C,Mon Town, a chance to close the gap today.

Just got to ground and it's bloody freezing. Good job I put 2 coats on.

A nice 3.0 win will do me. ;)

Agreed Ginny...too many average signings.

Get rid of half the team whoever signed these players needs shooting lol.

Same team as Lincoln except Robertson in for Townsend. East returns to bench.

Same team as Lincoln....except no Townsend at all. Robertson comes in for him. Very strange. East returns to bench.

Why strange? He came off injured and hasn't recovered.

Sorry, didn't know he was injured, I didn't see the Lincoln game. Fair enough then.

He picked up a knock in the first half and was finally replaced by Robertson in the 50th minute

Typical Town. 40 minutes of pressure on them with no end product then they go and score.
Posted by: Meza, January 2, 2016, 3:49pm; Reply: 22
Without seeing their goal I can't comment.  C'mon town.  Im assuming they are playing 10 men behind the ball.  If they are we always struggle against these teams.
Posted by: chicaneuk, January 2, 2016, 3:50pm; Reply: 23
Why does this always happen with town? Random bit of play that comes totally against the run of play, and you can almost always guarantee they'll make a goal out of it!

Hope this wakes the squad up in the same way it did against Solihull Moors the other week - we went 1-0 down and were 3-1 up about 10 minutes later!
Posted by: Hagrid, January 2, 2016, 3:51pm; Reply: 24
Hardly typical town is it. We havent conceded for 4 games ffs. Sick of the so called fans at BP today who havent shut up slating the team. Monkhouse and Bogle getting unfair critiscm constanty. Funniest one was Guisley are so much better than us. Why is it so hard for fans to get behind us. Cue the boos....

HT.

Clay disley arnold all well below par , we are just being to soft up front.
Posted by: cmackenzie4, January 2, 2016, 3:53pm; Reply: 26
To be fair to them they are closing us down well, we just need more cutting edge and I'm sure we'll get our chance.
Posted by: chaos33, January 2, 2016, 3:53pm; Reply: 27
Sounds like quite a few below par individual performances and concern that we haven't really created a chance against a patently poor team. Can't afford to slip up today so they better get their finger out.
Posted by: jonnyboy82, January 2, 2016, 3:53pm; Reply: 28
Hagrid The guy who said guisley so much better than us needs to get his head tested.

Its a case of us just not being at it and if we step it up we can easily win this.

After a good start bogle has been quite anonymous.
Posted by: Maringer, January 2, 2016, 3:54pm; Reply: 29
Belter of a goal but we've been absolutely bloody rubbish throughout the team. Bogle's first touch has been appalling, Amond and Arnold not involved and we look so, so slow throughout the team.

Guiseley hard-working but very limited up front, but it could well be enough to beat us on a performance like this.

Change in formation/approach/personnel required, I feel!

I thought we started well maringer but agree we have looked slow as the game went on.

I would look at clay or disley if making subs they have looked as slow and off it as anyone.

predictable passing...midfield too deep leaving strikers outnumbered....centre halves need to carry the ball out and draw them out to free up space....THIS IS WHY WE NEED A CREATIVE CENTRE MID

When you're relying on Toto or Gowling to thread a 40-yard pass into the feet of the strikers, you know you've got a problem with the way the team is playing.
Posted by: jonnyboy82, January 2, 2016, 4:05pm; Reply: 36
Totally agree clay and disley both very similar and when you need that pass or creative play they havent got it, they will run all day and graft but limited on attacking play.

Similar was said on bt sport by the commenatry against lincoln actually.

Midfield not good enough, nothing changes. Dis and Monkey in the same midfield means the others have to do more running.

And that my friends is why we have no chance of the title !

Any team that comes to park the bus are guaranteed to take something from Blundell Park. Nobody in the team is able to open these sides up, no creativity or guile. We are so predictable doing the same things time after time expecting a different outcome !

Better get ready for the lottery of the play offs.

