Another game on Thursday, and again on Saturday. Expect the full squad to be used over the week.

Mcdonald hasn't featured - surely he'd be worth a place on the bench, especially with no specialist centre back on the bench. Must be injured or ill?

Who's more likely to get you a goal if you really need one ? Paddy or Colbeck? Cook or Tounkara? I'm all for using the squad to best effect but playing McLaughlin for the last two games and getting him playing well and scoring and then leaving him out of the squad altogether just seems absurd to me.

Exactly. I'm sure he will be. Several players will be selected for all games this week, you watch. Most of them older than Paddy.
This isn't sbout resting players.

It's not a case of everybody taking turns is it? He's picking what he feels is the best team for each game which has worked pretty well recently. He clearly regards players such as Pearson and Disley as very important and wants them in the team whenever posdible. I see nothing wrong with that. Some omissions do seem odd and I hope he's handling those left out carefully as they could well all be needed over the next few weeks.

Why? Fyfield can play CB and LB. He might not be as good as Clayton McDonald but he offers more versatility from the bench. PH sees Thanoj as a better replacement at CM than McLaughlin and has a specialised winger already on the bench. Rodman can be switched to the other flank if needed. I imagine Cook's out because he hasn't earnt his place.

I really can't wait until Hurst finds a replacement for him. I have just about had enough of us building a team around a striker who misses 95% of his chances.

It sounded like we were getting some joy with Thomas heading down the wings and crossing into the box.  Now, every other phrase from JT seems to be "lifted", which I think is his euphemism for hoofing it up in the air.  Let's hope this changes in the last five minutes.
Posted by: Chrisblor, April 8, 2014, 9:31pm; Reply: 63
Hurst hasn't got a clue what his best team is, nor does he have any idea to improve our pathetic goalscoring record.

Right now we rely on our midfield to score goals for us and pray that our defenders are capable of keeping clean sheets. Midfielders won't score in every game, nor will we keep clean sheets all the time either. This means our absolutely flipping useless strikers have to contribute more to the team than 'winning headers' or 'pressuring defenders' if we want to get promoted, but I really don't see it being a problem Hurst is capable of resolving.

The biggest positive tonight was Tounkara actually carving out and scoring a chance for himself. He must start the next game after that. The rest of it, well I don't even know where to start. 16.9% of penalties are missed when taken by attacking players, so well done to LJL for showing such resolve in overcoming those huge odds.

If i am wrong i apologise, but i assume the fact that you have shown 'such resolve'
in italics means sarcasm, i d'ont know if you have ever played the game, but i can
assure you that total 'resolve' was required there, so give credit where credit is
due - i have seen England forwards hide in penalty shootouts, which is basically
what LJL faced tonight - well done Lenny - you deserved that moment for all the
effort you have put in this season.

Team selection tells me we're happy with a point tonight - but another Rodman special will do nicely.

Mission accomplished - no Rodman special

Ouch!

Not quite, though 'Tonk' scored I think bringing on Colbeck instead of Nielson is just insane. Hursts squad selections are mystfying and I don't think we can ignore that despite somehow drawing today, we were still poor and incredibly lucky in the end. Do you think any of the sides we'll face in the play-offs would allow that to happen? Hurst still has a lot to answer for.

Oh but fair play to LJL for having the skittles, but yet again we shouldn't over look an otherwise bad performance from him, again.

I read it as sarcasm too. I have to say, if someone can't appreciate and enjoy something as exhilarating as a last minute vital penalty going in then I'm not sure what part of footie they do enjoy. I'm pleased to say that I can enjoy it and I'm delighted tonight.

Of course i'm happy he scored and we equalised, but I don't think scoring a penalty makes up for all the chances he has missed this season.

Do you think he realises that his shattering of players confidence and ruining any momentum is a huge reason as to why we were excrement tonight?

5 games in 11 days. I don't think it is either insane or mystifying to take a player off during this 'insane' period of the season when very important playoffs games are around the corner.

10 points out of 12- you have a lot to answer for hurst.

