Clarke and Jarman returned for Town.

After 5 mins Forbes passed to Proudlock who shot narrowly over from 30 yards.

Darlington has a good chance on 22 minutes when Bennett and then Atkinson cleared a shot off the line.

On 35 Darlington's Kennedy hit the top of the bar with a cross-shot.

The game continued to be very scrappy.

With the score still 0-0 and 20 minutes to go Grimsby brought on 3 substitutes.

With 10 minutes to go Carlton dragged a shot wide with an open goal to aim at.

On 86 minutes Ravenhill crossed for substitute Main who nodded it in to give the Quakers a deserved lead.
