I would give Warrington a game in goal for a start, don't risk a stupid injury or red card for Macca

Common sense he would rest key players, I hope Venney plays in midfield alongside Clay, these players should be out to prove a point regarding play offs and next season

Just watching the BT game and they interviewed the Tranmere Manager and ran their side at the bottom of the picture, they did not bother to show ours???

Maybe they got the "Fcuk BT Sport" message after all.

You never know, we could still win. There's no pressure on our boys, all they can do is play and try to impress the manager but they've got nothing to lose. Whereas Tranmere have everything to lose, the pressure might just get to them.

You live and die by your sword and we walking into the lions den. I pray we not smashed then the first team struggle to pick up the performance with a pretty downbeat vibe all the while Tranmere storm in on the crest of a wave 35,0000 fans going beserk bouncing all over the place at Wembley.

Worst case scenario but possible. Looking at the last three playoff campaigns by us I'd much rather we at home send leg!

And Tranmere nowhere in sight so we the big boys.

Shame its probably meaningless for them.

Marshel can only make the bench so that spells doom for him.

We can do this, I am not sure why loads of people on here have bigged Tranmere up on here. Big club yes, but they are where they are in the league for a reason.

Shame he could not have rested Tait to be honest, maybe gone with a 3 at the back or something.

Given the last 3 home games, maybe the pressure of playing at home second has lost its advantage?

We might not " win after an away draw" or "not pull back a narrow away defeat".

Not sure why this has 2 red crosses and 1 tick as it's a fact. I am not that sure what impact the first leg away or at home makes TBH as it's about turning up on the day. Also in theory you have to beat 2 decent teams to go up.

What I am more concerned about is that this season I can't remember this Town team "turning up" for 3 games in a row since we had a good October.

This gets red crosses!

I'm stunned that some Grimsby Town fans think it's acceptable for us, a full time club, finishing anywhere near Braintree or Dover, let alone below them. What standards are those fans setting themselves for our club. We haven't even won half our games this season. Not even as good a record of say beating every part-time team and losing to all the full-time teams. I'm pretty disgusted myself.

Just looking at the table we have only taken 6 points from 5 of the bottom 12 teams this season. Get Venny, Omar and Clifton on.

So it's the fans fault?  ;)

I just cant see why going into the playoffs its going to be any different this time.

We are a supposed better team according to a few but we have one common denominator as a whole and i just cant see how we are going to do it !

Im not trying to be negative here just looking at things realisticly.

Oh come on, this is basically a reserve team. If we are promoted back to the football league in 15 days from now, this game won't matter a jot, whatever the result. I wonder what people would be saying if Hurst had played a full strength team today and Amond or Disley or the goalkeeper or Gowling had got injured or sent off? There's a big picture here, folks, and Paul Hurst is staking his job on it.

Remember when wigan won the fa cup but got relegated....
Well fast forward the fa trophy... Grimsby v Halifax ....
Halifax will play that game knowing they are going down, i feel it will be a case of us winning the play off final the week before and losing the fat !
That works for me as we will be on the start of a journey to where we belong .... Up the leagues, with the added benefit of not having to be associated with our name on the fat trophy.

At the start of the season I don't think many of us would consider 4th place on 80 points a success. Both worse than last season.
But anyway, we are in the play offs.

We need to score first. Braintree will park two busses unless they have to come forward. But let's face it, they are not world beaters.

We just need to have a good night for once.

The Braintree players going mad celebrating being in the play-offs for the first time.

They were jumping up and down in the dressing room and are now doing a lap of honour, celebrating with the fans.

This is a great achievement for them.  Well done.  However, we expect much more and did not celebrate being in the play-offs.  We had lost at home anyway.

Maybe the key different in the play-offs will be how the 2 teams view  being there in the first place.  Just reaching them is not good enough for us.

Right were in the play offs all negativity must cease until our fate has been decided. I'm sure Tranmere, Wrexham and Luncoln fans would swap places in an instant. We are 3 games to win to get into the football league - lets bs the 12th man - something Braintree can't have.

We will have our best team available, no injuries, no suspensions.

Hopefully a big home crowd will get behind the lads on Thursday.

Don't come off you mean.

Town will get through to Wembley

Yes, it was a typo! I meant to say 'wouldn't be surprised.........'

Watched the Braintree game, they looked v good though against a poor team-Akinola ran them ragged. Pich looked to have less grass and more craters than the field at the back of my house.

It's a real step into the unknown for them.

We need to raise our game, but they have been over achieving recently and you can't keep that going indefinitely.

Let's hope Paddy gets a couple of chances early on..

Positives today--- makeshift team only lost 1-0 after gifting them the goal in front of a large crowd.

Negatives---- no clear shot on goal for 90 minutes, nothing for the travelling fans to celebrate, no mention for the fans from Hurst in the interview after the game-----disgrace.

Two games left to sort it, because if we do get to Wembley we should win it, we need to start  a three game unbeaten run now.

They haven't needed a 12th man of late.

Yes, the fans sounded magnificent today. Also when asked by JT what he had learnt since the last encounter with Braintree his answer made no sense at all, he just recounted how Braintree had played on the night.

Showed him in a very poor light. That magnificent travelling support should have been acknowledged. Shame on the players for the pathetic display without a shot on target and shame on Hurst for not having the good grace to thank and praise our superb fans.

The supporters in attendance were spot on today and let's keep it that way for next few weeks. Hurst can be burnt at stake if we fail, until then we fall in line.

