I think Hoban is injured as well. Hopefully his and Gowling's are just minor knocks and they'll be fit for the play-offs.

Playing two of the leagues leading scorers up front together?? He's nuts that hurst, absolutely barking mad. Next He will be telling us that winning matches is more important than keeping a clean sheet and maintaining 'us shape'

Check the league table, if Eastleigh draw, as they are doing at the moment, they will have 76 points with one game left, if we lose, we will still have 80 points with one game left, do the math!

I don't disagree with that, I'd much rather we'd cruised through with a 4-0 win. But the hysteria on here just now was hilarious, at no point today were we in danger of falling out the play offs and the Tranmere goal confirmed us as being in them. Yet some on here were acting like we'd just blown any chance of making it. Couldn't make it up.

Braintree look sure to grab a play off place after today's win. They play Altringham next week.

We should rest a few players next week, so I expect we will lose at Tranmere. We might then finish 5th and be playing FGR in the play off semi. As they seem to be in worse form than us at the moment that might not be a bad thing.

Limping into them then? That was a horrible 2nd half, as wayward and weak as anything we've had this season. 1 game left this season and we still haven't figured out how to beat these teams, specially in pressure games. Other than dropping Podge for a game then bringing him back but that's not really feasible long term.
Bit worried, still not doing the business regularly.

Not so. If Eastleigh had scored instead of Tranmere we would be in huge danger of not making it.

Anyway, irrelevant now. We need three good performances to go up.

It seems churlish to be critical on the day we clinch a play off place, but here was a 'must win' game against a very poor side. We failed.  It's only thanks to Tranmere beating a team that we couldn't even when they played half the game with ten men that we made it.

Not really a confidence booster is it.

That's an if though, just like saying if we'd snatched an equaliser we'd have been definitely in. At no point were the scores today making it likely we wouldn't get in to the play offs.

As you say, I don't think there's any positive spin to put on today. A third poor home performance in a row is very worrying.
We've made it based on 45 games though, not because Tranmere won. During the regular season we've got the better of VGR & Dover so we do have it in us.

I'm fuming with Hurst. All Grimsby had to do was win today and third place would now be certain (all but mathematically).
Now, unless Hurst goes for it next week which is highly unlikely against a motivated Tranmere, Grimsby will finish fourth or even fifth. That entails playing away in the second-leg, but much more importantly it means no return for those foolish enough to back Grimsby each-way ante-post.
HURST OUT!

I feel your pain. I wouldn't overestimate Tranmere though. Braintree only need to avoid defeat at home to Alty to keep Tranmere out of it. I expect Braintree to win comfortably so Tranny may not be the highly motivated, fight-to-the-death team you fear if news of a couple of early goals comes through.

I think the most worrying thing is that the manager's best team played today and lost - the bench had little to improve the chances of winning.

The sad thing is that second place was there for the taking over the last few weeks.

We will finish with fewer points than last season, and probably a lower finishing position. Not really progress is it?

Still, we are in the play offs. Three good performances is all that is required and let's face it, the other play off contenders are hardly world beaters either.

It's now in our hands.

I hope that was the cause for it. I was surprised at how the noises coming from the club after the Woking win was a very calm 'job done' type reaction as if we had already qualified. I suppose they've been proved right (or got away with it anyway).

I am so glad I have missed the last few Grimsby Town matches! Sounds absolutely shocking what is going on at the moment. Half our season's matches lost in the last 9 matches! :D

Must admit without Conner Townsend we have looked second rate yes he was that important.

Actually if that was guaranteed to work, ie drop one game then scores a hattrick the next it really should guarantee us promotion if dropped for the Tranny game ;D

Tranmere will be in the last 5 and we will be fourth. That is not good! I predict Tranmere v Dover final. I have my ticket so I will go. I will support Dover!
Hopefully it'll be Grimsby v Tranmere though and we can muster some sort of miracle!

Are you serious?

Braintree need a point at home to Altrincham to make Tranmere's result against us utterly inconsequential.

Apart from the Woking result we aren't really the form team .  Forest solar panel fc have rested players , Dover and Braintree on paper have over achieved , they do what they do well and have got results .  The lottery of the play off's now awaits .

Altrincham won 5-0 today and are fighting for survival. They will be going for it hammer and tongs!
Braintree will be nervous!

We will probably just be excrement - as usual !

Yes, it's a plan...miss Tranny, score a hat trick(at least!) in the play-off 1st leg, skip the 2nd leg, then hat trick at Wembley.
If there's a better plan I'd like to hear it(tongue_smilie)

They beat Welling though, who are mince.

If Tranmere are in the play off final I'll eat my hat.
