Both teams struck the woodwork in the opening half hour.

For the last 15 minutes of the first half Morecambe laid seige to Town's goal and had Phil Barnes to thank for keeping them in the game.

After the break Morecambe continued to dominate and they appeared to have scored the opener on 67, but the goal was disallowed for offside.

Within a minute Town broke and the ball came off Gary Jones's foot to Paul Bolland, who struck the ball into the net.

Town rode their luck but clung on to record a battling victory with Phil Barnes outstanding in Town's goal.
