Beat the Bookies: Week 11

By: Rob Sedgwick
Date: 03/10/2006

HARTLEPOOL'S trouncing of Grimsby last week was widely anticipated, but not by the bookies who foolishly made the Mariners favourites to win.

Home > 2006-2007 Season > Beat the Bookies > Week 11

Hopefully your distress was a little offset by the rich pickings which had been on offer at our bookmakers.

Town are on television this weekend, and it's difficult to know how the team will react. The manager and players will be desperate to avoid the humiliation of the last two home games, but can they come up with the goods? Once again Town meet a team with poor form (sooner or later we're going to start playing the good sides), so the bookies have once again made us favourites. bet365.com go 5/4 for a home win, 9/5 for an away win, and 9/4 the draw. It all sounds about right.

In the other League Two fixtures, the outstanding bet is Hartlepool to win at Lincoln. The Imps have struggled recently at home, yet bet365.com are offering a highly generous 15/8 for an away win.

In the England game, you can back Macedonia to win at the moment for a remarkable 45/1 with Betfair. England only beat them 1-0 away from home, so the odds seem more than generous what would admittedly be a huge upset. Alternatively you can still get a good return by laying England at 1.1, with Betfair, which works out at about 10/1 and you will also win if the result is a draw. One or the other has got to be worth a few quid.

Recommended Bets

  • 1. Hartlepool to beat Lincoln (15/8 with bet365.com).
