Hope this post is ok - if Rob is reading hope you'll leave this on.

Long story short..I want to do something worthwhile for charity. Having mulled it over, and bearing in mind been inspired for years by Ian Botham,  and seeing Jeff Stelling doing his bit  - Ive plumped for a walk raising money for charities such as the Makeawish foundation, Breast Cancer and Heart Research. The idea being to involve people/sponsors from all the club involved - with the emphasis being on Grimsby T FC supporters at the forefront of it all, organising, participating, fundraising, promoting.

I myself am middle aged, and want to make a difference - this is my way. The charities are chosen because of a) personal/family experience and b) MakeaWish terminally ill children that a lady based in Grimsby does an amazing job with.  I have relayed the idea to Mariners Trust, and the charities - and we have a meeting planned early March - basically Im looking for everything - help, participants for any of the days or more, people who can help promote by organising website, fundraising, social media, medical supplies, drinks, food, route planning and safety/escort along the way.

I have roughly devised what I have in mind...a 255 mile route over around 2 weeks. (Can be looked at with more help) - this covers all clubs Yorkshire/Humberside etc. Im prepared to undertake this challenge around/between end July and end August. BUT I really need it to be worthwhile, big sacrifice on my part as a full time single parent...but something I really want to happen.

To happen I need help in every way, and literally from now onwards. So this is an appeal to anyone..either individuals, fans, businesses, anyone...for help in every single way to make this happen. If this does strike a chord with anyone, please feel free to get in touch via here, or PM, or please spread the post, the word/idea to as many as possible.

We raised 100k for the club last year and got good publicity. This is another way of getting the Town noticed for a good reason and doing some good.

Thanks for reading and hope to make this happen/hear from some of you soon.

Thats the plan. Next step is organising fund raising page, Facebook page, media interest as well as contacting all aforementioned clubs to promote and get people to join in. Also drinks, route plans, food, accomodation, interest, promotion, supplies, clothing, t-shirts etc etc.

Decided to go with Football Fans Charity Walk in hope of more people contributing, clubs/fans coming together to raise as much as possible in joint efforts. Going to also try to see if can get ex players or anyone known in whichever area to join in and help promote.

So..thats where I am at the moment. Anyone feel like assisting/joining/planning/participating/promoting/website etc please feel free to contact me - via here, or jaseives@virginmedia.com, or 07758 307346. And Facebook/twitter etc - and Rutland Arms pre home games, Pontoon P83 at games. Cheers ;)

Cheers mate, much appreciated. Just in process of thoughts at moment, but will be contacting all clubs etc mentioned to see if can make it a collective effort/participants and help come together and worthwhile. Also local area News programmes etc.

Then hopefully find a way forward to get it going- though I'm prepared to do it anyway. Couple of people expressed an interest - ideally someone from GTFC might like to step forward and help get this started. Would be a great way for the club/fans to be at forefront/instigate a collective club effort.

If anyone can put a detailed route and plan together (better than my rough draft) that is manageable could they please get in touch? Got the Telegraph contacting me this week covering the idea, and therefore need to start putting things in place. Thanks to those who've messaged re idea/helping - appreciated, any ideas etc please share. Plus if anyone is good with putting together a fundraising/web page etc I could use some help also. Cheers ;)

From your route I broken it down using AA router to get the mileage (starting and finishing from the named football clubs, avoiding motorways) per stage.
31st July - 1st Aug York To Leeds  approx 29.3 miles (overnight stay halfway)
2nd Aug  Leeds to Bradford approx 10.5 miles
3rd Aug Bradford to Halifax approx 10.1 miles
3rd Aug Halifax to Huddersfield approx 8.0 miles
4th Aug Huddersfield to Barnsley approx 18.2 miles
4th Aug Barnsley to Rotherham approx 12.0 miles
5th Aug Rotherham to Sheff Wed approx 7.7 miles
5th Aug Sheff Wed to Sheff Utd approx 4.3 miles
6th Aug Sheff Utd to Chesterfield approx 9.7 miles
7th Aug Chesterfield to Mansfield approx 16.1 miles
8th Aug Mansfield to Notts Forest aprrox 15.1 miles
8th Aug Notts Forest to Notts County approx 0.6 miles
Travel to Lincoln overnight stay
9th & 10th Aug Lincoln to Doncaster Rovers approx 38.6 (overnight stay halfway)
11th & 12th Aug Doncaster Rovers to Scunthorpe Utd approx 24.3 miles (overnight stay halfway)
Travel to Hull
13th & 14th Aug Hull City to Grimsby Town approx 30.6 miles

** Note - 4th Aug mileage is 30.2 miles in one day, IS THAT CORRECT **
Average walking speed is approx 3.1mph depending on the terrain, weather conditions etc

Total mileage 235.1

Overnight stays
31st July halfway between York & Leeds
1st Aug Leeds
2nd Aug Bradford
3rd Aug Huddersfield
4th Aug Rotherham
5th Aug Sheffield
6th Aug Chesterfield
7th Aug Mansfield
8th Aug Lincoln
9th & 10th Aug halfway between Lincoln & Doncaster
11th & 12th Aug halfway between Doncaster & Scunthorpe
13th Hull

Things to consider before you start :-

It is advised that you drive/walk the whole route to get an idea of the terrain
How much traffic travels along the route
Adequate pedestrian lanes/safe distance from traffic
Toilet facilities along the route
Find out whether any planned roadworks or any other events scheduled on the route
If you require any permission to use any of the planned route (local bye-laws)
May need to speak to local councils highway agency
Speak to local police force - giving dates, route, approx size of party etc
Liability insurance cover - medical/damage to land & surrounding property etc.

Then you need to get on with the actual logistics

Decided to put this off for now, too much to organise etc on my own, and little interest from those I hoped might see the potential. May try again next year if supported, thanks to the couple of people who offered-appreciated.
