....

On this season's performances? Nowhere close!

How come we're third and all our rivals for the remaining three spots are below us? At the moment only Halifax wouldn't swap their position for ours.

Alfreton aren't also rans anyway. They have only lost 3 times at home all season, and still had a chance of making the play-offs had they won.

Gateshead who dropped 2 points at home today.

As for Thomas, did McKeown shout for the ball? If not, then what was he supposed to do? I know Jimmy Mac's a great shot stopper, but commanding the area does seem to be something that needs to be worked on.

Really?! You have much lower expectations than me then. I wanted us to mount a serious title challenge this season and we're wimpering our way into the play-offs.

The way I see it; it is in Braintree's and Gatehead's hands now. If they both win both of their games, they're in and we're not. Simple.

I think we will stumble our way in there by default of one of those two not picking up maximum points but it is nowhere near what I would have hoped for in August.

I wouldn't have hoped for a playoff scrap in August either, but I'd rather be in our position than in Gateshead's.

74 points with Hyde (h) and Braintree (a) to play.

Or 73 points with Macc (a) and Cambridge (h) to play.

People accuse Hurst of having his favourites and treating players differently, but some on here are worse for it.

Pearson has an average game. Makes a mistake leading to a goal (poor defending and fouls Akinde for their penalty). Comes out of the game with no criticism.

Thomas actually had a decent game, good going forward. Makes a mistake leading to a goal (the header). Comes out with people saying he should never play for Town again.

Obviously it would be nice to challenge for the title, but I'd take play offs. Just look at Forest Green... Their wage bill must be at least on par with ours... It could be worse!

To be honest though if we fail to get into the play offs it w'ont be just
down to the missed chances today, only a matter of a few weeks ago
we were virtually level on points with the likes of Gateshead / Halifax etc
with up to 6 games in hand, most of those have been wasted for varying
reasons, while the others hit form  and if results d'ont go for us on Monday
i fear for us getting a result at in form Braintree next Saturday with them
equally desperate for a result to make the play offs and with home advantage
to boot.
Could be a very long week!

PH decision to change the whole 10 against Dartford looks like it may come back to haunt us now. I can see us just beating Hyde on Monday but can see Braintree winning too which means we have to go to their place next Saturday looking for a point. Not the place you want to go when needing a result to get into the play-off's... :o

Thought we played well just didn't get the rub of the green really. At least we looked like a threat at last and scoring 3 goals proved that if you create enough chances you will score goals. Alfreton were a poor team but for Akinde, and our woeful defending, we need to replace Kerr next season he is far too slow getting back when we attack. I would use the same players again Monday and hope we are guaranteed a playoff spot so we can put out the reserves at Braintree when it doesn't matter. PS Thought Cook coming on killed us as an attacking force.

Thomas actually had a decent game, good going forward. Makes a mistake leading to a goal (the header). Comes out with people saying he should never play for Town again.

What ? Pearson set up 2 sitters with far post headers across the goal. , won a peno , hit the bar and did his usual job at the back . He got a touch on the ball for the pen he gave away too

That's irrelevant to the point I'm making.

The point is they both made mistakes leading to goals against, yet Thomas seems to come out with some criticism that is way over the top.

Thomas is making mistakes every week, Pearson isn't
