Amond tweets "come on the lads" again. Last time he did that he was on the bench.

Town unbeaten in four games on Non-League day. Played four won three drawn one. Let's extend both unbeaten runs today. Come on Town!

Hope Tomlinson finally bags one, would prefer Amond as I personally think he's well above this level but in the same breath we looked worse when Tomlinson went off against Gateshead so his hard work obviously compliments the team. Come on lads keep this run going!

Can we please just end this experiment with Tomlinson up front, there is zero link up play again between him and the other striker, its not like its his first game any more he's been training with Bogle for weeks now and they don't know how to link up with each other get Amond one who can play along side Bogle

Does seem strange and pointless playing tomlinson when you have a better srtiker on the bench in amond.

The understanding between amond and bogle was very promising.

Robertson off and Tait on

Seems a bit odd just before half time....you'd have thought maybe they could have checked them out in the interval but subbing them now limits our options for the second half

All square at the break

Disappointing all round as we've now got 45 minutes of not being able to change much around and also those injuries this afternoon could have an effect on the Tuesday night game

I'd be happy to see this one out as it is - a point this afternoon won't be a disaster but we need to keep our focus and not do anything rash ( such as the Tomlinson yellow )

If we can come through unscathed then we can re-group for Tuesday for Halifax, hopefully with not too weakened a squad
Posted by: springstomind, October 10, 2015, 3:59pm; Reply: 30
I think it would be asking for trouble to bring Amond on and use that last sub so soon, but I'd get getting round Tomlinson at half time telling him more required with his hold up and first touch and to calm the challenges.  It'll be interesting to see what Tait has to offer, he came here with good praise, was dubbed a starter over "utility man" East in pre season and he was decent ore season too. I hope he takes his chance.

At this point following injuries and the way both teams are playing I've got to agree with a number of posters a draw would be good, hopefully we can still steal a win.

If it's pulled muscles for the two of them, could mean a few weeks out, I'd have thought. If so, we'd be almost down the bare bones defensively in one fell swoop!

Let's hope it isn't anything too serious. The defenders we have out there ought to be able to do a decent job, however.

2 early subs limits our attacking options later. Only Amond or Marshall can come on now.  If you start with your strongest 11/best forward players then you have more options.

I am expecting us to go 0-1 between 60 and 70 mins.  Amond will replace Tomlinson, the team will wake up and we'll scrape an equaliser.

But it would be better if they played like they were 0-1 down now, rather than settling for a point.

I only have the commentary to go on but from what I can gather Tomlinson is a more physical hard working, defend-from-the-front type of player. We've certainly conceded very few goals while he's been in the side. FWIW I would prefer Amond, just trying to offer an explanation.

Thing is paul hurst harps on about not ever wanting to bring players in to disrupt the team and for the sake of it.

Well this is one which completely goes against what he says.

Amond was out for a few games so we needed a loan , fair enough we get tomlinson in and he plays thats fine but he never did anything special to suggest amond shouldnt just walk back in.

It just doesnt feel right that he keeps his place week on week especially as he is a loan player and not ours.

Havent see him play but PH likes his teams to launch it up the middle - Tomlinson is playing to hold it up?
But you already knew that, surely  ;)

You build your team around Amond and Bogle for me. If theyre not good enough to make the team now, what do they need to do to be good enough?

Yes but he has still decided to start with Tomlinson who is inept and Monkhouse who maybe wins a header or two. I can understand his hands are a little tied with one sub left in the 2nd half but theres not even an attempt to chance the system which isn't working with his final sub choice.

Far too rational. Win on Tuesday and that'll be 2 points a game average for the last 10 - hardly shocking. Then Torquay after that. Could well be 6 points from the next 2 and then big game against Cheltenham.

We get what, ten times as many fans as Braintree - yet we cant assemble a team that can beat them. Easily.

FFS ! What the f**k has our support got to do with the result ! FGR have been top for most of the time with the population of Nailsworth about 6,500. On that basis you could argue that Bournemouth have no right to win any matches in the Premiersh*t as their ground only holds 12,500 , a lot less than other teams in that league.

Well it sounds grim stuff but it also sounds like one of those games where one goal would be enough. Maybe the brave away followers can say if Town were more concerned with not conceding it than scoring it. Certainly sounded that way.

There is no need to swear. I don't think your able to grasp what Im getting at. Maybe I should have based my question on money and not fans then?
I wasn't just refering to this particular result, we always struggle against them.
If I was a Manchester United fan, I would expect my team to beat Grimsby Town. Why? Basically because the Manchester team spends more money and attracts better players. Grimsby might beat Manchester, a one off, but for Manchester to regularly struggle against the Grimsby team would baffle their fans. Surely.
Bournemouth aren't actually winning any matches? Forest Green have loads of money? Bournemouth have loads of money

That was a difficult game and it's clear to see why they haven't conceded many goals. Hurst had his hands tied before half time and made the change with Marshall which could have backfired if we had any more injuries. Better to draw than lose. I'm glad I came as I detest listening to the negative JT. It wasn't that bad! UTM

Amound is this seasons Andy Cook why flipping sign the bloke? Him and bogle were building a good partnership but tinker bell has copulated that now, the sooner Tomlinson felicitations off the better.