That was a waste of my time and money !

Ah well.  All sounded a bit "After the Lord Mayor's Show" following Lincoln.

I'm looking forward to going to Welling on Saturday now.  Firstly, it's a decent away day at a good ground with a good bar and the seafood shack.  Secondly, the players will be well up for putting today's result to bed with a good win. Thirdly, should be a good Town contingent and a positive atmosphere to get behind the team.

Wow what a game, and what a great team we have.
Dont know how our players manage to play at such a great intensity with break neck  speed from back to front.
Midfield were totally outstanding today and any ine of them could be playing a league or two higher for sure !
Cant wait for the next exciting full blooded game , its such a shame we only managed to attract a measley 5,000 supporters 😞
Looking foreard to hopefully making the play offs fingers crossed, although on that performance i cant understand why we are not romping away for the title 🤔
Any way, woukd love to stay and chat more but its now time for my medication 🤒

I'd like to say we desperately need a proper creative midfielder. But we've said that every season and every season we just end up with the same mould of player.

Shouldn't let today take away what has been a good month previously though. But we are lacking something still.

Clay is mediocre beyond belief. Barrow, Alfreton, Halifax and Worksop all let him go. We build a team around him.

May as well give Cheltenham the the title now, please don't allow hurst near the loan market, once we are confirmed in the playoffs we can then blood some of our youngsters into the team and see if they have what it takes for next season in the conference.
Posted by: chaos33, January 2, 2016, 6:08pm; Reply: 61
Clay is steady at best but he gets in every week because Brown is so poor and can't dislodge him. A better central midfielder desperately needed. Disley isn't blameless either. How many goals (or assists for that matter) have Clay and Disley got between them this season?

We can't expect to keep getting away with it. Lord knows what Mackreth has done to never get a game (and I'd like to hear Hurst explain why he won't give him a chance) so we really could use at least one wide midfielder too. I agree that a ten point gap looks too big to overturn, even with a game in hand. You just can't afford to drop points at home to sh1t teams at this stage of the season when you're trying to play catch up.

So let me get this straight ..

Some looking for a hurst out bashing argument when there isnt one , we have just won 6 and drawn 1 in our last 7 so the people who are looking for something that aint there should go and have an argument with themselves.

Town were below par today but having just won six on the bounce how can we really criticise.

Im usually called a hurst basher but its the pro hurst idiots now who are looking for something that isnt there  ;D

We are crying out for a creative midfielder, Brown did a nice turn in about the 80th minute which cut them open and we ended up fluffing a great chance, if we had that creative midfielder it would make all the difference imo, feel very frustrated at the moment, they were the for the taking, that's the poorest side I've seen at Blundell park this season.

But therein lies the problem. He get's us close, then we blow it. I think we've been a tad lucky lately and only Amond has been keeping us ticking over. Our luck ran out today and there is always that frustratingly poor performance, especially at home, just around the corner.

Just to clarify, this is not a Hurst out post.  ;)

Just a little reminder that the game before the run was lost at home to the team we look unlikely to catch. Question is, are you satisfied with a play-off spot again because that seems to be the limit of our capability.
Posted by: cmackenzie4, January 2, 2016, 6:35pm; Reply: 70
It was their tactics (cheating & time wasting) admittedly they did close us down but they created nothing and were poor in every department.

OK, point taken. What is important is how we respond. What I've been told is that this is a pivotal season for the club and what's for sure is that the fans have been amazingly loyal and turned out in bigger numbers than for some time. Therefore, it's not just about the players' response - it's about how the board go about finance in the transfer window, are they happy that the budget is sufficient to challenge for the title or is there some slack from the recent great attendances to bolster the kitty?

5,000 there today just after xmas and on the back of another home game so the support is their..

A couple of quality signings are needed and decent investment if needed as i agree this is a pivotal season for us and paul hurst.

Whatever money we have should be invested in a midfielder a winger and a striker and they need to be ready to go !
