Conlon was rested in favour of Akpro. Bore moved back to right back. Featherstone started on the right wing.
Town had the best of the early stages with Featherstone having a good shot saved.
Bury had two good chances on the half hour park but Jones and Rowe missed their chances, Rowe hitting the post with his.
The first half finished 0-0 with both teams having had their chances.
Grimsby finally broke the deadlock midway through the second half. Proudlock played Akpro through and he stepped round the 'keeper and slotted it in.
Akpro had a good chance to add a second when set up by Sweeney but the 'keeper made a good save.
