Proud Town Lose to Rams

By: Rob Sedgwick

VALIANT Grimsby lost 1-0 in an EFL Cup match in which they restricted Championship Derby to just a handful of chances. Town held the Rams to a 0-0 draw for the first hour of the game before succumbing to the game's only goal from Richard Keogh's header.

The Mariners rarely threatened the Derby goal and their best chances came in the dying seconds when 'keeper James McKeown came up for a series of late corners.

Town certainly weren't outclassed and can hold their heads up high at taking a strong side from two divisions above them right until the final whistle before they could be certain of progressing to Round 2 of the EFL Cup.
