Tait back in at right back, Roberston in for Horwood. JPP back on the bench.

Bet Monkhouse & Hoban can't believe their luck.

Negativity to start the match thread, had this non stop for 3 days, give it a rest until after the game, its boring

Hurst should take previous performances into account when picking his starting line-up. It's clear from this starting line-up that he's got his favourites who will start every game when fit, regardless of form. Trying to stifle debate by crying "NEGATIVITY" is cheap and lazy. Commenting on the starting 11 on a message board isn't going to have any effect on the team's performance and the eventual result tonight.

Horse poo, clearly a very large majority of fans do not see why Monkhouse gets starts, not negative just bored of the same old steaming pile.
Give the new guys a chance, if they play poor then at least it will only match what they have replaced.

Totally agree. Can't work out what he sees sometimes. I want us to win as much as anybody else even those who think nobody is allowed to comment negatively on a team selection. I look at that line up and it just depresses me. Anyway, by all accounts Aldershot are sh1te, so fingers crossed for three points. I'll be cheering as loudly as anyone else when we score..

Jeez, he just commented on the starting line up. Why can't you give it a rest? How is it negativity!?!?

It's clear from that selection that some players will start regardless of form or fitness. That's all I'll say. If it's ok with you that is.

One tactical change (Tait in) , one through injury... in summary.

Listening to Hurst on Humberside earlier he mentioned  having watched the Chelt game back and didnt think there was an obvious gulf between the teams......that would explain why he has kept relatively an unchanged side then... :o

What do you know.... You dont see the players day in day out. Hurst does, its any excuse to have a go at certain players or the manager. Monkhouse scored, and yeah he was half fit but so flipping what. He's been picked. Get over it, its my opinion. Sorry it doesnt go with the constant crap we've had to put up with for the past 4 days

Slow start, 25 minutes-ish of bumbling around, survive early scare, concede slightly unfortunate goal....almost the Grimsby Town template until the 2nd went in.

Not sure where that leaves us....2nd half rollocking, all guns blazing, but when did we last come from 2-0 down?

I can not see that it could be anything else other than a dressing room issue. Favourite players, players who don't get a sniff, players who should be brought on as subs but they send on centre halves instead up front. Oh dear, oh dear, oh dear. This is basically the same team that ahd been doing so well up to Macclesfield and now the wheels have come off in spectacular fashion. We haven't gone from a very good team to a poor one overnight, something's wrong.

Had a laugh earlier reading the Shots forum, someone predicted 28  - 2  win for them, He perhaps won't be far off the mark with their score at this rate but don't know where our 2  are coming from. A pathetic performance sorry nonperformance.need to make changes now not on 70 mins.

Can't remember when we last played the same defence two games running or the same team for that matter. It all smacks of a manager who is desperately seeking answers to problems of his own making. He hasn't got the nous I'm afraid. At this stage of the season you should know what your best side is.

Dressing room hasn't been right since the turn of the year culminating in the Halifax debacle. Scrape a few wins, paper over the cracks, draws against poor teams and now three defeats where we can't string two passes together.

After what he did for Hartlepool, somebody get Ronnie Moore's number to Fenty quick. Everything's been stale for a long time. Fresh eyes, selections and tactics needed.

If you think we are sick of it imagine what the squad feels like..

Edit And Amond scores!

No change in what I think though..

You lucky lucky man.

Maybe after five years you can learn by your mistakes.

Thing is i think paul could be a much better manager if he wasnt so fvcking stubborn.

Time to admit your way just does not work sometimes and changing it does not mean you were wrong ! Let the shackles off sometimes.

What on Earth has happened to our defence over the past week? 8 goals conceded in the past 8 days, following 31 for the rest of the season combined. If we're going to get through the play-offs, that has to improve.

Four goals from 6 shots on target (according to BBC stats) is a pretty good return. Hope we can continue this ratio until the end of the season!

3 points in the end.

Glad Bogle took his chance.  Agree that he should have been given a long-run in the team to settle into this level of football.  And to develop a good partnership with Podge.

He could have made things easier for himself by having a more mature and professional attitude.  This would also have made it more difficult for Hurst to drop/rest him.  (Scoring more goals would also have helped here).