I don't think anybody suggested it did, everyone just giving him credit for having the balls to take it, and rightly so.

If he'd shattered the confidence of so many players then how come we're sat comfortably in the play offs, unbeaten in 4. Woking are the form team in the league and from what I heard we were the better team and deserved a point as an absolute minimum.

Haha - says the man ignoring the fact we're on a really good run of results. If Paddy Mac has had his confidence destroyed can you explain him coming into the team last Tuesday and scoring the winner?

It sounds ludicrous but I genuinely believe part of ypu wants us to fail so you can do your 'I told you so' routine.

We're 3rd in the league, lost twice in 10 games. Some of you need a reality check.

First time I have used the vote up comment thingys!

Am not sure why some are so eager to bash Hurst, seem ready to scour around for something to complain about.  We still have a very busy period to come but are in a very good position now so lets focus on the positives.  To quote the oldest football cliche around you take it one game at a time, if we are in the playoff's we will be playing different teams with different levels of expectations and we shall have to play accordingly.  Tonight we played one of the form teams in the league and from twice looking at defeats came back, that suggests at least something positive to me!

We'd be upset if they'd given up. 4 points is a cushion with games in hand on the teams chasing the playoffs.

It's not that pretty, but it's doing something right.

Playing the form team in the league and came back twice to get a point, it's a good result & 1 more point to securing our play off place.

The trouble is that the old saying of 'the cream will come to the top' normally
applies in football as well, i cannot for one moment  diss the effort of the
players and coaching staff at GTFC, but we are very unimpressive in 2014,
lacking in quality and not looking like a side on the up, i just feel sadly, that
effort will not be enough, even if we do qualify for the play offs i feel we will
fall short - as usual, i always qualify this with ' i hope i am wrong'!

If what you saw tonight (if indeed you were there) equates to your definition of "shite" then I really would advise you to find a new hobby.
Over this next week we will truly see the value of rotating the squad...

PontoonLew..confidante to all the players. His door is always open if you want to pop round for a cup of tea and shed loads of sympathy after you've had your confidence brutally shattered....

Crikey that's very harsh. We were much the better team tonight, some of the build up play was very good again and we stopped the opposition making it 7 wins in a row.

Of course the lack of a cutting edge may come back to bite us in the play offs, but I think tonights point will be seen as one gained in the end.

On the other side of the coin, I would be very disappointed with Hurst if its true that he is angry with the fans for not feeling the same about LJL as he obviously does.Everyone around me, and indeed me didn't want him to take the penalty. So what? A striker out of "form" (although I think he is one of those players who never is actually "in" form), who cannot hit a barn door is not my idea of someone who should take a crucial penalty.

However I must applaud Lewis for having the guts to take it.

It does makes sense.

Jon McLaughlan, our current goalie, is a liability. He's outta contract in the summer and we'll be in the market for a new one.

A lot of our fans thought it was gonna be Craig MacGillvray of Harrogate Town - watched by numerous Championship clubs - we still might sign him.

Our fans seem to think we've been watching Paddy McLaughlan too?

In fairness taking a penalty as well as he did in the 95th minute requires Balotelli-esque levels of bottle to equalise in an important game.

Don't know what game you went to tonight Lew,was you there or just listening in to RH ?.   I really enjoyed it,thought we played some good football. I think people tend to watch to much premier league on the box, for me thats boring, would sooner get my ar$e to these games at BP and as many aways as possible, much more unpredictable and exciting..

Oh good, at least we would get a fee for him if we d'ont go up, i think you will
find it would be hard for Macca to turn down a club the size of Bradford and i
think his missus would be finishing her uni course at either Leeds or Bradford, or
he will be buying her a car!

We nearly signed him from Newcastle on loan a couple of years ago. He signed for York and we scouted him and almost signed him in January 2013. We've scouted him more often than not, tbh.

He seemed to go off the radar when he signed for yourselves - that coupled with our promotion.

There may be more to it, who knows?

Not good enough or fit enough, disappears out of games.

According to the York fans he was a well known sick note, much like Doig and Kerr to some extent.
