One change arnold in for mackreth.

Tomlinson keeps his place, amond and bogle on the bench.

If it doesn't, I've officially lost all patience with the bloke.

Amonds only just returned to training and i assume Bogle is being taught a lesson for his wrexham antics and twiitter posts?? Wait till after the game to slate the team and PH eh?

FFS I like to back hurst wherever I can but can't understand leaving bogle and amond out yet again! Hope he proves me wrong but it's like he is playing for a draw rather than just trying to attack teams to submission

Tomlinson's performances do not warrant his selection. Amond should be walking into the team if fully fit, but clearly Hurst has something against him.

^ AMOND IS INJURED, so he is not going to be back into the side. Tomlinson is upfront due to performing well, he gives it all, he may not score, but JPP does and Tomlinson's energy makes up for his lack of goal threat...

Will of course wait to see result and performance but boy Hurst likes giving his critics weapons to beat him with. Cannot argue with JPP his goal return has been top but leaving you 2 top scorers on the bench for players who played at the weekend and a guy who has yet to score leaves you struggling to understand him an looks like a bad choice.  Please may Paul prove me wrong with that call.

Good to see Arnold back though!

It's remarkable that people on here think PH picks a team to spite the supporters. He's a professional and I doubt anyone wants a victory more than him. He picks a team to win the game and we should support him.
If it goes wrong he'll be held accountable but for goodness sake wait till it does

I can't defend that.

However, I can see the guys frustration. You turn up to a game hoping to see your best team, that's what you pay your money for.

That starting 11 (yet again) is not our strongest 11. Hurst is absolutely killing the atmosphere at this club with this ridiculous crusade.

You have to wonder if there's been problems in training or some sort of fall out. I think the idea that it's a crusade is ridiculous and as others have said I'm sure he's doing what he thinks is right as ultimately it's his job and livelihood. He'll certainly be getting plenty of stick on here later if we don't win.

I sincerely hope he bags a goal. He puts in a great shift and that itself is commendable.

Goal or no goal, it does not and would not make it right to select him ahead of Amond or Bogle.

Results-based thinking is my biggest bug-bear with a decent proportion of this site and (at least in his public-facing guise) Mr Hurst. Except that our Paul also appears to have a little of the never-believing-he's-made-a-mistake quality, too; compounding things still further.

They've got two big lads up top.  Jon Shaw has been round the houses, but is a pretty tough old nut and a good target man at this level.  Bowman, the young lad has scored a few.  I hope we don't concede any daft free kicks in dangerous areas.

Just got in from work and turned on the commentary on line as can't be there tonight as I would not have been able to make the journey.

Am amazed that Bogle and Podge are on the bench FFS!!! At least one of them should have started with JP as a minimum. Buckley has just commented that Lenny is a better player than Tomlinson, what does that tell us.

Sounds like Town are in charge but not testing their keeper is that about right.

From what I can tell so far was their goal a mistake by Macca?

Really good first half performance but need to make dominance count in second half. Arnold and East doing very well and Gowling totally dominant. Strikers the disappointment, particularly Tomlinson who looks no threat whatsoever to me. How he is keeping out Amond or Bogle I just don't know. Gateshead's defence looks fragile and you'd really fancy both of these to score,

Now I know your a troll.  Seriously Macca is by far the best keeper in this league and you would replace him, get a grip. This season alone he's made some wonder saves that without would have cost us games.  Did you not see his save against Tranmere ? Against FGR he made a great save low down to his right, any other keeper would have been happy just to make the save and palm back into play, Macca saw the danger and hung onto it before their player could get his foot in.

on about 80 minutes he will finally take Monkhouse off for Mashall and Finally take Tomlinson off for Amond in a double sub so the fans are unable to boo Tomlinson as they wanted to at the FGR match.

Well, Gateshead have got to come out of their shell if they want to get something out of this game.
Sensible game management is required; by that I don't mean defend and sit deeper and deeper - that only ends in despair.  I hope we make some intelligent substitutions soon and go for the kill; pick them off with pace on the counter.  Their defence sounds very suspect and they've not offered a lot upfront.

