Perhaps there is another reason we don't know about as to Clay's absence ?

Illness, injury, said something out of turn. We don't know what goes on behind the scenes.

It's so annoying that we've are not converting chances.  In all the games we've played this season we've created enough chances to be 2-0 up within 30 minutes.  The only small crumbs of comfort is that we are creating chances.  Being the eternal optimistic - well you have to be being a Town fan - I hope it will click and we starting burying these poorer teams.

It should've been drilled into the Town players thick pea brain heads beforehand what to expect against such basic teams.  It's really not difficult: the only way cloggers will win games is by gamesmanship, winding players-up and scruffy set plays.

You need to be 100% professional for 90 minutes never mind what the provocation.

We were saying that after going 5, then 7 points behind. Whose to say it won't get bigger?

Just the one questionable defeat in the first six games is not disastrous as far as I am concerned

Admittedly we've had chances to take more points in all four of the games that we haven't won but we've not been left so far behind that it is going to be impossible to catch up

When we start taking points off the likes of FGR and Eastleigh in six-pointers then we should be back up with the leading pack

Lose those of course and that's another matter but to use the old cliché...it's a marathon and not a sprint.

There's no reason just three weeks in to the season to be so down-hearted and think that we can't be champions. We can be...just keep believing! :)

I'm not panicking. As stated several times before, i don't think Hurst has what it takes to make us champions and if we go up, it will be via the play-offs.

History and current results have yet to prove otherwise.

Because its deja vu season after season..

Are some seriously not concerned that we never seem to just man up and take it to this excrement league.

Its always if if if or were only 9 points behind , why cant we ever be the ones to lay a marker down.

I will tell you why because after five and a half years paul hurst hasnt got what it takes.

Okay so if we sacked Paul Hurst then who would you bring in ?? And who says he will want these players we have now who are capable of becoming champions

Given the circumstances you would have to consider this a decent point.

However we are now NINE points behind the leaders and we have yet to face a decent side and we are not yet out of August !

Finally if I hear another reporter saying Grimsby SHOULD be 2-0/3-0 up I think I will top myself !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

FRUSTRATED !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

We all said in the summerthat this league is win in the first half , with the exception of Mansfield most champions have run away with it from the off .
Deluding ourselves that it's only nine points to catch up already is exactly the same as the last four years.
It's gonna be the play offs at best and we all know we can't win them

Never said i wanted him sacked. That's not my decision to make and you always run the risk of doing even worse. I will just support the team as usual and wait for someone, anyone to take us out of this league. If Hurst does it, then in my opinion it will be via the play offs. I'm not saying he is a excrement manager, just not got the nous the outperform the opposition. He's the non league Arsene Wenger. Perpetual finishers in 3rd and 4th spot.

I've always been cautious about all the hullaballoo from some that we are going to storm the league this year.

Just to make it clear. I'm not moaning, i'm not negative and i'm not asking for Hurst to be sacked. I'm just disappointed that once again we look off the pace so early. I hope we storm the league, but i just can't see it at present.

A difficult question. I never thought we'd bounce straight back after 2010 because we'd fallen such a long way. I think we "stopped the rot" in 2010/11 so for me that was a kind of success, failed to progress at all in 2011/12. Improved greatly in 2012/13 and had two excellent cup runs-stagnated in 2013/14 and then pushed on in 2014/15. I don't and never will have promotion as my only criterium for success. I would watch Town whatever level they were at and although EVERY season I "hope" they get promoted I accept that football isn't always that simple (edit:-rarely that simple). My health really isn't good enough to get too wound up by it. As Julie Andrews said "When I'm troubled I simply think of my favourite things" and I've seen some bloody fantastic things at GTFC since I started watching them in 68/69. Can't really be more specific (at 22:45 on a Saturday night)

Think our performances so far have on average been much better than last term. We will always have a bad performance here and there. Results will come if we can keep putting in a good performance. Happy for us to be written off by the other teams, town have never played well under pressure regardless of the squad at the time.

I wish I could be as stoical as you Barra. Seems our successometers are calibrated differently. For me it's been failure every year with some enjoyable spots along the way - more of the enjoyment comes from things off the pitch than on it.

But given your philosophical nature, how can you not accept that some people are rather annoyed at the way things have panned out/are panning out? It seems odd you seem to get so wound up at other people getting annoyed with the performances (overall over the past X year, not specifically today) and or express the view that the manager isn't good enough? Even if they're wrong, it seems perfectly reasonable for people to question things. it's not such a ludicrous position to hold.

I think by definition all of us on here (almost all of us) would watch Town whatever level they're at.
Posted by: ginnywings, August 30, 2015, 12:25am; Reply: 179
For some reason, those that say we are going to win the league are applauded and seen as positive Town fans, whereas those who don't think Hurst is good enough to make us champions are seen as negative moaners. Neither camp can see into the future, yet it's way more acceptable to voice your opinion in the affirmative, than it is to have doubts.

The only thing that we have to go on is what has happened to date and that is near miss after near miss, followed by another average set of results at the start of this season. If you think it will come good and being 9 points off the lead is somehow negated by it being early in the season, then that is your prerogative. If however, you feel this season already looks to be going the same way as the previous ones, then who can blame people for having that view?

They say history never repeats but it does if your a Town fan it seems.

