After starting the Dover match thread, I thought I'd start this one tonight hoping for the same forceful opinions and debate.

I'll start it off by saying Hurst will pick Amond and Bogle up front and justify the dropping of Amond last week if we win  and if we lose, he'll  justify it anyway

As long as we don't have you using that to justify you wanting Magnay as manager.

Yep, thats the team they announced on Humberside.

Listening in from overseas so my only real choice is to listen via Humberside but, and maybe its just me, but I really cannot abide Simon Clarke - he's like an unfunny Alan Partridge and talks some rubbish.

But what really irks me is his lack of respect to George Kerr.  He is so condescending towards him its unbelievable.

Anyways, so nervous for tonights game and hoping we can snap out of the performances we've had the last few games.  Desperate for Podge to grab a couple and haul himself back up to the top of the scoring charts.

Come on Town!!!!

Finally, Amond & Bogle start together again. That line up just goes to show how Arnold stays in the side without playing particularly well, because we're desperately desperately short on the wings.

My thoughts exactly Hagrid - I saw what PontoonLew had said about desperately short on the wings but I think part of that is PH doesnt seem to have confidence in those guys even though I don't think they've done too bad.  Also I thought Marshall was available too?  Not saying hes right but can only think he's maybe seeing some sort of threat down their left hand side and trying to nullify it.

All this interplay between Bogle and Amond is wonderful to listen to. It's crazy that Hurst has broken up their partnership so often this season - they both bring the best out of each other and I don't know how he doesn't see that.
Posted by: pontoonlew, April 19, 2016, 8:19pm; Reply: 40
No surprise to see the partnership 99% of people who watch this side know are our strongest pair, tearing them apart.

Also, I like this commentator, he makes it sound like we're likely to score. Unlike JT who makes you feel like doomsday is imminent.
Posted by: Rik e B, April 19, 2016, 8:21pm; Reply: 41
A sensible team, East himself says he doesn't call himself just a right back, Bogle sounds unplayable almost, Podge on scoresheet....

Got to be Podge and Bogle all the way to final then things might well be looking up.
Posted by: Maringer, April 19, 2016, 8:25pm; Reply: 42
I think the problem is that when Bogle is on form, he's a real threat, but when he's out of form, he does absolutely nothing. An all or nothing player.

That's not to say that he wouldn't have played well more often if he had started more frequently, of course. I think the initial poor run of form for the team when Bogle started led Hurst to lose faith in him.

No real choice but to play him now and hope for the best! A few goals over the next month could well help to pay back that transfer fee...

Let us not get carried away with this scoreline.
Woking are a poor side and we certainly ought to beat them.
It's against teams like Cheltenham, Braintree and Eastleigh we have struggled and that is
something to be concerned about.
However 3 points against anyone would be very welcome tonight!

Does Hurst have a cunning plan regarding playing Podge?

Leaves him out of the team for Dover away in the league, so that he is a secret weapon for the play-offs, probably against the same team.

I thought 'what a load of balderdash' .... I still think what a load of balderdash.. should have started and we could have had 6 pts from 6. Im sure hurst will try to claim the credit!

It's ALL about goals now, and Podge knows that, everyone else needs to weigh in with every ounce of effort for the run-in and get up a head of steam for a 5 match winning streak.

Ressies at Tranmere? Well yes he did rest players last game last season though I'd like us really clicking as a unit and on a roll. Guess it the wise option though, especially the likes of Disley and would get the likes of Pearson and Pittman bit fresher in case needed to be called upon.

There might be a few ranting Grimbarians with dollar signs in their eyes if Podge is rested mind....

I've only ever flipped out proper when he is dropped, I wonder if top goalscorer bet has made me quicker on the draw to have a rant  :B

Great result against the team that beat FGR on Saturday, though it's possible FGR are going through the motions as they are already in the play offs and are saving themselves.

Just beat Chester and it's job done, In fact a point would be enough baring a 25 goal turnaround. Then rest all the key players against Tranmere and go into the playoff tie with Dover (probably) fresh. Doesn't look like Tranmere are going to make into the playoffs this year.

I just hope Hurst isn't stupid enough to break up Paddy and Bogle in the playoff matches............

I am sure we will.

It's going to go to the wire between Braintree and Eastleigh for 5th place, and I'd expect FGR to despatch either of them.

I'd say a FGR v Town final is looking likely, but on the other hand remember when Kiddiminster blew up in the semi's when finishing streets ahead of the pack?

Hopefully Village Green will be hit with 'missing out on title' depression and will mope into playoffs with heads down and in so be quickly despatched.

We've had our out-the-title blues and let's hope we shook ourselves out of the depression and awake to the golden opportunity before us.

