Nolan is looking like a great signing.

Does the simple things well, a real good creative passing player that takes the opportunity to exploit the space. Has a great shot too. Being in there with an experienced Disley is also benefitting him and he seems to be getting stuck in to do the central ball winning now.

Wrexham and Lincoln's loss I would say.

His signing upset the whingers,

I've saw him on 3 occasions against us, seemed poor all the time. I was pessimistic when his name was announced but he seems to be scoring the goals from midfield currently. Let's keep this roll going and see how much pressure we can apply.

I've not seen him play yet but he's rubbish. I will spend 90 minutes on Saturday screaming for Clay to be brought on. I've not even credited him with that goal last night. In my mind it was a clearance that he sliced. How dare he sign for us and then expect to play. And he can stop that box to box nonsense too. Idiotic signing. In fact I've just remembered that I can't watch him on Saturday, because on reading that he'd signed for us, I put my foot through my season ticket and sent John Fenty the bill.

Pleased that he's made a good start but gotta feel a tad sorry for Clay. Still Nolan has come in and scored 2 goals already, something which Clay lacks in his game. Maybe this will really spur him on a bit.

This sums up the fishy IMO.

Hurst got shot down straight away for signing him, he is slowly firming his place in the starting 11, nearly scored against Gateshead and did score last night.

Ill admit i was slightly disappointed when we signed him, but how often have we shot Hurst down and been wrong !

Really liked the look of him last night. Composed on the ball, can pass well with both feet, creative and seems to read the game well. great finish, too. He had a half chance before that, too if i recall, when he ran into the box and had a few changes to shoot but opted to pass in the end.

3 games, 2 goals and an assist(?). great start, keep it up Jon!

Not by everyone. I've never understood why Clay gets so much praise because he is average. Not a bad player but not creative enough for the heart of the team. I've only seen Nolan once and that was against poor opposition but he is quick thinking and makes things happen. Clay is going to have a hard time getting back in the team. Some say they feel sorry for Clay but if you don't better your players as you go along, you stand still.

Agreed. As much as Clay has some good games, generally he isn't a fast enough thinker and slow's play down too much against teams who are happy to sit back and scrap for a point. Certainly a good player to have in a squad but with Disley less able to get forward than previous years we need someone better than Clay at attacking and moving the ball around with speed.

PH clearly has belief in Nolan, having tracked him for a while and knows how to play him to get the best out his talents. Maybe a natural successor for Diz.

Idon't give a flying f *** what colour hair he's got, if he can score a few vital goals that help us get out of here he is a hero in my eyes. :) :)

I was sceptical about Nolan and thought he would be another back up but to be fair, the lad has started off well, better than I expected and better than some signings have in recent times.

Probably Clay will be back when Disley is suspended and it will be interesting to see how he does alongside Nolan.

Players do lose form and it's important to keep the team on its game while they get it back, perhaps Nolan will be just the spark we need in that respect.

Hopefully one of Disley's 2 games is a trophy match anyway.

At least the competition might be good for one thing then ;)

Does Henderson not stand a chance here? guessing if nolan can play a more holding role then if henderson play more forward then surely this is were his talent lies? Was Wenger wrong and he is tripe? doubt it.

Were there that many. I think most of the negative comments came from the fans of clubs he had played at.

Didn't make last night's game but of the games I have seen him play including one at Stockport I have been impressed, but let's not get carried away just yet he hasn't even played a handful of games yet.

But already scored one less than Clay, got assists and man of the match.....what's not to like?

Don't get me wrong, I think Clay is a good player, but not consistent enough for me. Been the weak spot in the team this year has the centre midfield, we seem to get overrun in a lot of games and maybe things might change in that area now.

Just found out Nolan is a ginger, and I was immediately sick in my mouth.

I wasn't overly impressed when he signed but he seems better than Clay and is scoring, and the flag of Switzerland is a big plus.

