Question of the Week

Who will go down?

Paul Sleeth

By: Rob Sedgwick
Date: 18/06/2000

Cod Head Paul Sleeth

The following is an interview of Paul Sleeth undertaken by The Fishy.

At the time this interview was done Paul was taking part in a competition in New Zealand.

Fishy:
When did you first start supporting the Mariners, and what was your first game?

Paul:
I first started supporting the mariners when my dad took me to my first game when I was about 6 years old. Memory fails me which team we played - possibly Brentford

Fishy:
Who is the best player you ever saw wearing a Grimsby Town shirt?

Paul:
The best player that I can remember was Joe Waters - he played with such passion in a black and white shirt - and inspired me because he like me was not a tall bloke!

Fishy:
If there is one game you were allowed to go back in time and watch what would it be and why?

Paul:
Grimsby away to Everton at Goodison Park when Town won in the dying minutes 1/0 with a Paul Wilkinson goal - we all went mad, so did the Everton fans - they put the windows through on our coach. It was a true underdog win and very satisfying

Fishy:
What are your favourite and least favourite away grounds?

Paul:
Favourite - Liverpool, least - Halifax

Fishy:
What, in your opinion, are GTFC's best and worst seasons since you have been supporting them?

Paul:
Worst - the relegation season when laws ruined the spirit of the side - Kenny Swain couldn't halt the slide. Best was the bounce back, and the AWS win - 2 trips to Wembley - I was in Indonesia at the time and missed both trips but imagine my joy when I bought the British Soccer Weekly and saw Paul Groves on the front cover with the headline - Mighty Mariners

Fishy:
What is the most eventful day you have ever had in the course of following the Mariners?

Paul:
As above - I whooped with joy and ran off overjoyed

Fishy:
Who is the greatest ever GTFC manager?

Paul:
Alan Buckley - without doubt

Fishy:
How many games a season do you get to now, and what do you do while Town are playing games that you can't get to?

Paul:
None now unfortunately but I follow their progress through friends and family

Fishy:
Name your all-time starting eleven since you have been watching Town?

Paul:
Batch, Croft, Handyside, Lever, Mcdermott, Waters, Oster, Groves, Bonetti, Wilkinson, Lester
