Scunny have got the 95.9 FM frequency today - we're just on 1485 AM & DAB (plus the online choice) so doubt you'll get it on your phone?  :-/

I think it's DAB only.  Download 'BBC iPlayer Radio' app, then just search for Radio Humberside, then you can listen on your phone. (thumbup)

I don't want to tempt fate, but when did we last have a longer unbeaten run?
Posted by: oldun, December 14, 2013, 5:34pm; Reply: 60
Oh flipping eck! another win. The fixture pile up will do for us. However well done especially good for the so called fringe lads to do the business and get some game time, it is good to know the squad are all capable of stepping up.
Posted by: acko338, December 14, 2013, 5:39pm; Reply: 61
Good to see the fringe players making a solid contribution and giving Hurst a good selection problem.

Dayle is certainly going to keep knocking on the door, and Cookie needed that goal, just hoping that starts him off on another scoring run !!

Another run out for Caine Winfarrah as well!

Is the Stuart Watkiss influence kicking in to produce young players capable of moving up to challenge for places??

In 11-12 season we went 15 league games without defeat, started on November 5th against Bath City and didn't lose again in the league till 6th March against Fleetwood.
Also in that time period we played Port Vale twice and didn't lose and drew at Salisbury in the FA Cup before losing the replay 2-3 at home. So although technically it wasn't a longer unbeaten run over all games, but it was in the league.
Coincidentally Salisbury City ended our unbeaten run that year, but this seasons run started after we lost at Salisbury.
If we go unbeaten up to the Huddersfield game then that would be 16 games unbeaten.

A favourable home draw against lower league opposition in the next round and (assuming our stiffs beat them) we're potentially 2 games from Wembley...

Ah!, i see.

I just thought we would put a weakened team out and Barnet have won their last three games, so wasn't expecting us to win there.

Glad we did, it keeps the run going and some fringe players got a game, so all good.

Was speaking with Andy Cook yesterday at our school Christmas Fayre (drafted in to help). He said that he wanted to get to Wembley again, personally he was more likely to start in the Trophy games at the moment. He said that winning was a good habit whether it be in the league, FA or Trophy did not matter, to keep the unbeaten run going for as long as possible.
Posted by: Tom13, December 14, 2013, 7:05pm; Reply: 74
Last year when the cup run led to the fixture pileup didn't we play the first team in both the cup and the league though? If we play the reserves in the Trophy, the fixture pileup shouldn't affect the league form of the first team really, although I appreciate it is likely to be a mixture of the two in the Trophy from now on.
Posted by: immariner, December 14, 2013, 7:08pm; Reply: 75
We were so close to extra time and a replay too. Rather have to play an extra game that's the next round of the cup!
Posted by: gaz57, December 14, 2013, 7:17pm; Reply: 76
Problem is Hurst will have a big decision if we make the final, play the team that got us there or the strongest to win a trophy for the club.
Posted by: immariner, December 14, 2013, 7:21pm; Reply: 77
True Gaz. Looking at the team he put out today, looks like he'll be increasing the first teamers' inclusion as the rounds go on, probably keeping in the better performing fringe players.
Posted by: Rodley Mariner, December 14, 2013, 7:28pm; Reply: 78
You have to think about the money involved for both finalists. Financially we can't just disregard a decent chanxe of getting to Wembley again.

That's assuming we keep 'resting' players as we continue.

I think the teams we field will become gradually stronger. Pick a team considered good enough to win. I guess if we drew North Ferriby at home in the next round, that we'd play a weaker team than if we had Cambridge away.

What if that wrecks our chance of promotion?

Yes we need cash, but if we don't get promoted soon then we are in the deep stuff

So many games really will affect us later on the season. Remember what happened last year?

If we're doing 'What ifs' then what if we get ourselves knocked out of the trophy and don't get promoted? The title looks a long shot to me already and do we really think another 4 or 5 games would cost us one way or another?

I just don't think the long term survival of the club should be reliant on an fa trophy run. We need to make sure we do everything we can to give us the best chance of getting out this league. And Last year the fa trophy seemed like it was a massive distraction for us.

Don't underestimate the extra 4-5 games. We are already behind in terms of games played, throw in bad weather as well it is going to be similar to last year .... 3 games in a week scenario.  The 4-5 games extra isn't just the games themselves it is also the travelling involved, risk of injuries etc.... Plus an extra 3 games for the playoffs if you don't think we can go up as champions. Plus the extra 3 fa cup games this year.

Yes York did the double, and we played a ridicolous number in '98 but that was an extraordinarily good achievement, and is the exception raher than something we should aim to repeat every year.

so yeah  I do think the extra 4-5 or 7-8 or 10-11 extra games will take its toll and affect our chances of promotion and therefore not a risk worth taking. It's not really a 'what if' but  more of 'the likelihood will be .......'
Posted by: Rodley Mariner, December 15, 2013, 10:09am; Reply: 87
The trophy is a very chance to bring a large amount of income into the club. Not trying to progress in it will in no way guarantee promotion. I think the League has to be and will be our priority but that doesn't mean we have to completely neglect the trophy. Ihonestly think the signings of last Jan and the time taken to sign Hannah were far more detrimental than the Trophy.
