Hurst Signs New Deal

PAUL Hurst has signed an improved contract with Grimsby to reflect the fact that Hurst is now the sole manager of the Mariners. Hurst previously had a contract dating back to the days when he managed jointly with Rob Scott, but since Scott's dismissal Hurst has reigned alone.

Hurst's contract remains a six month rolling one, but the terms of the deal have been improved. Since managing on his own Grimsby have reached the FA Cup Third Round, gone on a 14 match unbeaten run and currently are the favourites with the bookies to lift the FA Trophy. Town fans already have some fond memories of the brief Hurst era - victories over Scunthorpe and Lincoln, and the FA Cup games with Northampton and Huddersfield being the highlights. Most importantly of all Grimsby are currently in a play-off spot and still have an outside change of claiming top spot.

Coincidentally Grimsby's promotion rivals Kidderminster have sacked their highly-regarded manager Steve Burr. Kidderminster are sat in seventh place, but are level on points with Halifax in the final play off spot and they have played three less games than Halifax. At the time of writing it looks like the top 5 will most likely be Luton, Cambridge, Grimsby, Alfreton and Kidderminster, but that was obviously not good enough for the Harriers board.
