Grimsby named an unchanged side.

Proudlock and Jarman both had early chances for Town and then the game degenerated into a scrappy afair.

In first half injury time a shot by Proudlock bounced back off the post.

The game ended goalless at half time.

Early in the second half Town stepped up a gear and Widdowson gave Town the lead on 56 with a powerful mazy run into the penalty area, beating several defenders, and blasting it into the top corner.

With 17 minutes to go Grimsby were given a penalty after a foul on the edge of the box and Proudlock stepped up to double Town's lead.

Peter Bore came on for Jarman for the last 15 minutes.

Sinclair and Proudlock combined to create an excellent goal and put Town 3-0 up on 84.

Akpro rounded off a great passage of play but could not beat the 'keeper in a one on one.
