Woods Frustrated with Draw

By: Rob Sedgwick
Date: 22/09/2010

NEIL Woods was disappointed that Grimsby failed to beat Gateshead last night. Woods felt that they hadn't had enough possession to deserve to win the game against what he thought was an inferior side (on paper) to Town.

"The game was very even. I think the only massive threat they offered was from corners and set pieces," said Woods.

"If it had been a game where we'd been in total control and for whatever reason we didn't score, you don't mind that. But the quality of performance wasn't there.

"The effort is there, the desire to do it is there, we work extremely hard on the shape but it just isn't clicking at the moment and we've just got to graft and get it right.

Wood thought that the home side had an inferior squad to Town, although on the night there was not much to choose between them/

"Without being disrespectful to Gateshead, there wouldn't be one player from their side that would get into our side before we started the game.

"At the moment there's not enough quality when we get possession of the ball. We're not dictating the game."

Woods vowed to work hard on the training ground to put things right. Since beating Luton Town have got just one point from three games against the smaller teams in the division.

"Everybody is feeling the frustration, from back to front. Whether it's a rut or whatever, we need to get out of it quickly. Maybe it's down to confidence because we've got the players there back to front but we aren't anywhere near where we should be."
