Where will Grimsby be next season?

Kuffour On Trial

By: Richard Lord
Date: 21/08/2002

THE Reserves will tonight be fielding trialists Sean Evers and Chris Kamara in their match against Scunthorpe United, kick-off 7pm. Joe Kuffour, on trial from Champions Arsenal, will also be included in the line-up.

Reserve team coach Paul Wilkinson said: "We got a call on Monday to say that Joe had been released by Arsenal, and we were asked if we wanted to take a look at him. He's a quick lad and he's got a good pedigree, but you never know until you see him play."

The Edmonton-born striker will lead the attack alongside Darren Mansaram. The 20-year old signed professionally with the Gunners in July 2000 after featuring in the Youth Cup winning team of 2000 and the Under-19s team of the same year.

The youngster had a loan spell at Swindon Town last year, before he was released at the end of the season by Arsenal. Paul Raven is expected to play, with the rest of the team a combination of reserve and youth team players.

Wilkinson concluded: "The main thing this year is that we get players ready for the first team. They have to be knocking on the door."

  • Position: Striker
  • Date of Birth: 17 November 1981
  • Weight: 10.03

Chris Kamara is the nephew of the 34-year-old former Bradford manager and Sky TV commentator.
