Question of the Week

Who will go down?

Steve Croudson Gives His View Of His Loan Move!

By: Bill Osborne
Date: 12/06/2001

STEVE CROUDSON, Grimsby Town's number two keeper, who is being offered out on loan by manager Lennie Lawrence has given his reaction to the announcement and where he sees himself in the Grimsby setup.

Lawrence's decision to send him out on loan and leave himself without cover for Danny Coyne seems a strange one.

Croudson, on the other hand, appears to welcome the idea and sees it as a chance to show what he can do, telling The Sports Telegraph, "I think I need to go and get a bit of experience if I'm to progress here."

"...A spell at Lincoln would be absolutely ideal..."

Commenting on the possibility of joining Alan Buckley at Lincoln for a season he said, "That would be brilliant, I would be playing league football and a spell at Lincoln would be absolutely ideal. I need to play first team football on a regular basis and I need a run of games to show what I am capable of. Then I can prove to everyone that I can play at that level of football and hopefully do well."

There has been no confirmation so far that Buckley is interested in that arrangement and if he does not make an offer it is likely that Croudson will be joining Northwich Victoria for a spell or any other team that will take him including those in the Conference.

Despite Ronald Ermes coming to Blundell Park, Croudson appears to be confident of his position saying, "I don't think it affects me but Ronald Ermes coming in gives me competition for my place. I don't really feel that I need that competition because it's always there and I am always fighting and trying to be number one"

"...My aim is to keep fighting Danny for the number one spot..."

"The gaffer says he's pleased with me and told me to keep working and keep going on. You can only learn from Danny and then wait for your chance to get in. I'll be there next season and trying to be better than him. If I go out on loan it's another chance."

"My aim is to keep fighting Danny for the number one spot, that's where I see myself"

Hyldgaard Hyldgaard - No Threat

On Lennie's decision to bring in Coventry keeper Morton Hyldgaard (pictured) on loan at the end of last season, Steve said: "Yes it was difficult to be fair but I knew the situation. The gaffer explained it to me and that was good of him. I always felt involved and travelled to all the games."

"It's been frustrating for me but you cannot do anything about it. You've just got to do as well as you can to please the manager."

"It's difficult to get your break with Danny playing in the form he is. I always want to prove myself to myself and you're always fighting to keep up with Danny. You have to be in form yourself in case Danny gets injured."