Just got back from a work night out with no Wi-fi and no 4 or even 3 G.  Came on here and saw a 27 page thread assumed an 8-0 defeat.  Not convincing by any stretch but I would have taken a 1 nil at the start of the game.  Clearly conflicting views but a wins a win (I make comment about the selection).

Now to make a comment about the selection: Our best team I think is Macca, Tait, Pearson, Gowling, A left back (no harm in sitting on the fence), A winger (Jennings or Monkey), Dis, Nolan, Arnold, Amond, Bogle.  That team can win us the play offs!
Posted by: immariner, April 5, 2016, 9:51pm; Reply: 293
Delighted with that, though worried about our leaky defence. I can't help but think how dim people sound when they say Hurst can't get us promoted- we lost the lottery of penalty kicks last year for the chance; a proverbial toss of the coin dictates we are not in League 2 right now. I'm sticking right behind this team (and the manager) until such point as our place in this league is confirmed for next season. Anything else is purely counter-productive.
Posted by: barralad, April 5, 2016, 9:54pm; Reply: 294
Couldn't go tonight due to family issues and missed the first half. Listened to the commentary and two things stood out:-

1. Amond and Bogle were back to their early season gelling

2. Town's defence were bloody awful.

If "going for it" is at the expense of defensive security then we might need heart medication before the end of the month

Bizarrely enough, our form over the past 10 games is now the same as both Cheltenham and FGR - 17 points apiece!

If only we could have managed a good run of form instead of an indifferent one...  ::)

Calm down ,   we've beaten a team that we should have done anyway . Questions should be asked as to why the first half was a disaster , tactics , team selection etc .   Tough home game on Saturday see what happens then .

Its all about the points at this stage. Got a bit of luck for a change and the play offs are a step closer. Started as a nightmare and ended as a dream result at the death. Onto the next game and lessons hopefully learned.

Anything has to be more inspired than the starting line up.

Farting about with strikers who can't score and wingers who can't run has been the hallmark of ridiculous team selections for months.

Lucky, lucky man.

I'll take tonight with a pinch of salt. At 14:45 on Saturday when that starting 11 comes out we'll truely see if Paul really has learnt his lesson. He got off the hook tonight, credit to the front players today for getting the game by the scruff of the neck and I'm delighted for Bogle.

Absolutely no credit for you though Paul, tonight has only gone to show what a limited manager you really are. I dread to think what a manager who would've encouraged the second half performance would've done for us, I fear this only proves that we've a good side who are held back by a shite manager.

Obviously not a convincing win but the manner of it might just bring the squad back together for a final go at it. A third defeat in a row and it would've felt increasingly bleak. I do get a lot of the frustrations but it is worth remembering that we really are still in with a shout of getting out of this league. Cheltenham are clearly the best team in the league and have the best manager but there's nobody else to fear. Must be odds on a Town vs Dover semi final now.

If Bogle and Arnold can join Podge and Nolan in getting a run of goals then that bodes well for the play offs.

The defence need to get back to their usual meanness though

Excellent - makes me smile - because unfortunately, that does appear to be right (my warped sense of humour). Hopefully, some bold selections, tactics  and motivation (FROM THE VERY START OF MATCHES) can ensure promotion now and reverse the trend.

He won't go with such an attacking line up from the start  next game as its not in his nature and he will be having kittens about conceding 8 in 3. Expect he will tighten things up again for the next game and back to the cautious approach. He's made more half time subs in the last few games than he has in 5 years. He will be hating it.

Stoked for Bogle and happy Stewart finally got a look in; resultant performance unlikely a coincidence.

I was there tonight.   Clearly less panic-inducing to be there in reality than to listening on the radio judging from this hysterical thread.

Everyone wants a "lucky manager".   You should be pleased!  Especially one who had the wit, foresight and contacts to identify, recruit and select those self-same players that you've just bigged-up Badger.

Yes mate ecstatic.

Being top scorer in the league below last season probably means he wasnt that hard to identify in the first place...

Is that 15 goals for bogle this season so far ? Not bad for a lad who finds himself in and out the team every five minutes when players like monkhouse just have to turn up to get a game ?
