I don't think I've ever felt so nervous, I think it's because we didn't get a positive result at BP.  I didn't feel like this at Wembley a few weeks ago, nor in 98 when I went to both those Wembley visits.  Maybe it's because if we don't get promoted were not going to have a decent playing budget next season.

Do you think the extra money earnt will help us have a decent budget?

1) how did we receive from Wembley
2) how much would we receive in attendances in the playoffs plus TV money

Lets just hope the boys put it in fingers crossed.

Good Luck to Grimsby Town today.

I think you can and will overturn the HT result.

1 - 3 to Grimsby today, to set up a final with Kiddy.

I wish all of you that are travelling, a very safe, and fun journey.

Hope that you all come back with steaming hangovers from all of the celebrating.

Good Luck Mariners!

Interesting one that Meza. Not sure about the Wembley stuff - no doubt they're going to want their cut.
In respect to playing budgets I always times home gates - over the whole season - by about £10. So, if you have 3K average gates - about £700,000 income - a very rough guestimate. But then there are all the other payments within the running of a club outside of player's wages and most supporters usually ignore that in the equation - hence the need for JF to have put the money in that he has . Of course there's other fund raising and raised revenues outside of gate receipts.

Put it this way. I was told the other month that a club needs a playing budget of between £1M and £2M just to get out of the Conf. Prem! And then £2M - £3M to get out of Div 2. Don't ask about Div 2 to Div 1 - because I got the shock of my life - but possibly a big factor in why clubs like Stockport have fallen so quickly.

As far as I can tell, a league place would return :-

1). Premiership Solidarity Payment - abt. £250K
2). Television/Sponsorship - £430K
3). Youth Development - £180K

as some of the above cease immediately or halve and then cease after a year on demotion to the Conference.

In the meantime - enjoy the game.

Yeah, let's imagine we are talking to a non existent sky fairy deity,  that will almost definitely mean we'll win. Well I have to say, I'm not nervous cos I sincerely believe we are not good enough and don't deserve to go up. I know the final is a one off game and anything could happen but I would hate to see us have another miserable experience at Wembley. (Knocking confidence for next season?) However that doesn't mean I don't want promotion as we can build in the league too but maybe it would be more of a struggle? Another season down here wouldn't do us any harm though. A couple of decent midfielders and we could have a great season next time round! Anyway, Que sera sera. Let's hope it's a good game today........ :)

Just frustrating things from the town players, like marshall did something brilliant near the end of the half getting away from two defenders then just gave it away really easily with a poor touch. Just poor touches are making things hard for ourselves, need to really go for it with no fear now.

M91 is right. We have been poor again today. No pont in hiding behind it. I've tried being positive but it doesn't work. We have 45 mins to score a minimum of 2 goals. So far we have had one shot!

Seems to be a strong wind in our favour second half - just hope we d'ont go too long, i think we had as much of that half as Newport did, so its not impossible yet, just the final ball into the box and a bit of a run of the ball for a change.
Why is Thomas getting dragged inside all the time? The goal came for that and it happned a couple of other times,
someone should remind him he is left back.
Marshall seems to have the skill to trouble them if we can get the ball to him, Hearn looks off the pace although once again hasn't had much service.
We still have a slim chance - early goal vital.

Don't think we've been poor. Just not getting fair treatment.  We're getting nowt out of these officials. They seem to tolerate Newport's pushing and shoving but not ours.

Tolerance of the "physical" side of the game is one thing, but it's got to be even-handed.
Posted by: LukeyJ, April 28, 2013, 5:29pm; Reply: 159
Didn't Naylor have our best chance? Marshall definately seems casual, wins a really difficult ball, eases off for a second and it's lost, or holds on to the ball a second too long, their defender intercepts and they're on the break. Five average passes forward is better than 1 amazing and 4 intercourse ups.
Posted by: Badger57, April 28, 2013, 5:29pm; Reply: 160
I've seen this before......It's the same game.......over and over and over again!
WHY are they leaving Hearn totally isolated? It's ok flooding the midfield (Because our regular midfield isn't strong enough and hasn't been all season) but if they aren't quickly supporting the lone frontman then it's a pointless exercise.

So disappointing.  Started off reasonably well to be fair.  Disley has done OK.  Their keeper made a smart save from a scuffed Naylor shot.  The pitch is very poor.  Our crossing is woeful, after getting in decent positions- Colbeck and Marshall wasteful.  I am tired of the constant smashing it long. Poor old Liam.  We do not have the players for this system.  We need to keep playing it nice and tidy in the centre as we did at the beginning and then spread it out wide.

Newport are also very poor.  What they lack in quality, they are making up for by player together and prepared to get stuck in and chase lost causes.  They are pressing Town very well and it was a decent finish by the lad who has banged in 14 in 25 for them.  I hope all the huff and puff of the first half has taken something out of Newport, but I doubt it.  They have a very good home record and we aren't exactly scoring many at the moment.

Town need more quality and composure.

