After few early chances in the opening half hour Morecambe had a double chance to score. First Barnes saved at the feet of Taylor, then Stanley hit the post.

Morecambe thereafter dominated the rest of first half, with Taylor looking the dangerman and it was no surpise when the Shrimpers took the lead when Taylor scored with a free header in the final seconds of normal time.

Early in the second half new signing crashed a half volley against the bar on the turn.

A howler by Phil Barnes gifted Morecambe a second when he failed to make contact with the ball and Taylor ran on to put the ball into the net.

Stockdale gave Town a lifeline with an 87th minute goal which dropped to him on 5 yards out.

Town pressed for an equaliser but there was not enough Town and they now have to concentrate on the league.
