I never want Town to lose but I can raise no appetite for this game. I'm pottering about doing odd jobs, wishing we were playing a league game. Doesn't take much to knock Town out of any momentum and this could do the same. Barmy that this thing takes precedence over he League imo.

For me the disappointment is a bunch of players given their chance who can't muster up a decent performance.  This completion could have been a way to keep our reserves match fit.

Alex jones off for Mackreth,  Josh Venney for Tait. 3-1-4-2 formation

Much as this competition massively disruptive in latter stages can't bring myself to wish defeat on us. Could be useful for the fringe players, say to them 'right if you progress us you play' -right to the final

Play a similar team for the replay and i don't mind.

Average game, Henderson looks ok, some good vision, and i think him with Amond on the pitch could work well.

Venney come on and looked comfortable and got MOTM

Posted by: Hagrid, December 12, 2015, 5:14pm; Reply: 74
People seriously blaming hurst?!?! My god. He put out a reserve team today and with the exception of 3 they were all excrement, replay doesnt bother me because none of those playing today will be anywhere near starting 11 anytime soon. Only robertson brown macreth and 2 CBs with any credit today. Marshall was another level of useless
Posted by: chaos33, December 12, 2015, 5:14pm; Reply: 75
Worst possible result, so not happy, but folk can't really blame Hurst. He did the right thing with his selection, and the players failed to make their overall superior quality count. Several who haven't been in the team have squandered their chance to shine, in the case of players like Marcus Marshall, not entirely unpredictably. Marshall has produced less than Mackreth all season, yet Jack is evidently available for loan.

If we play the 'squad' correctly then I'm not too fussed about it all

My concern though is McKeown being played again.

Surely we could use Warrington there because all it needs is one mishap and we run the risk of losing our last line of defence at one of the busiest times of the season :-/
Posted by: chaos33, December 12, 2015, 5:20pm; Reply: 77
Good point, with little chance of getting in a loan keeper over the Christmas period at short notice. Hurst not noted for his Keeper concerns though.

So if Hurst played the first team he would of got slated, he changed it fully, so for me, i see it extra game time for the fringe players
Posted by: Rik e B, December 12, 2015, 5:30pm; Reply: 79
I'm with Jarmo, Hurst seems to have learnt a lesson not to flog the first eleven to death indefinately so another chance for the fringe boys to get a run out and hopefully redeem themselves.

Every possible reserve should go and play. PH should stay at home and let Doig take the team, Macca should be rested, even the coach driver should have a night off,

I think the first two rounds are earmarked as priority for the FAT Chris so we're all in the same boat more or less

It would be the later stages where we might find ourselves caught up with having to rearrange Ssturday league matches

Hurst did the correct thing regarding team selection today apart from Warrington in goal, this team with a few exceptions can be the FA Trophy team, it showed today that a lack of match practise from those who cared blunted their sharpness and accurate passing ability,  so to get a game any game is a bonus for them and the club

OK,fair enough. But suppose we win. Then what do we do next round? Same again? Or will the temptation of Wemberlee start to creep in and we put a few first teamers in? Personally I'd just rather we left it to Solihull to win the thing and let our players and the manager concentrate on what matters - going up.
Posted by: HackneyHaddock, December 12, 2015, 7:23pm; Reply: 91
Same team for the replay, only with Warrington in goal.  Don't need to be risking players in a meaningless night match on a heavy pitch four days before an important away league game.

Solihull are no pushovers though and these boys not had much game time together, if they could win the replay then get their run outs in competetive games it could help them hit the ground running if called upon to step in in League games. Maybe

Wembley temptation or not. Let the fringe players know THEY will play for as long as we are in the competition. It means the first team still get rested. and motivates the fringe players as well.  Personally I wouldn't mind going out of the competition purely to avoid a fixture backlog.

I understand were people are coming from saying we played the reserves so it's no problem. That is true this round and next when saturdays are reserved for the trophy, but if we win those we risk real damage to our league season due to games being postponed and a backlog building up. I don't think it was coincidence that last season we got knocked out early and had no postponements and we had our best season in the league since dropping down here.
Can't blame Hurst cos he played the reserves and they got useful game time but I would still have preferred a defeat tbh