We miss Niven more than we could ever have imagined.

I'd have more pride for the team if they had the cahones to just walk off the pitch shaking Justin's hand as they head down the tunnel before we get to the 90.

In blind optimism people tried to pretend the midweek performance wasn't all that bad, when it really was... though it was nowhere near as terrible as this. In December we looked like our team was strongest in the league. Looking at it on the balance of the play-offs alone, we need a complete squad overhaul.

I blame the continuing rotation of players (that's my excuse).  I know it's a team game but from a players were's the incentive to keep playing well to keep your place in the side if the managers continue to rotate the team every match since Christmas, no wonder we've been crap.  I think they've tried to protect the players too much and it's backed fired on them.

Strike force is ok, just need to sort the midfield and wingers out.

We need

New full back - left sided.
2 centre midfielders
2 wingers

If Ford can get fit, we are ok with our current centre halves.

The strike force is ok but need the service from a Neilson type player. Id imagine Marshall will be heading back to Bury this summer as well as Devitt to Hull - he was a shadow of his former self this season.

Not sure what we need.  A bit of control, a bit of accuracy, a bit of confidence, a bit of strength, a bit of speed, a bit of brawn and a bit of fight.

We're floundering really - people say we need a new midfield, yet in the same breath they say Disley is our best player and Niven is the best thing since sliced breath.  Do we need a new midfield or the old one back to full fitness?

I found that quite embarrassing to watch.

we looked ok up to the goal- got into one or two good positions early on. The goal seemed to knock the stuffing out of us and we got worse and worse. Not the first time that has happened this season.

in a game of this importance not to really create any chances when you go into the game knowing you HAVE to win is really disappointing. We have finished with a wimper. Hull fans were slagging their team yesterday for lacking desire- some on here will say the same about Town. I dont know if you can really say that about a team that has finished fourth in the league but not for the first time this season we ran out ideas.

no doubt in the immediate aftermath of the game and with the disappointment we all feel there will over the top reaction like get rid of certain players or sack the Managers or call for Fenty to resign etc etc.

its been a decent season, progress has been made but we have ultimately we have come up short. if we are honest we probably werent good enough. I see no reason for knee jerk reactions or wholesale changes but clearly there will some changes to the squad for next season- some of which may be dictated by money.

I can forgive a lack of talent (begrudgingly) I'm not asking players to be world beaters. What I can't forgive is being outfought in a crucial 90 minutes, not one of the players seemed to want it or give a shite. The other thing I can't forgive is an inability to do the basics. Why are so many of our players unable to control the ball or pass it with reasonable accuracy?! That was a disgraceful performance, up there with the worst we've ever seen. Toothless, gutless and heartless. These players get a better than average wage to run around kicking a football and they couldn't be arsed to match the effort of the opposition in the most important game of the season.

Once the loan players have gone back I think the only players i'd get rid of would be greg pearson and louis soares. Not sure. We need a scott neilson, a niven that can pass, another winger, another left back. And to only use one or two loan players at a time I think we over relied on them this season and it ruins the conistancy of the team.

I know the feeling. I'm going to enjoy the three champions league games coming up and then try to forget about footy. I can't be arsed reading / hearing whatever huff and puff the managers want to come out with now. Their squad has fallen well short.

Improvement on previous years? Without a doubt. But when it really mattered we produced two limp, gutless performances. That dressing room needs more character. Some proper bad-áss  leaders.

Going 442 seemed a strange decision. It didn't work on Wednesday so not really going to work when 2-0 down. I thought Colbeck worked hard but so much wasted effort. Marshall tried to do too much and looked like their players knew this and just left him to it.

This, the difference between the two sides was just effort, very little from us and loads from them, so dissapointed. As was said earlier, the players should pay out for those who travelled today.

How many times have we seen performances like that this season - where we are second to every ball, can't control it when we do get it, and if we miraculously manage to somehow get it under control, end up having it either whipped off us by an opponent or hand it to them meekly on a plate, through bad passing.

OK - maybe I exaggerate - maybe we are better than that but today was so depressing to watch (again).  This season the results have been fairly convincing but have the performances?  And neither the results nor the performances held when it really mattered.

This, the difference between the two sides was just effort, very little from us and loads from them, so dissapointed. As was said earlier, the players should pay out for those who travelled today.

I must say, their players did seem to want it more than ours - they easily won the battle.

wasnt it just like Burton Albion agree

I had to double check if we had Cook up top and not Tommy Wright, with the quality of these streams and the performance it could have been!

Thank god there's no international thingy this summer

I actually said the exact same thing to the wife when the game finished, will be nice to have a full break and come back in high spirits for the new season

Out fought and out thought. A pathetic showing.

We need a couple of experienced midfield players who can actually hold the ball and pass it to feet.

We also need a few players with bottle, and fight in them We are so lightweight.

At the end the interviewer asked Hurst if the mangers and players can bounch back. He said 'Rob and I will......(long pause) and some of the players......'

Says it all.
