Grimsby v Tranmere Team News

By: Rob Sedgwick
Date: 18/09/2015

FORMER Lincoln striker Ben Tomlinson had joined Grimsby on a month's loan from Lincoln. Tomlinson can also operate on the wing and often played in a wide role for City. The former Imp has only made three appearances in League Two since signing for the Bees in the summer.

With Town scoring so freely it doesn't seem certain that Tomlinson will go straight into the side, certainly as a striker anyway. Hurst may decide to use Tomlinson on the bench in Pittman's slot.

Hurst's other main decision is whether to bring in Josh Gowling who was benched in the 1-1 draw with Chester after returning from suspension. Town have yet to record a clean sheet, a record Hurst and the team will be desperate to remedy as soon as possible.

Josh Sunter (foot) and Scott Brown (ankle) are still missing from the squad, although they have begun light training so soon will be options for the manager to consider

Tranmere have had an identical start to Grimsby and the teams have matching record with the same number of points. Town have both scored and conceded a lot more goals than Tranmere, especially at home where Grimsby have been prolific scorers.

The game represents by far the stiffest challenge yet, at least on paper, that Grimsby have had to face and will give supporters a chance to match their team up against one of their fellow favourites.

The match will be shown on BT Sport this evening for those unable to attend.
