Just In: FT: Grimsby 2 York 3

By: Rob Sedgwick
Date: 13/03/2012 19:44

Hearn was rested meaning Soares could play as well as Winn. Elding operated as a solitary striker.

Elding had an early header which the 'keeper tipped over for a corner.

The Town striker had a second chance soon after when he tried to lob the 'keeper but it was just too high.

York then had a great chance but Blair miscued when in a strong position on the fat post.

A mistake by Townsend gifted a chance to Reed, who took the opportunity slotting it through McKeown's legs.

On 27 a terrific turn and shot by Winn saw his volley tripped away from a corner.

Another goalmouth scramble saw York almost score but McKeown denied them and then Town broke and Coulson almost scored as the match swung from one end to the other.

McLaughlin was played through in a great opporunity to put York 2-0 up. McKeown spread himself way to deny McLaughlin, who skied the rebound over the goal.

York went in at half time deservedly leading 1-0.

York scored almost straight from the restart. McKeown didn't hang on to a headed shoot and York reacted quickest through Smith to knock the rebound in.

Wood came on to replace Thanoj in midfield, and was almost immediately injured.

Then York almost added a third but the ball was cleared after another scramble.

With Town being totally outclassed in all areas Winn picked out the run of Elding who guided the ball past the 'keeper to give Grimsby a lifeline.

With 9 minutes left Town amazingly draw the game level when Coulson scored with another headed goal.

Just when it looked like Town might get at least a point, Fyfield won the ball in injury time and ran half the length of the pitch to blast it in.