Looked distinctively average today. Arnold a completely different player to Tuesday. Slightly worried about Gregor, not so about Gowling, Toto is IMO a better player anyway. East has been poor for a number of weeks now, if Gregor is fit for Tuesday I'd leave him out. Average game and a draw a fair result. MOM Diz for me.

Gowling has been better than Pearson all season IMO

I was just going to post that I'll wait and see what the just back thread has to say about the game ,as I could imagine JT would make a pi$$up in a brewery sound like a dire event.

Lets all get ready for another TOUGH GAME against Halifax, a team with the worst goal difference in the league of MINUS 16.

I expect Hurst to be telling us with all our injury problems that a draw will be a good result ?

Result ok. Soft pitch and long grass. A point today is ok if we win Tuesday. Then we roll on to Torquay 10 games unbeaten. Keep the faith it's a marathon..

I was hoping we wouldn't be hearing about the pitch afterwards.

a) we've known what their pitch is like for 5 years now, it is no surprise.
and
b) the pitch is the same for both teams

However, they play on that pitch every other week, we don't!

"Perfectly acceptable result" is just the sort of balderdash statement and acceptance of failure that has come from the very top of our club all the way down to a lot of our fans and the reason we are still in this excrement league.
It's NOT acceptable to play excrement and only get 1 point from teams like today's opponents and it's NOT acceptable to be in the position we are in the league at the moment.

I look at it this way, no point in rocking the boat while we still have a realistic chance of promotion ( playoffs included ) and we really do at this stage. The club has too much money, hope and emotion invested in Hurst and his team. When and only when promotion is unattainable then Hurst has to be history ( he has had long enough ).. You never know, he might just get us promoted.

So we all agree if hurst doesnt take us up this season its time for a fresh look at it all ?

And if he does he deserves time in league 2 to get his team together no doubt ?

Im Town through and through and wish him all the best in our promotion charge or more of a plod but cant see him having what it takes.

So, if we win promotion this season, you think we should sack the manager? Strange.

No maringer read what i put again ,if he takes us up he deserves his chance to have a go in league 2.

But imo it wont happen because he hasnt got what it takes to take us up.

His decision making is like playing Russian roulette with our promotion chances and so far this season he seems to be more unpredictable than ever.

Ah, I read it as a rhetorical question and thought you were just being a bit pithy. No worries.

Unbeaten in 9 is good, but too many draws, that's for sure. Fewer wins than any of the other teams in the top half of the table, though we should undoubtedly have won at least 2 or 3 of those games. Should isn't quite good enough at the moment.

Hurst's tenure in a nutshell.

You know what my mate said to me last night and i think he was spot on.

Hurst would be a cracking manager at say a macclesfield or a gateshead were the expectation isnt just quite there and the pressure is no way near what it is here.

I just dont think he has the ingredient needed to take a club like ours up were the fans deserve and quite rightly expect more from his teams.

We sit seventh currently but you have to agree after operation promotion we all expected more , not that paul would ever admit that.

This clubs fans and chairman who isnt really chairman has stuck by him year on year , its now his time to deliver but sadly i just dont ever think he will as he aint got that extra bit of something needed.

There has always been something missing, he has never clicked with the fans and his selections have always been quite strange at times..

he has always had a power struggle here like he has to show the fans he is the manager and its his way remember it started in his first few games with when our current top scorer at the time alan connell always subbed on about 70 mins then sometimes dropped.

He has always had an obsession in chopping and changing the strikers to show some kind of statement, strange because i think if he adapted he could be a decent manager just not at a big club like ours.

He's defaulted back to his modus operandi of being hard to beat, dull as dishwater and one dimensional. Gone those halcyon early season days of free flowing, exciting football that provided goals galore but also the lack of solidity at the back. We know which he prefers,  I know which I prefer. He never was going to change, it's just his way. It's not the Grimsby Town way. He should have gone 2 years ago.

Everyone entitled to an opinion but truth of the matter is PH will not be sacked anytime soon, we are 9 unbeaten and still in touch with the top teams ( admittedly i feel we should be a lot closer). but fenty and the board have backed Hurst through tougher times than this and they will not get rid whilst we are in this position. We arent playing well and we arent winning enough but only when there isnt enough time left to catch the top- or we lose the PO's again- is the right time for Paul to go, However i would love to see him take us up, he may be stubborn and not everyones cup of tea, but he cares a lot about this club. big game tuesday for what should be a routine 3 points! We win and a couple around us lose and its looking rosier again

I doubt if the board like the way things are going any more than the supporters do but I have to agree with Hagrid (for once ;)) that there is no way he will be dismissed as things stand.

However, that should not stop supporters from making comments about leopards and spots.

He does not see what everyone else finds obvious, Podge and Omar should start when fit and we need to use the flanks by picking wide players and not "utility" players like Monkhouse. We where shocking going forward yesterday fecking clueless.......!

Said it all along he was a defender, his assistant manager was a defender and the physio was too, where's the attacking know how both in selection and tac tics.

The manager and board needs to realise that we have a high expectation level because we get good gates at home and take exceptional numbers away, the fans are passionate and at the very least expect the best side to be picked and they get the ball down and pass it usually the rest looks after itself.

PH is not going anywhere soon but he needs to look at the table and feel embarrassed that the likes of Dover and Bromley are above and Lincoln just behind with a game in hand.

The gap at the top is getting bigger again, I watched FGR the other night and they look a good team and will be difficult to catch, we have to start turning these draws into wins.
