Question of the Week

Where will Grimsby be next season?

Lawrence To Throw Beharall In At Deep End!

By: Bill Osborne
Date: 09/08/2001

LENNIE LAWRENCE will today sign a one month loan agreement with Newcastle United youngster David Beharall who has trained with the Mariners all week and will be in the starting line-up against Crewe on Saturday.

"We're looking to sort it out and I don't anticipate any problems. He'll play on Saturday as Raven doesn't look like he's going to make it," said Lawrence to the Grimsby Telegraph.

"We've had a couple of days to look at him and he's the right age and he's at the right time in his career where he needs to do it. He's keen and enthusiastic, and it's up to him to take his chance. He'll get a couple of games and if he's good enough he'll stay in like all the loan players we've had here."

Lawrence said he had decided to take a chance on the unproven Beharall rather than risk playing a midfielder out of position alongside skipper Paul Groves. Menno Willems or Danny Butterfield had been his first choices to replace Raven.

"Obviously I didn't want to play somebody out of position but with Livvo out we knew the problems we would have if Raven got injured. Any other injury in another position we could have coped with."

In other news today, landlords around Blundell Park are looking to get very busy with bars at Blundell Park being closed due to the licensing problem.

As reported yesterday, Grimsby Town club bosses failed to apply for a renewal of their drinks licence with in the time limit and have been left home and dry in the ground's six bars.

A spokesman for the Inn on the Park refused to comment on the effect to fans and the cost to the business of the licence restriction.
