Hurst on TV now saying Town WILL NOT win the league.  Way to go Paul, thats how you install confidence in your team

Hurst was worrying about the height in Cheltenham's team the other day so he's probably stuck Toto in at right-back because he's taller than Tait :o

Something like that..

I want him to say we're going to keep trying to win automatic promotion until it's mathematically impossible. I don't want him to entertain thoughts of settling for second best.

...but he's being realistic? Why doesn't he just say we're going to bid for Messi in the summer?

Because winning tonight, winning our games in hand and then gaining 2 more points than FGR and Cheltenham over the rest of the season is significantly more likely than us signing the best footballer in the World.

Of course the odds aren't in our favour for automatic promotion, but it's certainly not impossible at this stage and as such he shouldn't be saying we can't do it. It's so pessimistic.

PH is absolutely right.

We are unlikely to win the league, so say so.Why put pressure on himself and team?

What he tells his players will be different.

Also, maybe he's just playing it down to take the pressure off. We all know this is must win.

He doesn't have to say "YEAH WE'RE GOING TO WIN THE LEAGUE", he just needs to go "it's unlikely, but we'll keep trying until it's impossible". Telling everyone publicly he doesn't think we'll win the league is so uninspiring.

I don't understand the lack of trust in Tait, who has been very good all season, just to put a square peg in a round hole. Tait is much more composed, better technically and positionally, on the deck, passing, supporting attacks, crossing....but no....Toto for superior height. Defensive, tentative, speculative, unconfident. What a message to give to Tait and the supporters, especially coupled with the remarks about not believing we can win the title prior to the game. What kind of ethos is this?! Think like a winner man!!!!

I understand setting up to neutralise the opposition's strengths, but Hurst nearly always takes it too far and ends up weakening our own team instead.

I said that Grimsby would be found out at Forest Green and I still stand by that statement. We were second best that night and nicked a goal.
Someone on the away coach had overheard me and ranted at me before we set off home talking as if Grimsby Town were the best team since sliced bread.
Well now we are getting found out... found out to be a mile and a half behind the best two teams in this division. There is a long way to go to be good enough for the football league I am afraid.
We have passionate and loyal fans following an average and sometimes poor team that cannot seem to go that extra mile to get us our much desired promotion.
It is easy for people to blame the manager but that is unfair. The truth of the matter is, we just don't have enough money to buy good enough players to compete. Even at this lowly level!
It is incredibly sad with the history we have behind us!

We might as well get Tait and Stewart (for Toto and Monkhouse) on and give it a go.  A draw's about as useful as a defeat so have a go at them and if we end up losing, it's no big deal and it keeps Cheltenham out of the play-offs.

I think our best chance is to throw this game by a few goals, its obvious that we cant compete with Cheltenham. Hope they go on to win the league cos I fancy our chances against forest green more than these in the play offs.. Forest green win the league and we're bolloxed!

Maybe they have a good manager that knows what he's doing ?

Well that was dire !

45 minutes of my life I will never get back !

What the fook is Monkhouse on the pitch for ?

We played ok for 4 minutes and 38 seconds !

Something needs to change and soon.

Nsiala playing right back..

Monkhouse walks in on the back of what ?

arnold been anoymous again and happening far to often for my liking.

Just a few small points which could do with an answer , no tempo no energy but what will be the excuse this time ?

Second half now will show if anything what desire we have because i cant stand a monday morning chestnut read in the telegraph from disley or pearson saying we wont give up , i have heard it six seasons running with nowt to show for it apart from a tinpot cup final.

The wall didn't jump because Pell was stood over the ball as well and ony hits low free kicks so thye will of been told not to jump if he is there.

We didn't look good again untill we started attack after the goal.

Toto at RB isn't working.

Monkhouse has practically been playing left back

Nolan one of the few briht tlights so far.

That pitch is a disgrace, theres a ploughed field at the back of my house with less holes and bumps in it

Yes but Pell originally lined up to hit it? The players would have already agreed to stay grounded

ffs Pell had already dummied the free kick and it was obvious the other player was going to hit it. There is absolutely no excuse for not jumping, the goal is entirely on Monkhouse for letting it sail over his bonce.

I want to see hUrst have the sheer balls to go after this game and change the set up for a more attacking emphasis. We've got f**k all to lose now. I want to see Stewart pretty quickly if Arnold or Monkhouse don't get their f***ing finger out after 10 minutes. Ditto Hoban who is starting wear a bit thin now. Forget anything that's happened in the match, team selection, passion, the referee etc.

Just one question to Paul Hurst.

So Paul after five years in charge, you're playing against the league leaders who are not a great side. Why is your primary attacking tactic to launch the ball wide to a 35 year old statue on the left and a centre half playing out of position on the right?

Five years and this is all he's got after all this time. FFS!! And some people back this guy up. He is just not good enough and definitely not getting the best out of this squad with his tactics and team selections.

