Beat the Bookies: Week 27

By: Rob Sedgwick

LAST weekend was a disaster, both for the Mariners and my bets! Beat the Bookies' recommendation of Newcastle to lose to Cheltenham unfortunately was not one of the weekend's upsets.

There are plenty of interesting ties this weekend. Chelsea v Liverpool is always a low-scoring tight affair, so there are plenty of opportunities to sell total goals in the spread markets, or lay a Chelsea win on the betting exchanges. On the old-fashioned fixed odds betting a Liverpool win is 10/3 with bet365.com.

The nearest thing to a racing certainty in the Premiership is Sunderland to lose, and West Ham are surprisingly only 8/15 with bet365.com to win at Upton Park. Compared to some of the prices normally offered for home bankers this one seems good value to me.

Another home banker is Luton to beat Hull at Kenilworth Road in the Championship. Hull have disappointed all season, and Peter Taylor's side are slipping gradually towards the relegation places. Luton on the other hand need to pick up points to lift themselves into the play-off places. bet365.com offer 5/6 for a home win.

In League Two, as I said last week, it's time when the clubs at the bottom start playing out of their skins - and how right I was! Relegation to the Conference is the unspeakable horror that players would do anything to be associated with! This week Rushden are 9/2 to win at their high-flying neighbours Northampton with bet365.com. Torquay are also an attractive 9/5 to win at home against Leyton Orient and do Town a favour! Don't be surprised if at least one of those two "shocks" happens!

RECOMMENDED BET OF THE WEEK:
West Ham to beat Sunderland
