Fenty Blasts Players

TOWN Chairman John Fenty has hit out at the lack of commitment from some of the players in the Grimsby squad, and has said it will be these players rather than Town manager Mike Newell who will be leaving the club.

In a statement released on Mariners Net today, Fenty says: "You never know what you are going to get from some individuals in the building and we can't continue to rely on them anymore. We've made the decision that we need to bring additional personnel in and weed out the weak minded and those who lack a constant work ethic. Players like this don't have a long term future at this football club and that's the message.".

Not coincidentally, two Town players Danny North and Peter Bore, both former youth team players, who have been professionals for several years, have both been made available for loan. One suspects more will follow.

In the meantime Town have made one new signing, former youth team attacking midfielder Jammai Shahin, who can also play up front.

  • The Mariners have been drawn against Leeds United at Elland Road in the northern quarter-finals of the Johnstone's Paint Trophy.

The match will take place on November 10th probably.

Grim Rob Says Full marks to John Fenty. Too many supporters have got into the mentality of calling for the manager's head after a string of poor results. While the manager obviously has some responsibility, if the players aren't performing or willing to give their career 100% commitment then there's not a lot he can do. There are still a lot of players at the club which Mike Newell inherited from the previous bosses. Mike Newell can only be truly judged after two or three years when he has had time to acquire his own team and imprint his own style on the club's personnel.

It's a good draw in the JPT Trophy and no doubt it will be a great night playing one of the big "yorkie" teams again. Nobody will expect us to win, so Town have nothing to lose on the night, and can really go for it against Leeds.
