That performance was  bottom of the barrel stuff and is bound to turn the faithful away, question is when it comes to the manager should we stick with him or twist another.

The players he has signed have been generally OK but his failure to bolster his strike force when many an opportunity arose IMO has spoilt his expectations and ours.

It seems that inconsistency will again keep us down in this league,  so to avert this something has to change now before its too late, that is spend on a decent striker and

keep the manager or release Paul Hurst and try another managerial tact.

Changing the manager is a risk ie better the devil you know, but failing to do anything after that awrful display is also a risk in falling gates and a static league position
.

The people with the deciding vote are our two trust members on the board. So what do they think?

My view is there is no point changing while we still have a reasonable chance of making the post-season,

Thats exactly why we should twist now !
Its been the same for the last 3 seasons , lets not change because we still have a chance of the play offs .
We have no chance of the title now and very little chance of the play offs with this loser in charge .

I do not think Hurst will get us out of this league,

He can not get the players to play consistently from one game to another,

One game we are good the next awful .

Sorry Paul, you have got to go.

Nah. I still think we will make the play-offs. Tend to doubt we will be good enough to go up though, based on tonight's non-performance against another of the 'weaker' teams in the division.

Personally, I'm not a fan of changing manager mid-season as it rarely works out. For every one that does, you get many more that don't. I thought it an error when Woods eventually went and Scott and Hurst arrived. Woods needed to go, but there was no reason not to wait until the summer for that move as we were on a hiding to nothing with that team. We're painfully inconsistent at the moment, but I wouldn't like to see a change unless things take a turn drastically for the worse.

Just listened to the post-match interview which was pretty sensible as usual. However, I thought Hurst was much too kind to the players. Without naming names, he could certainly have been a lot more critical of the performance. It is fine to note that you get poor performances from time to time, but I reckon giving the players a rocket when they've been that bad is more than deserved. Perhaps he's just being too nice without the Scott to play the bad cop role?

Twist. This season was about having a proper go at the title and we're way, way short. It's staggering. Only my second time at the Park tonight and couldn't believe how abject and devoid of ideas we looked.

Hurst fills me with absolutely no confidence tactically and in the transfer market.

I'd give Ronnie Moore a chance. Experience grafter with something to prove. Has had success at ugly, unfashionable clubs and the FA investigation that undid his fantastic work at Tranmere was proven to be a shambles (sacked over a £2 accy ffs).

God knows why you would think that was a sensible interview, we all saw that it was sh!t, he should have come out and said so and made it clear that he will not accept another performance like that again , but unfortunately he hasn't got the balls.

I wonder whether Luton and Mansfield's fans were talking about "consistency" as a reason for sacking their managers after they had their slow starts ?
For me, there's every chance we can get on a winning run at some point.
If we win 7 on the trot 20 games into the season, it's fine by me.
Stick.

Are you sure fans won't just look at results ?
Without wanting to be negative, what if we change and things don't improve ?

All that concerns me is whether Hurst will EVER have the fans support no matter how well he does.
Some have been suggesting for a while (irrespective of tonight) that he will never win the fans over.

It probably was sensible and considered but fans didn't want that. They want to hear what he is going to do about it and how unacceptable performances like that are. What we got is the usual Hurst platitudes.

Truth be told, after sleeping on it, I'm more concerned about the season than I was last night. This doesn't change my view that swapping managers willy-nilly during the season is a bad idea. I still remember that when Groves was sacked we were a few points above the relegation spots and Nicky Law duly showed what can happen when a new manager is brought in.

However, until last night, I just didn't think that our current squad had it in them to give as bad a performance as that. I thought that one or two of the team at least would be able to raise their games to lift the team to be merely bad instead of completely awful, but apparently not. You would have thought that Brown ought to have been the one leading the way and getting things moving but all he did last night was get himself needlessly booked.

Just waiting for the inevitable, "We know we weren't good but promise we will be better next time" interviews from the players in the Telewag.

As for Hurst, he's just got to do something about the balance of the squad. Having just 3 strikers (one an almost untested youngster on loan) in the squad is just not enough. Having just 2 wingers in the squad is not enough. Arnold is perhaps expected to be the extra striker/winger in the mix, but he shows no signs of being fit enough to play more than ten minutes every couple of weeks at present.

If Hurst was looking for another striker before the transfer window closed and before Pittman became injured, why hasn't he got another one in since then?

This is what last night's rubbish performance shows - no options in the attacking positions when everyone is playing poorly. Hurst needs to sort this out as soon as possible.