I'll tell you one thing, the other semi will be hoping that it's not us they facing in final.

But first things first, 100% confirm place on Saturday!

That is very strange. I wonder what is going on there?

Interesting matches on Saturday......

Eastleigh v Tranmere
Wrexham v Braintree

If Tranmere beat Eastleigh they go above them on goal difference. If Braintree lose at Wrexham, then Braintree, Tranmere and Eastliegh could all be on 75 points with Tranmere 5th on goal difference!

Not quite over for Tranmere yet.

I reckon Tranmere would be the most dangerous in the play-offs, they have the best away form in the entire league for the last 10 games.  Home form is average, hit and miss.

Another one obsessed with Tranmere. What's so good about them?

They're not likely to get even get in the play offs, and if they do, they will more than likely be dispatched by VGR.

I'm all for respecting everyone's opinions but there have been scores of people on here expressing their fear of facing Tranmere. I don't see it. Balls to them. They're not that good. If they were they wouldn't be sat outside the top five hoping for a miracle. We can beat them. We can beat any of our play off rivals. We need to believe we can be winners.

Not really, I just look at stats - I would class the Wembley game as an away day, and with them having the best away form, I would say they have the best chance IF they were to get through.

Cobblers,

The play offs are two 'one off games' at the semi stage, and the league table is the best overall indication of their strengths and weaknesses. There are two legs, and Tranmere's home form is very average.

People are obsessing about them because we have history. This fearful thinking won't do us any good if we do end up playing them, which, as I've said, doesn't look likely.

I don't think we should be talking and thinking in terms of 'fears' relating to playing anyone - in this case Tranmere. It's unhelpful. We need to start thinking and acting like winners. They are no bigger or better than us. In fact, the league table says they're not as good and they don't even look likely to make the play offs at this stage.
Positive thinking!

Absolutely... we shouldnt fear anyone up there. If we play to our strengths and play the right system that suits our best players,  we SHOULD beat the other play off contenders over 2 legs.

'A week is a long time in football', 'you're only as good as your last game', 'football supporters are a fickle bunch' etc etc.

Fact is it looked like we were rocking, out of form and the inconceivable -not making the playoffs looked possible. Now we nailed on for playoffs with a good performance to match the win with two devasting strikers. Hardly surprising the angst turning to elation.

Let's build on this, if we can play near our best nobody can stop us barring a major slice of luck or injustice.

Regarding the Tranmere discussion, I'm surprised they haven't cemented a place in the play-offs, though this is based mostly in what I saw in the draw at BP. In that, they looked to have a strong defence and lots of pace in midfield, without much of a threat from their forwards.

It's the pace in midfield which would worry me as this is one thing we struggle to deal with.

Thst said, both Dover and Braintree are resolute and hard to break down so that's something we also struggle against!

Ultimately, it's up to us to put in the performances required whoever we face though they will be tough games. I'm just worried that we'll get another 'special' refereeing decision or two go against us in these games as we've seen so often in the past.

It's not so much that, it's more that we'll be inhibited if we're fearful of playing any one team in the play offs, presuming we are going to get there.
On that performance last night, there won't be one team that wants to play us, and that includes the 'mighty' Tranmere. We need to uphold that standard and capitalise on other teams' potential fear of us.

Imagine your Tranmere fan needing a miracle and knowing that their last game of the season is against us, and they need to win, (and that's IF they beat Eastleigh away on Saturday).

I don't really give a toss who we may get in the final, and if it was Tranmere I would be euphoric as it means we were there and that is all that counts. All this if we put the right team out, if we play to our best, and the worse one, if bad refereeing doesn't cost us I feel is largely subjective nonsense in as much as I guarantee every other of the four play off contenders will be saying the same, and rightly so.

The league table doesn't lie, over 46 games we have been the third best team, but I further suggest that will count for little, because it will surely be as much about resolve, the run of the ball, which direction a deflection travels, who holds their nerve, in short as it has been described many times the play off's are indeed a lottery and like all lotteries only those who buy a ticket can dream of winning it.

Thankfully our 46 match form has deservedly bought us one of just four golden tickets available and now we are largely in the hands of the footballing Gods

Will it be our year?

God we hope so and we can wave this bloody league good bye....can't wait, whoever we play

Tranmere just don't have anyone aside from Norwood who can stick the ball in the net on a regular basis. He's their top scorer with 18, but aside from him they don't have anyone in the squad who's scored more than 4 goals this season.

Absolutely agree with this 100%. We drew with Tranmere here during our dodgy September run. Since then we've improved enough to be requiring one point from two games to make the play-offs. They haven't. We certainly shouldn't fear them.