Totally agree, he should have acknowledged the brilliant Town fans - he's doing it his way and f*ck everyone else,  last chance saloon now..surely!

I really really want to swear at Hurst because he angers me in so many ways and I can't wait until he pisses off but to not thank those 500 odd Town fans for their unbelievable patience and fantastic support throughout the season is a damned disgrace......grrrrrrr!

What a prat Hurst is. Typical arrogant Yorkie.
Not interested in the fans he has badly let down time and again.
What happened to the Operation Promotion money. It looks like it was well spent on Hoban and Jennings. 17 matches between then and not a single goal. I could have done that. Most of his loans have been crap this season with the exception of Nolan.
If it wasn't for Podge's little payout on equal top goalscorer this season would have beeen a complete disaster.

With this set up, next season is going to be no better. Still we can alway hope that Hurst flukes the play-offs and then clears off back to Rotherham double quick.

This club is at it's lowest ebb since 1878, and nothing appears to want to change it.
Next season we will import another load of expert players to supplement the remains of the depleated squad.
By the way an expert is descibed as: An ex is a has been and a spurt is a drip under pressure. Remind you of anybody.

Was so looking forward to being promoted this season with all the hype but eh oh let's get real. We are no better than tin pot part time teams with grounds like farmers fields.

Could always go and watch Podge next season though, he will only be 20 odd miles down the A180.

Rant over.

PS Please prove me wrong Hursty and get us out of this damn league pronto. UTM

I am sure if he reads this he will be well and truly inspired.............Some of the loanees have been average ay best but as well as Nolan in his defence he brought in real quality in Townsend, Also there was a fair few he tried to sign such as Vose.

And to correct you we where at the lowest ebb when we got relegated to this league and failed to get into the play offs in the first season with a truly poor team.

Maybe your disappointed because you believed the pre season hype?

It's about expectation. I am sure Braintree and Dover are over the moon to be in the play offs.

We on the other hand have already been in the play offs and failed three times. For us,  getting into the playoffs is a minimum requirement. But not a cause for celebration.

Winning the play off final is an achievement to celebrate . Anything less is failure.  Hurst must go if he fails again.

I wonder how many times that op promotion money has been spent - some posters bring it up on here about every other player. I'm no longer any fan of Hurst but using op promotion to beat him over the head over every failed signing/dissapointing performance/defeat became tiresome a long time ago.

Most of us go to away matches to support the team and have a good laugh, which we did, not to get a pat on the head off the flipping manager. Perhaps you need some more important things to care about? Should probably start by leaving the safety of your PC...

Oh dear, why are you lashing out at me? I was praising our superb support. That includes you. Maybe it's because I have plenty of important things to care about that I didn't drag my @rse to the opposite coast to witness another non performance.

I remember us playing a weakened team at dartford a few years ago last game of the season and we know how that ended.

Stumbling to 5th place no form, teams like braintree and dover above us just makes you a bit unconfident.

No you dont..It was a game played on a Thurs with another game on the following Sat. V Chester

It's ANY opportunity to have a dig at the manager though, isn't it? Absolutely anything can, and has been, turned into an attack on the bloke. Disgrace this, abomination that...it's just beyond tiresome, and trust me, I like him less than most.

I knocked this board on the head at the end of August purely for that reason, and didn't come back on until about a month or so ago, when the urge to do a big internet swear got the better of me. I'm not alone and plenty of other people have got bored of it and just jacked it in.

Fair enough, maybe he could have said "ta for coming", like he does most weeks, but don't misconstrue him not getting on his knees by the turnstiles and blowing everyone that goes as either a calculated attack on the supporters, or an indication that he doesn't care.

Or do whatever you like, not arsed, I'm trying to watch Gladiator.

Nope Ska makes a valid point. Hurst gets slagged off for everything even down to the fact he's a yorkshireman. Which I am sure is a root cause of some of the victorl.

If he had played some of the first team players and they had got injured he would have got murdered especially if Macca,Josh or god forbid Podge had got injured.

The team he put out against a must win Tranmere was NOT  a disgrace as some have mentioned.

That was as much a insult to them lads such as Venny as the ALLEGED snub by Hurst on our fans WHICH I DO NOT believe for one minute.

Hurst HAS PRAISED THE FANS ON MANY OCCASIONS despite selective memories  by a few on here.

Lets all pull together it's easy to slag people and players off when things don't go right.

Just thank god those magnificent fans there yesterday don't have the same ABUSIVE views as SOME on here.

UTM.

Just looking at the table we have only taken 6 points from 5 of the bottom 12 teams this season. Get Venny, Omar and Clifton on.

Luckily we dont play them in the play offs  ;)

Agree with what Ska says here. I, like many, go to games to watch football; I don't go looking for approval from anyone for it because I went of my own accord. Likewise, I'll be going to both playoff games to support the team, not because I want to show Hurst 'how much the fans mean to this club'.

Whilst we're on the subject of the playoffs, the absolutely vile opinion of Braintree makes me laugh. "It's only Braintree ffs". They must be only Braintree but they are in the playoffs because they have played good football, not allowed teams to be them and they are at this level on merit, as are we. The big bollox attitude to many teams in this league is sickening; how many championship clubs last season were saying "it's only Bournemouth ffs" and look where they are now.

I like to have ambition to be higher than where we are but to believe we should be higher because we "have the best fans in league" is pitiful tbh.