Thank you to all our fans that travelled tonight. Hats off to every one of you.

What's the point in signing Stewart if you're not even going to play him in a game like this when you've got a geriatric left midfielder on who only looks half fit instead. Hurst's performance in the transfer and loan market since Christmas has ruined this season for us. That and his awful team selection and tactics.

We've been totally shown up as utterly second best, with several players failing to contribute anything at all. Hurst, more than anyone else, has been shown to be absolutely lacking in what it takes to be a winner. Pathetic. Again.

What's the point in signing Stewart if you're not even going to play him in a game like this when you've got a geriatric left midfielder on who only looks half fit instead. Hurst's performance in the transfer and loan market since Christmas has ruined this season for us. That and his awful team selection and tactics.

Got to agree , it was so simple for them .

Dog sh1t. Support PH but he got it very very wrong tonight. Hope he fΓΌcking learns for the play offs.

Cheltenham deserved it, still hate them.

The only good thing about this result is that we've killed off Cheltenham's play-off chances.
Posted by: chaos33, April 1, 2016, 9:40pm; Reply: 280
Sickened too. Stated with Hurst's comments about not believing before the match, and boy did it show, to a man. Shameful.

Secretly: really glad we won't play them at Wembley. Still angry, still drunk, still conference. intercourse this excrement,

Can't be arsed t go through the multitude of problems that we witnessed tonight so I'd like to apologise to Jordan Stewart for thinking he was joining a proper professional club and that he may somehow happen across some pitch action.

No Jordan, today and everyday is April the 1st under the weird, hapless and possibly mentally-breaking down Paul Hurst.

Weird, weird, WEIRD managing.

Only 4 points in the playoffs????? thats looking shakey for us now.
Surely we cant mes that up too?

Spineless weak as urine rubbish tonight from every single Town player.  Outplayed and outfought in every single department tonight.  The belly of our team is as soft as a newborn kitten.  You don't need to be a managerial genius to suss us out.  Spineless all over the park and yet we still try to knock the ball long at every single opportunity.

Fook me. Parslow is playing like Bobby Moore tonight.

How to win this league?  Just one skillful weak player allowed (set piece/free kick specialist).  Assemble a team of experienced workman like cloggers in midfield.  Have one or ideally two 6ft targetmen up front and kick your way out of this league.  Focus on organisation, fitness, set-pieces, gamesmanship and more fitness.

PH:  "Hey Jordan, I'm going to start you tonight.  Go win us the game"

JS:  "Nice one boss.  Let me at 'em!"

PH:  "APRIL FOOOL!  Now go put those bags on the bus"

Wouldn't be surprised. When was the last time we actually played cohesively and looked comfortably in control of a game? Yeah before Macclesfield we'd won a few on the bounce, but we'd not exactly been firing on all cylinders.

We are NOT good enough - plain and simple!

Fair play to Gary Johnson for his comments on the Wright stamp. Wish our manager was half as good as him.

That that sort of thing is not what you want to see in the game and he's going to have a word with Wright about it.

Its because he plays week in week out in his natural position central defence, not r/b l/b and midfield

January and February were dismal, depressing months due to some insipid signings and Hursts further decline into uninspiring and downright negative interviews, add in a smattering of ludicrous and uncalled for non-Chairman meddling and this is how it has all manifested itself...feels like the team has had a slow puncture since the turn of the year. Nothing Hurst can say will give me any sort of confidence in him anymore,

Stewart and Henderson are big standout candidates in this seasons list of GTFC Oddities but where on Earth is Straker???? What in the name of sanity are we doing signing THREE players on loan only to leave them out of the seasons proceedings completely?

My last post referred to why Parslow appears to be a good player but the Fishy put wrong quote in the box and has told me I cant edit it as I did not do the post  :X
But on another note- outplayed out reffed and out thought, hope Hurst is gone at the end of the season.

Luckily - I forgot this game was on tonight - but it looks like we lost again (so the pain is instant rather than prolonged).
Still - we can make the play offs and Grimsby management need to train / instil confidence in  the players we have, to win the important games from now on.
Looks like we do not know what the best team is again - after it being 'mucked about' so much.

I'd have laughed any other time, I'm a big Airplane! Fan. Too busy dealing with my own disaster movie though, a 90 minute horror, filmed live and shown on April 1st, I hung on hoping for a twist in the final reel.
Foolish me.

Lets be honest things are turning out quite bad and this was since the halifax game.

Slating the fans and calling them spoilt
Toto having a go at the fans and vice versa well allegedly
The tewwet from bogle

I seriously think he is losing the dressing room maybe not all the players like diz, pearson and macca...but i think some of the others are not happy.

I cant see us winning rhe trophy or getting promoted and i think the fans will turn on hurst putting pressure on ph.

Every Conference team gets a bonus of Β£10-20k when we play against them because of our away following - maybe they want us to stay down and keep paying their wages.  Conspiracy theory time!

Careful , I was shot down for saying the same thing .
