Town Earn Point

By: Rob Sedgwick
Date: 23/11/2016

GRIMSBY earned another point at home courtesy of a 2-2 draw with the impressive Carlisle. Although it was disappointing to drop points at home again on this occasion it was one point gained rather than two points lost against one of the best teams Town have come up against so far.

Carlisle had the better of the first half in which chances were at a premium. Grimsby annoyingly conceded just before half time after a terrible mistake by McKeown who presented the ball straight to Charlie Wyke who gratefully gave the Cumbrians a deserved lead

Town equalised early in the second after a Bogle penalty after Kayden Jackson was brought down in the box, but Carlisle went back in front on the break after confusion in the Town defence led to an own goal. Bolarinwa then scored at his second attempt from a ball which rebounded to him from a corner. Town in the end gained a well-earned point against an in-form side.

The Mariners showed character to get back into the game twice and the substitutions were early enough and effective to engineer a change in the scoreline.

Town have a break from their mini-series against the leaders when they make another long trip at the weekend, this time to Sussex when they take on Crawley Town, who currently lie near the foot of the division. Crawley was the venue for Town's first ever non-league game in 2006, a match which the Mariners won but Crawley went on to get promoted.
