Not the best first half I have ever listened too, but, its still 0-0 and all to play for.  I'm just hoping that the players come out and work put a performance in that earns us the 3 points that we really need.  Don't care how we score or who scores for town, just want town to score.

Kerr for me needs to be changed before we go down to 10 men.

Come on Town.

You're kidding. He never shakes it up at half time. That would invovle making a pro active decision before the 70 minute mark.

LJL will come on for Cook and Hannah for Jennings. Neilson will be subbed at some point.

I think that comment is very harsh on Artus. Too often he was played out on the left wing, which is not his natural position. If he had been played in centre-midfield then I think he would have had more of a chance to show his ability.

Directly it's obviously Kerr's fault for being a reckless idiot. Indirectly it's Hurst's fault since Kerr was lucky to still be on the pitch, had been fouling people far too often after being booked and our astute manager didn't think to substitute him to prevent what many of us could see happening.

That's ok as it keeps Braintree at arms length

Against Braintree though.

Good win for us that though clearly not that much of a  performance.

Well done Rodman. 6th at the moment but we could go third on Tuesday with a win. UTM

Great result for us that as all the other results mainly went our way. Salisbury got a late goal against Kiddy. But for that late Heed goal it would have bee the perfect day, but it was against Braintree, so not toobad.

Halifax are now looking more dangerous than Cambridge IMO and have a goalscorer on fire.

Salisbury equalise 5 minutes into injury time against Kidderminster. Some great results for us today.

After today Hereford have scored 4 goals in their last 12 games - and we think we have goalscoring problems!

Have to say a decent win even though it didn't sound like the best of games.

Great result as well for Halifax beating Luton, they are the real form team at the minute especially at their place but having a look at all the teams fixtures in and around the play-off's they have the toughest run in by far. Certain I saw a few people say ours was on of the easiest too? Ours is pretty difficult looking at it.

It's important not to get too wrapped up looking at all the fixture lists etc but it's going to be really tight this year...

The last three games have been like this,

In two of them we played poor and won,

In the other we played well but lost,

Who cares how we play, three points is three points.

JT is deff a LJL fan ;D

I was at my Dad's house during the game and missed most of the commentary - in and out of the room most of the time, but I think I caught JT saying 'John Lewis' and 'excellent' in the same sentence?  Could someone confirm that please?  Don't think Tondeur is particularly a LJL fan - have heard him criticise on quite a number of occasions previously.

Will be interesting to hear what the Just Back experts (Big Chris and Barra if he's there) have to say.

To call people 'haters' is a bit insulting really. Does any fan on here genuinely 'hate' any of their own players? I hope not. There are many who are critical of him and others, but justifiably so I think. Equally, credit where it is due I think - sounds like he did well when he came on, and that Cook didn't do anything particularly special to advance his own cause. Let's be fair and balanced.

Thing is though, LJL should be playing well because he's had plenty of first team exposure this season. It's hard to judge Cook when he never gets more than 2 starts.

Yes, of course. It's another day when out strikers have failed to score though, but we got 3 points so there's something to be pleased with. PH didn't think we played particularly well, saying we lacked 'urgency'. I don't know if I'm glad or furious to hear him finally admit that. There's no excuse for this and it's been a feature of our play for weeks and weeks. I was saying that after the 0-0 draw at home to Southport but it's the first time I've heard Hurst acknowledge it. Why is this?

Hurst said the players looked tired. Poor buggers, must be a nightmare being a footballer.

Marinette- Tondeur was full of praise for LJL when he came on. After Kerr was dismissed, he had to plough a lonely furrow up front on his own. Took a couple of big hits but ran his proverbials off. I'm not a fan of LJL and he shouldn't be first choice in my opinion, but having someone like him to come on in a game like that is invaluable. Good squad player for circumstances like today, and that's how he should be used i think.

