Grimsby started brightly and looked threatening, especially from set pieces where Sweeney forced a good save from Roche on 25 minutes.

The first half ended 0-0 with neither side having created many chances.

Early in the second half Proudlock came close to scoring when the ball went under the keeper's body and off his heel for a corner.

Paul Mullin scored against the run of play when Morecambe played a ball from a short corner into his path.

Town levelled when Sweeney scored with a spectacular volley from 25 yards into the top corner.

Town could not go on and get a winner, but were by far the better side over the 90 minutes.
