Question of the Week

Where will Grimsby be next season?

Scunthorpe Report Card

By: Dr Fishy
Date: 24/07/2004

DR Fishy was at Blundell Park to see the Mariners crash out of the Lincolnshire Senior Cup on penalties, after a goalless draw.

Anthony Williams

He had his best game of all the pre-season matches and kept Town in the game with some good saves, but there is still room for improvement.

Grade: B

Jason Crowe

Kept tearing down Town's right side but struggled to give the front men the crosses they wanted. Will do well if he’s always played in this position instead of midfield.

Grade: C+

Ronnie Bull

Had a quiet game and never really shone throughout the match. Hopefully he will show more guts during the season and work on his consistency.

Grade: C-

Tony Crane

Had trouble along with his defensive partner with cutting out the orbital balls into the penalty area, which our opposition thrived on. As usual the red mist descended, and if it wasn't for a good ref, he would have added another red card to his record.

Grade: C-

Justin Whittle

A problem night with the way he played and the way he defended. Hopefully he'll improve and prove to all the supporters what he can do in the 2004/2005 season.

Grade: C

Rob Jones

A doubt before the game with his club saying he wasn't playing but Jones must have stayed in Stockport because he didn't do any thing worthwhile during his time on the pitch.

Grade: D+

Terry Fleming

Looked a good signing and showed what he could do in midfield BUT gave the ball away with some suicide passes which in turn gave Town more pressure to take on board.

Grade: C

Stacy Coldicott

Showed why he was called the "YARD DOG" and covered most of Blundell Park helping his other team-mates and played well with his midfield partner. Could be our rock in midfield that we need.

Grade: B-

David Soames

Did his usual - all game ran around and did nothing worthy for his team and has proven that he probably won't start the season. Might be of some use if we are desperate in LEAGUE 2.

Grade: C-

Darren Mansaram

Had a few chances to shine but showed he hasn't learnt anything from his mistakes from last season and hopefully won't figure a lot for Town next season. Still has a tendency to run without the ball.

Grade: C-

Subs John McDermott and Ashley Sestanovich didn't play long enough to get graded

A special mention to Russell Slade for changing the formation from his preferred 3-4-3 that we've heard all about during this pre season

Grade Guide

A*This is almost impossible to achieve as I will refuse to give anyone this grade - unless they score six goals and get opposing players sent off.
AThis is more possible to achieve, although the player must have had a brilliant game i.e. he can't have put a foot wrong all match.
A-The player must have performed superbly, setting up goals, scoring goals, making match-winning tackles etc.
B+The player played to a very high standard indeed having been influential throughout the 90 minutes.
BThis can be achieved if the player had a very good game overall but could be forgiven for making one or two minor mistakes.
B-The player put in a performance worthy of special mention for his efforts on the pitch or otherwise having a good game.
C+A mark for players who have had an average game but at the same time played well in patches and may have had an impact on the final score.
CAn average performance but not worthy of being dropped for the next game - a competent performance.
C-Start thinking about the player's attitude and commitment on the pitch. Showed little effort and was probably invisible for most of the match.
D+Poor game and realistically shouldn't feature in the next game.
DThis player shouldn't be playing in the near future.
D-The player deserves to be fined for his abysmal performance
EThe player should be sacked
F And then shot
