Cambridge has the better of early play, but after 15 minutes the ref seemed to give a penalty when Elding was brought down by the 'keeper. However the lineseman persuaded the ref to change his man and he awarded a dropped ball on the penalty spot.
Shortly afterwards McKeown made a good side to deny Hughes, who had tried to curl it around the Town 'keeper.
Town took the lead against the run of play when Hearn made a run to the byeline and pulled it back to Elding who drilled it in low through a crowd players.
Town clipped the bar when Silk crossed to Artus whose header shaved the woodwork.
Town had the better of the second half until the last few minutes when Cambridge came into it more.
The Mariners withstood some intense late pressure to win their fifth game on the spot and complete the double over Cambridge.
