Question of the Week

Where will Grimsby be next season?

Sheffield Wednesday Preview

By: Richard Lord
Date: 31/03/2002

THERE is good news filtering through from Blundell Park on the injury front, as manager Paul Groves revealed to the official website www.gtfc.co.uk that none of the players had reported injured after Saturday's defeat.

Home > 2001-2002 Season > Previews > Sheff Wed (h)

Steve Livingstone and David Smith are long-term absentees and are unlikely to play this season. The only question being asked is whether Groves will stick to the same team.

Robert Taylor is ineligible until after Monday's game, and there are question marks over Terry Cooke's fitness. Willie Falconer and Paul Robinson look set to play a part in the relegation clash.

Groves is likely to stick to the same back four, despite conceding four goals at the weekend. Boulding is favourite to start up front but whether he is partnered by Allen, Robinson or Falconer is unknown.

Allen was taken off early in the Birmingham defeat, perhaps an indication that he will be used from the start on Monday. Robinson impressed after coming off the bench and Falconer also had a good run-out.

In midfield Cooke could be drafted in and Burnett could replace Coldicott. Groves is playing his cards close to his chest and we won't know what the starting line-up is until 3pm tomorrow.

Sheffield Wednesday are set to give a full debut to Kevin Gallacher, and their other Deadline Day signing Jon McCarthy will also take a place in the starting eleven.

A back four of Haslam, Broomes, Maddix and Burrows is what manager Terry Yorath is likely to go for, and will be unwilling to change a winning side.

Finnish international Shefki Kuqi and Belgian Gerald Sibon will start up front, with Simon Donnelly playing just behind.
