Where will Grimsby be next season?

Blundell Boys To Have Run Out?

By: Tony Hamilton
Date: 26/04/2003

PAUL Groves is ready to give a run out to the youngsters that are on the fringe of the first team squad at play off chasing Reading today.

Graham Lockless, Greg Young, Kirk Wheeler and Stephen Downes are all in the squad ready to be called upon if needed at the Madjeski Stadium.

The Gaffer has already given six of the youngsters' debuts this season and use another three of the YTS to prop up the Mariners threadbare squad, which is now Second Division bound next season.

The last home game against Walsall on Easter Monday decided Town's fate and now the young lads have the chance to shine as Mick Boulding and Simon Ford are out for the rest of the season. David Soames will miss the game due to twisting his ankle in training.

"We might give the young lads a chance to play," said Groves who also warned the senior players that they had to perform."

"People have mentioned that we should have used more youngsters this season, but if they look back we have."

"The likes of Digger, Flash and Wes Parker have had a good taste of first team action and the other that are left haven't."

Groves took his decision after watching the reserves win at Lincoln 2-1 in mid-week, but has refused to name the youngsters he has in mind for Saturday's game.