Good man Alfie , I got right royally slated end of last season for mentioning Ronnies name . Motivation , someone available who has done it before . No guarantees , but nothing is certain , only certain thing is we are going no where fast at this moment in time .

That coming from you is a damming post I agree with what you say regarding our striking force or lack of it,  IMO having had time to think I would twist and take the risk because sticking with  the unpopular Hurst will only escalate a division in the customers which will eventually effect the players.
The place was like a morgue last night with no sound of a Paul Hurst`s Black and White Army, not many sane people will pay to watch that crap

Agreed.

Watch the gate rise by a good few hundred once PH goes.

I don't see him as the man to take us forward. Everyone who sits around me don't. I'd say that poll of 70% is quite fair.

Question for you all. Look at how Chester tried to play on Saturday. Give Steve Burr  our squad would he have a better chance of taking us up?

I think PH would be a good defensive coach or even assistant. I just don't think his reactive enough or has the ruthless mannerism (no real evidence to back that statement up)

Making a chance in the coming weeks would give the new man time to assess what he needs to strengthen before the window in Jan. My worry is all season PH keep buying his time and then in the summer everyone will say give him a chance new season new players etc.

Well, my viewpoint as regards the weakness of the forward options (both strikers and wingers) hasn't really changed throughout the season. I've been saying that we need a couple of players in as we don't have the numbers there and as we've seen, a couple of injuries and we're knackered. Not sure what Hurst is playing at here unless he's simply not been able to find players who are good enough yet still willing to come here on the wages we can offer.

I've defended the status quo in the past month or so because there was way too much hysteria about some poor results when we hadn't really played that badly most of the time (though we've only played particularly well in fits and starts). We should undoubtedly have a few more points on the board than we do now, but being on the wrong side of narrow margins has meant we have lost out.

However, last night was our first really terrible performance of the season and to tell the truth, I can't really remember a home performance as awful as that last season, either. I thought that we didn't have such an inept display in us but I'm very disappointed in most of the players.

We've just got to somehow start grinding the results out again as we had done in the 3 games prior to last night.

Sacking Groves worked, it was the bringing Law in bit that let that down!

I seem to recall that Groves' points/game ratio would have been good enough to keep us up, wouldn't it, if they had continued?

Obviously, the brief Cockerill caretaker reign was fantastic but then Nicky "Fecking" Law managed something ridiculous like 12 points from 13 games. Shocking.

Like everyone is sayng , not one player stood out , going through the motions . I went by myself last night as my other 2 colleagues we out of town  . Just the basics , passing and controlling making yourself available missing from our game .. We hear that there's a good team spirit , but has the manager lost the dressing room . Why isn't Doig on the touch line , why persist with a front line that has never really worked .

I pay my money but I'm not being entertained , the nights are drawing in , and it will soon be getting colder . Decisions will be made soon if it's worth while me sitting freezing my nuts off to watch that. .

Chester let us play , I said to my son I thought  it flattered us . Have I been proved right ?

Hurst keeps going on about being unlucky . You make you're own luck mate by picking strikers who miss fooking sitters every game
Posted by: 137 (Guest), October 1, 2014, 1:23pm; Reply: 26
I'm a natural 'sticker' because I think a manager should be given the season to bed in a number of decent/good signings.

Have some feeling for a 'twist' because I think the squad is good enough (and have demonstrated this on occasions) but
another manager with a different approach could get more out of them. Though I don't much care for the guy, a Neil Warnock
type might get this side bubbling and believing.

I have no idea who - at this level - that person might be, and until an alternative exists JF won't (and shouldn't) sack PH.

That for me is the question will he get us out of this league .. To my mind not a chance in hell .. He can't pick a team can't motivate the players   So he will have to be sacked in the end   might as well do it now and see if if someone can salvage the season

If I recall correctly the caretaker when Groves left was Graham Rodgers and not Cockers

His caretaker role was a lot earlier than that...when Buckley left maybe,  before Brian Laws came to us my memory tells me?

Ah, right. They do all tend to blur into one. I know that whoever took charge for those few games did a good job which Law and his useless signings promptly unravelled.

I think his points per game over the season to date may have done (not sure), but the 10 games pre-sacking were so shite (4 points from 30, including some batterings) that the ppg were rapidly decreasing!

It doesn't matter what they think as individuals, they are there to represent the views of Trust members, and unless they ask Trust members whether they support Hurst or not they cannot therefore represent those views.

IMO Trust members won't be consulted and the two guys will merely vote as JF tells them to.