When was the last time we had TWO gingers in midfield ?

I find it difficult to remember ONE since seeing Ginger Hall play.

I am appalled at the lack of intervention by the mods with the blatant gingerphobia being expressed on these pages.

He seems to be the spark we've missed in midfield. For me Clay is prone to give the ball away in dangerous situations and Nolan seems more positive with his passing. Or at least quicker on the uptake than Clay. Gives us another attacking option.

I'm yet to be sold on Henderson.

Against lesser opposition he has really failed to stamp his authority on any game. The game against Weston-Super-Mare he showed exactly what he can do, a very tidy finish for his goal and a superb long range pass for Bogle's goal.  Problem is for the other 89 minutes he was virtually anonymous.

Technically he is clearly of a pedigree.  He moves the ball very nicely and has a wand of a left foot.  That said every time I've seen him play he has lot the game completely bypass him for large parts.  When he signed I hoped he would be an option to unlock defences when teams come and park the bus in front of goal, in all truth I've not seen he's the ability to come in and grab games by the scruff of the neck.  This is against teams where I would really expect him to stand out a country mile too.

On Saturday, albeit in shocking conditions, he was given that 'quarter-back' role where he could dictate play from the base of midfield.  All I saw him do was argue with Bogle over who slammed a free-kick miles over.

Nolan on the other hand has come in and is looking for the ball, wanting to make things happen straight away rather than let the play come to him every time.

Henderson looks like the archetypal Arsenal midfielder (but a bit less capable, obviously) - skilful, but lightweight and prone to having the game pass him by when the opposition take an up and at 'em approach. Probably not going to be an improvement compared to what we've got, though I'd be happy to be proved wrong.

It's all very well saying that Wenger played him once (v Leyton Orient), but there must be a reason why he's got more years than league starts.

i too thought he had an excellent game on Tuesday, great goal but more importantly he worked hard and put himself about a lot.

Think Henderson would only be useful in games like the Guiseley home match, where defending was hardly required and we needed someone to create something. Don't think he's cut out for the rough and tumble of the National League, though he clearly has talent.

Midfield has been the weak spot in the team for the last 5 years. The heartbeat of the team that PH seems to think can be made stronger by signing, average at best, players. All I ever seem to hear is 'we need a fourth striker' or 'we need a new left back. Actually we need two or maybe even three good quality midfielders. Of those we have or have had in the last five years, only Disley has been anywhere near the required standard.

He was the only player who impressed me today tbh he looked eager to get the ball down and go forward with it, just a shame no one else wanted to

The lad has scored we both feet in his two goals

And is a creative player in midfield with a calm head

There isn't many in this league like that he might not win the tackles but give him the ball

Lincoln clearly are not a team with a midfielders just lads with neck aches watching the ball go over them

So he never would have shone in that side as not many mid players would

He looks like a good player, but during today's game he must have felt like he was back at Lincoln with the ball up in the sky so much.

I agree with Tait being man of the match though, the guy he marked could have ripped a lesser right back to shreds.

I was at the match and must say I was as disappointed in Nolan as the other 10.

Nolan, Norwood and Straker were very ordinary.

I am not blaming them, but they are just squad players added to boost numbers; what we really needed was one, perhaps two quality signings to make a good team even better.

I am not ruling out success in the play offs if we make them because we all know we can play very well at times, but I am a bit deflated due to the top two pulling away and our lack of quality signings to give us a better chance.

What is holding us back? Is it money or the right men not available. Who knows?

I gave Arnold jip when he came back because didn't think he was any good first time around and yes I was wrong there because I like the blokes football and attitude now.

Fair enough. It's not so much man love, i just think he brings more to the table than Clay but neither are the non league Messi and as Lew says, we need some real quality to take us to the next level. I agree on Tait and i think he has been one of our best signings and i still can't understand why Hurst left him out for a while earlier in the season but then Hurst does a lot that i can't fathom.
