Opposition is all Boshells and Atkinson.  Any of them ex Town?  Hurst also playing for them?  That will incense the Fishy - Hurst out!!

2 points against Guiseley in 2 games says why we are third and not challenging for the title. Wonder what their budget is John?
Posted by: Mariner_09, March 15, 2016, 9:39pm; Reply: 108
Guiseley twice, Torquay twice, away at Kiddy, home to Boreham Wood, away at Altrincham, away at Halifax. We're not going to get promoted automatically with those results. We've dropped 18 points against sides in the bottom seven. We evolve the team but the fundamental principles remain. Start games and seasons slowly, fail to be sides in the lower reaches of the league.

Point - play offs - yep!

Why has this club got so many people on the bench (little chance of playing) that are not going to the enhance the chances of a victory? It suits Town to stay in this division and, financially, why not?

Posted by: Maringer, March 15, 2016, 9:45pm; Reply: 115
Obviously, a disappointing result, but a good indicator of why we won't get close to the title this season.

FGR have played Guiseley twice, scored 4 and conceded none: 6 points.
Cheltenham stuffed them 5-0 at home so 3 points already and what's the betting they win their away game there later in the season?

In comparison, we've conceded 3 goals against Guiseley and have therefore won just 2 points.

Credit to Guiseley for decent enough performances against us, but we really needed to win at least 1 of the games and  preferably both. We're just not quite good enough at either end of the field.

At least it makes my mind up for Saturday. As a season ticket holder who can not get to mid week matches I have missed about half of the games and so I do not feel inclined to pay to watch Bognor . I think we lack attacking fullbacks and the inevitable loss of Townsend hurt us. Add to this not much from the wings and we do not look great. I was hoping that we would sign a target man and a winger and a pacey full back and we got none. The window was decisive for me. All is not lost as outside of the top 2 none of the teams are up to much ( us included) and so we have a shout but we are not playing well at the moment

I actually disagree about the full-backs. All of them are perfectly capable going forward even though Robertson and Horwood may lack a little pace. The issue is more with our wingers who aren't good enough/consistent enough (much the same thing, I suppose). Arnold is fantastic on his day, anonymous when not on song which has been all too often this season. Monkhouse OK, but slow. Marshall, terribly disappointing.

You're not wrong about Townsend, obviously. A better full-back than any other in the Conference as well as a better attacker than most of the wingers here as well! He's far too good for this level which is why he's not with us.

But when did he last have a bad game - dumped with Omar? Should have been on the bench tonight at least. Can't understand the mentality of having players that have a good pre-season and then discard them. Having said that, I can if the objective is to stay in this division.

I think the players have to play their part too Pete,  IMO he chose a strong team  tonight and to only get a draw was disappointing against lower opposition, he said in his interview post match that the instructions he gave from the line were not being carried out to his satisfaction

Ah, come on. Marshall has been completely ineffective pretty much since the season began. He may have only had a few starts but he's made 15 appearances in the League this season and his record stands at no goals and no assists. He's surely had enough playing time to do something this season, but I can't remember anything much myself.

I'm not saying that he shouldn't be in the squad, but I wouldn't expect anything from him if he was!

I think the players have to play their part too Pete,  IMO he chose a strong team  tonight and to only get a draw was disappointing against lower opposition, he said in his interview post match that the instructions he gave from the line were not being carried out to his satisfaction

Someone else at fault then as per usual  :)

We've played way worse than that and won. It's frustrating but it was a case of missing a lot of chances. We should have had 6 or 7 and some of the headed chances wasted were criminal. Disley should have had a hattrick.

He's injured. And he's lazy, no thanks

He wasn't lazy (and injured) earlier this season, when I saw him in 2 games - he played well and displayed a lot of sharpness and talent. Presumably that's why he was signed for the second time. Not seen any stories  /evidence he's injured - not documented. Don't buy it  - where is he?

Yup! PH can kick the ball about all night but it won`t change the score, I was not at the game but apparently their two goals could easily have been avoided, Hursts fault?

If they didn,t do what he said I can see us having a strong youth training squad. Wrong midfield picked again----he just has to play his recent signings G only knows why. The new signings are just not good enough !

Marshall has a knee injury. I read he may need a scan to assess.

Jesus, if you're going to make such bold statements at least read the one or two news sources that we have available. He's flipping INJURED and has been for the last week or so.

Any other players who Hurst doesn't play that you want to dig up? Or past players? I tell you what, if only Andy Cook, Hannah, Thomas, Neilson, Mackreth and Brown were playing last night eh? We would've definitely won and we'd probably be winning the league if we had them all season too. BOO HURST OUT!

If Marshall is the answer, then i don't want to ask the question.

It's sort of slipped under the radar a bit in all the discussions post last night but I think the "answer" could well have turned out to be Monkhouse. We missed him last night.

Exactly. I'll back all of our players and want them all to do well, of course. But when people are bringing up players that simply have not delivered this season when given the chance (nevermind the fact that they're injured) and using them as a stick to beat Hurst with, it's just ridiculous.

The times Marshall has started in the FA Trophy/reserves, people were saying he looked poor and uninterested and not like a player who is trying to break into the first team. Now he's the saviour according to some people. The wingers we have been using the most have played their part in us being 3rd in the league....would Marshall being involved more have improved that league position?

Hi all,

Guiseley fan in peace. Just to say thanks to everyone who came on Tuesday - it was our most complicated game of the season what with our little ground in the midst of DIY-SOS-style improvements to be graded appropriately by the end of the month. (We can thank the council for sitting on our applications for roughly two years for that.)

I've never seen so many hi-vis jackets in Nethermoor at once! But it was a good game and a good atmosphere. Neither team defended their box brilliantly so it was a fun match. Sorry it was a frustrating result. I thought you looked good going forward. We've been demolished by Bogle before in his Solihull days so were extra nervous when he came on.

With any luck we won't see you next March Boxing Day. We know how painful the playoffs can be but if that is to be your path then all the best with it - there's a few clubs in your position (i.e. really shouldn't be in the Conference) but probably none with a stronger case than you. All the best for the rest of the season!