Could do with another goal fairly sharpish. And now is a great time to introduce some fresh attacking legs but I bet he doesn't for at least another ten minutes.

Some unbelievable comments on this thread but that has to get the prize for the most ridiculous. What makes you think you can speak for everyone on here?

Good to hear the fans at the game applauding players off at half time and when players get substituted. Glad that some of the negative posters on here never seem to go.

To be fair Buckley has pointed out the 'good and bad' of Tommo, and labelled him a poor man's version of another runaround striker who isn't prolific...

Which in all honesty is exactly what I thought of him when he was at Lincoln. A bit of a nuisance but no subtlety to his game and not much in the way of quality. A decent option to have in the squad for certain games but he should not be starting ahead of either of the scorned two.

I appreciate we all want and expect the strikers to be scoring but at the same time it sounds like he puts in a proper shift and working hard for the team

Sounds a bit like when Lee Nogan played for Buckley - not prolific either but kept getting a game and probably deservedly so

At that time did we have two strikers on the bench both with a goal ratio of better than one goal every two games?

3835 here, crowds dropping fast.

2-1 win against a team who've been doing really well on their travels

Will Hurst get any credit for bringing Arnold back in tonight with his match winning performance?

He could have chosen to leave Makreth in the starting line up so credit where it's due for his selection?

Absolutely. Credit to PH for bringing him back in and credit to Nathan, absolutely made up for the lad, dream return after one of the hardest weeks or so that he'll ever have.

If those abusing PH for his team selection are really town fans (which I doubt) then they need to have a good look at themselves.

Yep true.

Christ give it a rest.

My point still stands, you start your top scorers. Today is a good result but I won't be naive enough to believe Hurst has turned a corner. It shows we've got a good squad, do I believe that starting 11 would win us the league? No I do not.

Do I believe we're in grave danger of alienating two very very good strikers? Absolutely.

Really, have you seen some of the comments on this thread? The personal criticism of the manager before and during a game in which we played well is ridiculous. People seem to enjoy telling everyone how much they dislike Hurst more than they do us winning. Just my opinion but there's plenty of evidence on this thread to back it up.

This, coming on an match thread used to a pleasure but it ruined by the same boring few who have a hurst out agenda before a ball is kicked, I dont agree with everything Hurst does but only manage to watch us every few weeks and he is there every day.

By all means discuss the game and criticise selection and players if we lose but some of the comments tonight are ridiculous, people suggesting Hurst is even the slightest bit bothered what anyone on here thinks the team should be should get a grip.

The Hurst out sheep should get a new hobby

The second post on this thread calls him a clown. There's another which says 'only an idiot would leave his top scorers on the bench.' I'd say that's personal abuse myself. Not the worst but totally unnecessary .

There's also a post after we'd just scored our second saying that it's just papering over the cracks and he'll be out by Xmas. Hard to believe that is the reaction of a true town fan to a goal.

Great result against a bogey team with a good away record. A few weeks ago people saying we had only played rubbish teams. We have now played 4 of the teams currently above us and we have won 2 drawn 2.  Hurst seems to have changed tactics and tightened up a bit against the better teams and we have conceded less and have been getting decent results. This would suggest he knows what he is doing.

But I also feel he was flying by the seat of his pants with his forward line. He has the result tonight and we are all pleased about that, but surely it is time to release the hounds and get podge and Omar back on the pitch?

Just think of the effect it has on the rest of the division - 4 points against two arguably good teams, with our best two on the bench. That's got to be sending out a message of some kind (make of it what you will on either side of the fence..)

I've just worked out why Fat Cobra wants to sell his season ticket, He got wet through tonight in the lower Findus and wants the money to put towards one in the upper.  I bet the price of £65 has gone up now we won. I think next time I get bored at a game I'll count the fans in the pontoon, sure beats counting the boats in the humber. No ! I think I would have gone home instead. ;)
Enjoyable game tonight, everyone put in a good shift and I don't understand all the sh!t towards Tomlinson,he had a good game and was unlucky not to get on the score sheet, perhaps trying to hard.