Think LJL showed his worth today. And that's the point for me, he is the right fit for certain games but he shouldn't be first striker on the team sheet for every game. Bringing him off the bench today seemed a much better move, let someone run their socks off in the striking role then stick Shop on for the last 20-25 and tell him to put himself about.
Perhaps a more pressing concern will now be how to get Jennings integrated into our play more effectively?

I can't remember who wrote it, or on which thread, but someone very recently wrote that all this focus on our 'misfiring' strikers was actually drawing attention away from our recent poor defensive record.  Not that I want Shaun Pearson (hell, no!) or any of our other defenders to become the new scapegoat, but that comment about our defence did plant a question in my mind.  Are we really struggling as a team to score goals this season?  Does it actually matter who scores our goals, as long as they get scored?  Paul Hurst said he wasn't too bothered as long as the goals come from somewhere.

Obviously we don't have a prolific striker like Hearn or Connell, but is that necessarily a bad thing, if other players manage to chip in and do their bit?  If we were relying mainly on Hearn this season to score our goals, wouldn't we be totally in the s**t as soon as he got injured?

It doesn't feel like we've had a goal drought to me, and I don't remember coming away from many games without having seen us score at least once, but I thought I'd better have a quick look at Rob's wonderful stats, just to confirm.  Interesting to compare this year's 'goal-less games' record to date with that of previous seasons.

We don't have too bad a defensive record, but the problem is that when strikers don't score, it's puts more pressure on the rest of the team to keep a clean sheet. We have drawn many games we should have won and lost games we should have drawn because of a lack of goals. Someone finishing our chances like Gregory at Halifax would not only have secured a play off spot long ago, we'd still be in with a chance of the title.

In 98 we scored intercourse all, but we had a great back five and goals all through the team. IIRC Davison kept a record number of clean sheets that year and yet Donovan excepted, our strikers only just got into double figures.
The point is, if we continue to keep clean sheets we will go up almost in spite of how many we score.

I don't think we were anywhere near top spot with either Liam Hearn or Alan Connell in the team, and I think it's fair to say that we considered them both to be quite prolific.

We came 4th last season.  Last year, after 37 league games we had scored 54 goals.  We have scored 55 so far this season.  That would suggest our goal-scoring skills might be marginally better now.

Our defensive record doesn't seem to have improved, however.  Someone else had probably check the stats as I may have got it wrong, but as far as I can tell, last season after 37 league games we had conceded 30 goals.  This season we have conceded 38.

I am now wondering why everyone is so obsessed with who is scoring goals and how many, and completely ignoring the fact that it might be our defence that is not quite up to scratch.

Totally agree there Marinette. Last season you felt confident in our defence holding out a 1-0 lead but with this seasons defence you always feel there is an error waiting to happen. Personally I am not concerned who scores but right now we look like having 3 midfielders who have or will potentially hit double figures which is a fantastic return.

Nobody is saying the strikers aren't good enough. They aren't scoring enough, granted.
I don't get how some of you get off on the fact we haven't actually won this league. To win the league it you need aa good pair of strikers scoring goals.
This isnt the third division. One team goes up. One team is guaranteed promotion. We aren't that team, therefore we've failed. The playoffs will give us a lifeline, hopefully well get into them.
The fact is, people are drunk off by the fact that after 3 years the midfield has still not been addressed and the football that's been played this season hasn't been helping the strikers. It was obvious even when we were top last season that the midfield wasn't up to scratch.
The strikers at the club can and will score goals, just not in this team.

That's the problem though. In the seasons when we have had a prolific striker, the defence hasn't been as tight. Last year, we had a very good defence and a not so prolific striker as previous seasons, which enabled us to top the league for a while. This year, the defence isn't quite as good and the strikers are not really performing either. The midfield players are the ones keeping us in touch with their goals. Rodman has scored winners in each of our last 2 away games. We can't seem to get it right at both ends at the same time. I wonder how we would have fared this season and last with a fit and firing Hearn?

We'd probably be at the top of League 2 now if Hearn continued his incredible 2011-12 form through to 2012-13 and then this year (admittedly a very big if to sustain such performance without anyone coming in for him!).
