Question of the Week

Who will go down?

December Player of the Month

By: Rob Sedgwick
Date: 05/01/2007

DECEMBER 2006 was a mixed month for the Mariners. It started so brightly with another clean sheet to claim three points at Barnet, followed by a 2-1 win at home to Shrewsbury. With the end of the month however came the bitter disappointment of defeat to Hartlepool and Stockport.

The six players nominated by our readers for the December Player of the Month award, votes from which will count towards the eventual winner at the end of the season, are as follows:

Phil Barnes - Generally now a reliable 'keeper who let himself down only with the own goal against Stockport.

Gary Croft - Almost retired in the summer but has played virtually every game this season for the Mariners and is a reliable full back on either side of the pitch, and is currently keeping Macca out of the side. Will no doubt be pleased to see the same manager at the end of his career as that which started it.

Nick Fenton - Probably Town's best player so far this season. Mr Reliable at the back and Town are not the same side without him. Even scored a valuable goal against Torquay.

Martin Paterson - Started the month on fire and scored the winner at Barnet and both goals against Shrewsbury. Paterson has not scored since, but at the same time has never stopped trying. The only complaint is he could do with passing the ball a bit more!

Tom Newey - Newey is a much better player since the arrival of Alan Buckley and must be one of the first names on the team sheet ever week.

Ricky Ravenhill - With Bolland out of the side during much of December, Ravenhill had the chance to claim Bolly's spot and had a couple of good games alongside Pulis.

Pleas vote using Question of the Week.
