Marc North Dies Aged 34

By: Rob Sedgwick
Date: 25/09/2001

FORMER Grimsby striker Marc North passed away early on Tuesday morning after succumbing to a six-month battle against lung cancer. The 34-year-old was initially diagnosed with the disease at Christmas, but was given the all-clear by Essex doctors just six weeks ago.

Sadly his condition deteriorated rapidly since that diagnosis, with the cancer spreading to his spine. A statement from Marc's hometown club of Luton Town read: "It is with great sadness that Luton Town Football Club has learned that former player Marc North died early this morning. The Chairman, Directors, players and staff at Kenilworth Road all join with Luton supporters everywhere to send their condolences to Marc's family and friends. He leaves an eight-year-old son, Daniel, and an ex-wife, Rachel, from whom he separated recently".

The Fishy would like to express our sorrow at the tragic news of the loss of Marc at such a premature age and pass on our condolences to his family. In his time at Blundell Park Marc was a talented and popular footballer, who sadly was forced to retire from the game aged 26 through injury.

Pass on your condolences on the RIP Marc North MB.
