Beat the Bookies: Week 3

By: Rob Sedgwick
Date: 29/08/2007

LIKE the Mariners Beat the Bookies has yet to back a winner this season, but also like the Mariners it can only be a matter of time!

Home > 2007-2008 Season > Beat the Bookies > Week 3

If ever a match involving the Mariners looked like a being draw then Saturday's game at the New Meadow has to be the one. Town have drawn a club record six games on the trot, and the last three games between Shrewsbury and Grimsby at Gay Meadow have all been draws. Finally, in a certain symmetry, Town could counter the last ever draw at Gay Meadow with the first one at the New Meadow. For those fancying a draw bet365 are offering 9/4, with the ubiquitous 1-1 scoreline priced 11/2.

However despite all that Beat the Bookies this week is recommending a Grimsby win! Shrewsbury have had a tough week, going down 3-0 at MK Dons at the weekend, and then losing a bruising midweek cup game against Fulham by the odd goal. Futhermore Town's performances have been better than their results so far, and the 11/4 on offer with Corals is worth considering. The current price on Betfair is also 4.4 which is even better value.

Elsewhere in League Two Morecambe have got off to a great start and head to Notts County who, like Grimsby, have yet to win a game. Morecambe are surprisingly 10/3 with William Hills to beat County, a price which suggests reputations rather than current form.

Another "reputation" price is Rotherham to beat Chester at home. The bookies make Chester 3/1 conveniently forgetting that Chester are second in the table (above Rotherham) and won their last game 4-0.

Recommended Bets

  • 1. Grimsby to beat Shrewsbury (11/4, Corals).
  • 2. Chester to beat Rotherham (3/1, bet365).

Previous Bets (1 or 2 bets, around £10 per week each of Rob's own money)