Apart from the drama queens who regularly decide that they are never going to set foot inside B.P. again!
I normally limit myself to a couple of posts post-match but regrettably found myself well wound up by the attitude of people who weren't even there criticising team/manager. For the record I thought the 10 men who got us out of the mess created by Gowling, ably assisted by a manager who showed tactical nous were absolutely fantastic. The atmosphere Wembley aside was the best I've been in since probably the Tottenham game in 2005. My philosophical nature (although I'm no Epicurus or Jeremy Bentham) only supports me to the level that it allows me to accept that occasionally things happen in football that step outside of the norm. Had Town not done as well as they undoubtably did with ten men and had gone on to lose the game I'd not have reacted as much on here. If people's expectations are such that they consider a point won in such circumstances (against a team that actually have started as well as us with a more difficult group of fixtures) to be two points lost in the great scheme of things then I genuinely believe they should consider another hobby for the sake of their collective health. I'm a positive sort of person and sometimes even I think I'm a bit too happy clappy but to read on here that Operation Promotion has become an embarrassment because we aren't in the same position as FGR, Wrexham etc. FFS!

Barra, I respect you and often find I agree with you, but this is an incredibly dismissive, almost elitist post. 'Drama queens'? And once again, this notion running through yours (and others' posts) that if you don't attend a match you have no right to a view on it (particularly if it contains critical or disappointed content). This is the real 'negativity' on this board in my view, and it makes me want to stop contributing. I personally have not criticised the manager or players per se (although I'm sure we can all agree that Gowling was foolish). I personally don't think that operation promotion has become 'an embarrassment'. Why so defensive and dismissive of other people's views?

I have followed Town for more than 30 years and have studied, played and coached the game. My view is as valid as anyone else's and there are aspects of our current situation that, believe it or not, need discussion and scrutiny. In my opinion, people who cannot tolerate others challenging their views, or expressing a position that implies some critical analysis are obstructing our evolution. It cannot be denied that our results and league position thus far this term are following a familiar pattern since we fell to this level, and that the gap to the impressive leaders is, at best, unfortunate.
For the record, I think yesterday's result and performance ought to earn the manager and players plenty of praise. I do try to remain balanced in all my posts, but obviously that isn't coming across.

I think the board is a better place if people can allow some respectful and friendly debate about our team without having to resort to calling people 'drama queens' or excluding or disparaging their views because they didn't/couldn't attend a particular game.

A good post & you could apply that to some of our fans attitude also we have had a difficult start but lost only the once to Forest green.
2nd half we lost the game instead of pressing home our advantage, your midfield won every 2nd ball, every header and bossed the midfield.
While our players ball watched to a degree.
A season is not just one game but 46 every point gained is a point towards the end result.

You also make a good point about us not having the biggest budget and i alluded to that after last weeks game. Like it or not, FGR and Eastleigh are paying wages way beyond what we can afford, despite us having far bigger attendances. If either of those sides are managed competently, then we will have to fight tooth and nail (as you say) to better them and this is where the manger comes in. Football history is littered with success stories of teams that win leagues beyond their expectations and managers that achieve way more than they have a right to. I don't feel Hurst is such a manager despite being very competent. He just doesn't have the chutzpah to take us to the next level IMO.

This is where some confusion appears among SOME posters regarding my views. I'm not panicking, i'm not moaning, i'm not being negative and i'm not naive enough to think that finding and appointing a league winning manager is easy, so i'm just going to enjoy the ride and hope that we somehow get out of this league.

I still feel that last season was our best chance and that was scuppered by a poor start and too much fannying about getting a striker on board. FGR and Eastleigh have had another season to get their acts together and now look stronger than last year. Wrexham also seem to have improved by bringing in the manager i think we should have gone for. It's going to be tougher this season but if we can get that defence as lean and mean as last season, we now have the goals in us to make a difference.

As ever, i live in hope.

After supporting Town for over fifty years ,I would still support them if they were in the Lindsey Marsh League. This board is one  of the best boards going of any club.People posting on here should welcome a divergence of opinions (within reason) and welcome and encourage people to state individual opinions after all the the clue is in the phrase discussion.

It would be a very boring board if posters felt only able to post that agreed with the prevailing views.

Really?  You actually belive that?  Jeez.  Forest Green are 9 (nine) points ahead of us, the mighty Eastleigh and Woking are above us.  If you can be satisfied with that then I guess your expectation level is a bloody mile away from mine.  Same sh1t different season.

Nobody is saying they are satisfied with the results so far,

BUT

Promotion is won after 46 games NOT  6.

But in August wouldn't you rather have maximum points in the bag?

Isn't that a better indicator of ultimate success in April than having 50%?

No how many points we have in August means nothing,

Its how many points we have at the end of the season that counts,

I would like us to win every game but we all know that's not possible.

UTM.

Well where to start.....

Firstly I deliberately didn't name anyone as a drama queen. To my knowledge you have never come on here and said you won't go back to Blundell Park after a defeat. There are however posters who fit that description. You know it and I know it.
Elitist? I don't know...I do find it a lot easier to take on board the opinions of people who have actually witnessed the game that I've witnessed. By that I mean ANY opinion. It would be a very sad world if we all had the same opinion on the way forward for GTFC. As Marinerz 93 said we could all stand in a line and have a different view on what happened. I didn't see the sending off incident so, at half time I went in search of people who did. The first person said Gowling didn't touch him. The second said Gowling had him by the throat and the third said that he had him round the neck in a virtual stranglehold. The proof of the pudding...
If this was a film buffs board and the discussion was about a recently released film which I hadn't seen I wouldn't dream of commenting on the content for fear of making myself look daft. We'll just have to agree to disagree on validity of opinion when the person wishes to comment on something they haven't seen and expects their opinion to carry the same weight. It's like having a court case where the witnesses haven't seen the incident the case is about...
I've been called some things but never an evolution obstructor!!
To finish did you read back what you wrote? You accuse me of being defensive after detailing your defence against my (alleged) allegations.
To save the rest of the contributors from the terminal boredom of reading about two idiots who should know better I suggest that any further correspondence on this matter is dealt with by p.m.

Don't the BBC do live commentary from the Odeon then?
