Where will Grimsby be next season?

Late Goal Denies Town

By: Rob Sedgwick
Date: 25/01/2012

GRIMSBY'S winning streak almost reached seven league games last night, but a late goal from 10 men Barrow when the game looked won left the Mariners having to settle for a draw. Liam Hearn set Town on their way with an early goal, but Barrow quickly equalised.

Then with the game evenly poised Garner headed in a Coulson free kick to put Grimsby's noses in front. The match looked like it was heading Town's way once Lomax was sent off for two quick bookings.

But Barrow rallied and some late pressure led to a 89th minute equaliser when Jackson came off the bench and headed in a cross.

The Mariners didn't lose much ground on the teams above them as they mainly lost and drew so the league table is not much altered.

Unchanged Town scored after 10 minutes. Hearn was played through by Thanoj, and Town's leading marksman slid the ball past the 'keeper.

A few minutes later Hearn beat the defence and presented the ball to Elding who skied it over the bar.

Barrow equalised on 21 when poor defending allowed Boyes to smash a cross in from the edge of the area. Barrow had the better of the rest of the first half.

Town started the second half strongly, then Barrow came back into it, but Town went in front when Garner headed in a Coulson free kick.

Barrow were reduced to 10 men when Lomax was sent off for a second foul on Coulson.

Coulson had a great chance to put the game beyond down but was thwarted by a goal line clearance.

Jackson came on and scored a sickening 89th minute equaliser when he headed in a cross.

Town's next fixture is against AFC Telford, a team they have yet to play this season.
